Wachowski's "Speed Racer" Ready

The Wachowski siblings proposed live-action adaptation of Japanese anime classic "Speed Racer" is now on the starting line awaiting the greenlight at Warner Bros. reports Production Weekly.

The production has set up shop on the Burbank lot, taking over the offices that were home to Bryan Singer's now defunct "Logan's Run" remake. The move comes two years after the film was first proposed by actor Vince Vaughn who confirmed last month he still remains committed to the project.

The film would see Vaughn play Racer X, the long-lost but protective brother of the title character who is a young driver that travels from race to race with his family.

Since we have a (now) 36 year old playing Racer-X I hope we don't get a late 20-something playing Speed Racer. I'm looking at you Justin Long, stay away.

I think he's just old enough to drive (16-ish). I know it doesn't fit the whole convention of the law and professional racing rules and what not but that's how he and his peers on the show were portrayed.

the wachowski's seem like a really odd choice for this... i mean, speed racer was always kind of tongue in cheek, wasn't it? they don't seem like the comedy type. but then again, their commentary on the path of neo game towards the end was pretty funny.

oh well, if nothing else we'll get a really nice looking movie with good special fx and action scenes.

ew... what sucks is that that seems like someone the studio would go for, too. i really don't like him anymore since he started doing those damn snobby mac commercials.

I'm actually excited about this film. I loved the cartoon, although I'm curious to see if the Wachowski's take a more dramatic approach, or turn it into a comedy. Man, I hope it's the first.
