Now The Wrap creator is talking crap to Mangold defending El. Mangold keep slaying!!!

I personally think it is an almost obsessive bit of brand loyalty. The fact that Marvel isn't personally making them, and Fox is doing it out of a license, creates a sense of it being a "cheat" to some fans.

But if you just view them all as movies, yes, Fox has made three of the best five superhero movies in the last five years. Of course, that is my opinion, but it takes a real bias to ignore the quality of First Class, DOFP, Deadpool, and Logan to me. Even The Wolverine is better than any DCEU film and a number of MCU entries.

I'm not saying you have to like them better than MCU or DCEU (though you should in the latter's case). Just the way folks write them off in fan communities always seems strange.

It's studio wars.which is crazy.consider this it's fox who saw back in early 1990's the poential for X-men.they helped revive gene.and X-Men and spider-man at sony helped marvel studios be possable.

Fox after making 2 bad films-last stand and origins-self corrected on their
own starting with first class.

Myself and other fans of X-Men films don't go around hoping MCU films
suffer a disappointment. The GA isn't going to listen to boycat nonesense.
even apocalypse made 545 million WW.Logan is poised to do 80 Million
domesticly this weekend and could led to 160 million domestic gross beating both First class and apocalypse.

X-Men films are a lot more stable than say the DCEu which changes plans weekly.fox hadn't changed it's plans since may.Fox after deadpool success didn't presure mangold to make logan like deadpool.

DIsney didn't even buy marvel till 2010.they aren't entitled to X-Men.

I haven't seen logan yet.plan to tomorrow but out of previous 9 films in series including deadpool i have liked overall 7 out of 9 though not all at same level.Fact remaing fox is one making films and they are mostly successful.hell some people not here actully liked last stand and origins.
If i could go without hearing give X-Men to disney talk i would be very happy.

As usual spot on DA Crowe, I like the Marvel movies es but the extreme fanboy is that goes with them annoys me to no end.

Personally though for me the MCU hasn't made anything as good as DOFP or Logan. Or X2 for that matter.

extreme fans of MCU can turn off fans of X-men films to MCU.some of them
said even lesser MCU film is better than any of the X-Men films.

I made no secret of fact i didn't like iron man 3 but i didn't like last stand
eather.those 2 films and Spider-man 3 fill my list of most disappointing CB films.I liked first iron man,the captain america trilogy-despite issues with MCU spider-man and the incredible hulk.kind of liked GOTG after i listened to other X-Men film fans and ignored my feelings on the MCU extreme fans.

consider this if your marvel fan of comics then X-Men adds to them getting films out.who really cares if it's all part of same contunity or not.and chances are 4 films including logan will get better reviews than DC's films inless they improved for WW and JL:cwink:

Eh Maybe is currently getting dragged by Mangold on twitter. I think we just witnessed the death of a career.

I thought going to The Wrap was supposed to make him better? Just seems like he is the same.

Nice to see Mangold calling out those hacks. Wish more directors would do the same

Seems like there are some leftovers from Cliff Martinez in the score.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Even the director thinks El Mayimbe's a hack!

LOL I love how he writes "sad!" just like Mr. Alternative Facts President.

Now a lot of folks say that Logan could be in contention for some sort of Oscar based on performances. Obviously since the Oscars just happened, it's way too early for next year's.

Based on that, do you think that Fox will do what Warner Bros did with The Dark Knight and re-release Logan around Oscar season in order to shore up interest from the Academy?

Thoughts on Mangold's comments?

I read this the other day and have been looking for it since, to show to someone. It's actually something I've been thinking about for a while. It's hard enough to maintain consistency, good or bad, in a trilogy let alone a franchise that expands beyond that. I'd love for a studio to choose to approach their comic book characters as one-shots, not just a universe. Having the freedom to change the character, the tone, the style and the surrounding "universe" from film to film would breathe life into these characters. I love Logan, it's R-rating finally allows Wolverine to be the Wolverine. Saying that, it would be really cool to have a younger Wolverine be part of a PG-13 action-adventure X-Men movie in 2-3 years without a studio worrying about how it has to relate to the current universe/franchise, or separate itself from this iteration of the character sufficiently for audiences to get it. I think Hugh Jackman has been great as Wolverine, though in my mind, there's no reason someone else couldn't excel as a different iteration of that character. I'd love to see Logan tear it up in a hard-R action film, a fully committed portrayal of Wolverine in his prime. Maybe something based on/adapted from Weapon-X. I'd also love to see him and Deadpool shoot the breeze in a more relaxed, comedy-laden story, or he and the X-Men in more traditional action-adventure mode. I see no reason why all three of these characters need to be the same Wolverine, and take place in the same universe. Give me Guillermo Del Toro's Batman in Arkham Asylum AND Joseph Kosinski's Batman in Batman Beyond, so to speak. Expand the confines of what's possible and let good directors/writers leave their mark on these characters, the same way artists/writers do.

Given how Deadpool got some awards traction for doing much less critically, I think Fox will put its weight behind Logan when the time comes.

I'd love to see it get some well-deserved awards love, but the Oscars are awhile off and their record on recognizing superhero movies isn't great, so I don't have my hopes up. Would be nice, though.

If Hugh's next film Greatest Showman, which is out in December, turns out to be a big awards contender, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a nomination (kind of like how RDJ was nominated for Tropic Thunder the year the first Iron Man came out).

Would love to see that whole crew get some nominations.

The sword they showed on the wall; was that the sword he used in The Wolverine?

Oh please. Now he's really reaching.

Pathetic. Using the race card as a last resort attempt at reclaiming the little credibility he's managed to scrape together in his "career" field.

Seeing LOGAN after I get off of work. I hope it lives up to all the word of mouth around here.

The movie was outstanding.
Some of the deaths were funny like blowing off Rice's neck with a gun mid speech and the mutant children swarming Pierce.

Xavier's tremors were cool too.
Something we've never seen in an X-Men movie.

I thought we had kinda seen them before, when Xavier
froze everyone at the museum in X2. He's just lost full control of that ability now.

I would have liked them a bit more 'powerful' in some way. Like
have blood (yeah more blood!) start coming out of the people's ears the longer it goes. The one at the casino went on for quite a long time but it seemed everyone was going to be fine afterwards.

I did really like them though, it was very cool and scary how he's lost full control of such a powerful ability.

I thought the film was absolutely outstanding. What a fantastic way for Jackman to sign off.

One question

how do we think the Apocalypse Post Credits scene fits in here? In that, we see Essex Corps taking Weapon X blood sample. Fair enough, setting up clones and Mr Sinister no?

But this film is years later, no mention of Essex Corps or Mr Sinister and yet Rice has created the clones of Wolverine?

Screw Kinberg's pandering.
Make Mangold the spokesperson for how Fox approaches cbm's.[/CENTER]

Oddly this isn't far different to what kinberg has been saying already in his recent interviews about how they are making these movies.

Just got back from Logan. Maybe it's the lack of sleep. Maybe it's seeing the character, comic and live action, for so long. Maybe it's because it's truly one of the greatest, most emotional, raw and true to the character super hero movies ever made... but I am in pieces right now.
