For anyone here who lives on their own, how long do you think it took for you to get use to living by yourself, or was it something that never bothered you at all?

It never really bothered me, but I've always been fairly solitary and in need of my own space. I was considering getting a roommate a few months ago, but I decided to start going out and seeing my friends more instead. Problem solved.

Get a dog or some kind of pet, you could dress them up and talk to them and pretend they are a regular person.

Never bothered me. I don't mind living alone or with roommates.

I just started living alone (full-time?) last September, and I've always lived in smaller towns. But I moved to the city, and I would wake up every time I heard something for a while. I didn't have a problem living alone, and I highly enjoy it, but there was some adjustment. In fact, I still keep notable weapons within reach of my bed, :o

Well, walking around naked was a plus.

Also, I had my cat.

Lastly, when you have a gf who spends the night, it's fine.

Same here, I've done both.

The advantages to living alone... you can do weird and crazy stuff at any time of the day or night and no one comments on it (as long as you keep the volume low enough that the neighbours don't hear). You can have your friends over any time you want for as long as you want. You can take off on a moments notice and come back when you feel like it.

When I got lonely, I knew it was time to call up my friends and hit the clubs.

Bingo! You can act tired when it's time to kick them out  I really enjoyed having roomates (half the time??) throughout the college years, but it's really good to experience the alone time on your own after that! For me anyways :word:

y'know, no matter where I lived, I never felt the need to keep weapons near my bed... Mind you I did often find the need to buy roach repellent when I lived in apartment buildings.

A few things you should have, a good flash light, a good radio (both with working batteries), candles and a lighter... and KNOW where they all are in the dark. The number of times I had to deal with power outages... well, thankfully I always have my flashlight handy to this day.

I do find that when I'm alone I miss the "noise" factor. I grew up in a house with 2 brothers and 3 sisters... When the quiet gets too bothersome I put on the radio / cd player and start dancing. Also, at night, I would often leave music playing to put me to sleep.

I've lived alone and with a roommate(s) and both have their pluses and minuses. When I lived on my own it could get extremely boring at times, particularly when my friends were busy. On the other hand, when I lived with roommates they could get annoying at times and there's also the lack of privacy issue. But either way, overall most of the time I don't mind living alone or with roommates.

Yeah, but you never know when you're going to need a ninja sword at a moment's notice! :cwink:

"i'm a loner, dottie. a rebel."

"There's a lot of things about me that you don't know anything about, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand."

:word:

Living alone sounds great but what do you do when the boogie man comes? :ninja:

I prefer living on my own as opposed to roommates. I need that quiet time. I can't be around somebody 24/7. I had a sister to live with along with the parents for about 21 years, tried the roommate thing for a couple years, nah. I'm a grown ass man now..no more roomies until I get a serious relationship going with a girl. And even then....:cmad: If you're cool with living with two or three other people for a long period of time, go right ahead. There's going to be a time when you need the entire place to yourself for some reason and you wont' be able to get it.

I lived on my own for about 11 months at one point; it was cool at first, but it quickly got worse because of the loneliness factor. By the second month, I was waking up at 6PM, satying up till 9 or 10 in the mornng, passing out from sheer exhaustion, and eating the same type of frozen pizza every day.

The freedom can be cool, but when you have no dates, no car or license, and very few offline friends...well, you get the idea. :(
