Superman Returns Lois' sleeping with Supes

Oh I agree completely and argued as much prior to the release of the movie and was told to wait and see the movie before judging it yet my complaints were similar to what you just posted.... and they ended up being all to true.

Well...I am one to say "wait until it is seen" before judging. I always hear things good and bad about movies while they are in production...but you can't make a true judgement of their worth until you see them.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only who thinks the way the movie set up the relationship between Superman and Lois didn't really fit in with what came before and didn't do a great job explaining. I thought the vague sequel thing would be hard to pull and when we fill in the blanks using the depowered parts of SII Singer states in an interview we are wrong. Like I said in my other post we need some kind of a program or diagram to figure out what applies. This could tarnish the idea of Superman more than Lois. He can't have a serious relationship without telling Lois he is Clark, he wouldn't be able to share anything with her (where and how he grew up, parents, plans for the future, favorite things). Lois would really be an idiot if she couldn't figure out it was Clark. When I was growing up the love triangle was Clark-Lois-Superman, now we have Richard I guess it is a Love Square now. Like I said earlier that is why for me SR was just "Good" and not "Great".

I always considered that a flaw in the original Reeve films....I thought the sleeping with Lois and the mindwipe kiss were wrong for the character and shouldn't have been in the film to begin with.

I agree, I hated those parts the most.

Maybe they should have just remade part two and followed off part one. seriously. Part two was good bad also bad at the same time. it had the biggest flaws like the magic that superman learned. All disappearing and capturing people with the \S/ was foolish and I hated it when I was a kid then and I hate it now. They shoulda just whiped all that out and re did it. Well it's too late and there is no way to save the series unless the kid dies and the whole world has amnesia and forgets that it ever came out.

In the "Look Up In The Sky" documentary Margot Kidder said she wishes she would of got a case of the prudes when it came to the FOS scene back when they were filming.

Good for her, atleast she knew that that was extremely out of character.

Singer said in an interview (I can't remember which one, but I remember reading it) that the mindwipe kiss only erased her knowledge of Clark being Superman, not her knowledge of her relationship with Superman. He interpreted it as her still knowing she was in love with Superman and having slept with him.

This is probably why he wants to use that term "vague sequel"- he chose to interpret the mindwipe kiss that way to fit in his new version.

I agree that this pick and choose method can't be deciphered through the movie and has to be explained by him in an interview. It also raises questions of how she can remember Superman yet not know the details of it- including how she came to be with him- i.e. discovering Clark's real identity. That's why the "vague" thing comes into it, I guess.

But that's one of the reasons the movie doesn't work for me.

If you are going to use previous movies as the base to expand a new one on....the viewer shouldn't have to have to do research to find out which specific parts of the previous movie he is going to use as fact and which parts he is going to ignore.

If they are being told this is a continuation of "Superman the Movie"....then it should be a continuation of "Superman the WHOLE movie"...not a continuation of "Parts of Superman the Movie"...and leave it up to us to guess which parts that is.
