I'm a fan of the vampire sub-genre, and I despise the romantic-type vampires of Twilight, and other similar novels. Can anyone suggest any good recent vampire novels?

You may enjoy the Cirque Du Freak series. There is little to no romance in those books.

I hear Let the Right One In is supposed to be good and they made a movie about it.

It isn't good. It's brilliant.

See also: 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King

See also: Bram Stoker's Dracula by err... Bram Stoker

I've read three that are right up your alley: 13 Bullets, 99 Coffins, and Vampire Zero all by David Wellington.

The first book was originally released as an online serial novel

You might also try Children of the Night by Dan Simmons. Haven't read it myself, but other books by Simmons have been good, whether he's writing horror, science fiction or something else

And maybe you can find something interesting on this site: http://www.lovevampires.com/index.htm

I recommend Salem's Lot as well, it's one of my favorites.

Interview With the Vampire is a good one too.

Interview is good, but it's part of the style of vampire books he's not into

Im not much of a book reader(but i LOVE vampires) but i really do want to read that series.

I lvoe anything with vamps, yes, even Twilight(that is one of the only books i actually finished)

Me too! I'll read anything dealing with vampires, heck the supernatural in general.

The Cirque Du Freak series was the first that really got me into reading in general. I'd strongly recommend them if you are into vampires and such.

And yeah I enjoyed Twilight too.

I have to say the Vampire Chronicles is perfect. Although in my opinion, The Vampire Lestat is the perfect book for which is looking for. It's definitely not romantic in the sense, in fact, it's one of the more emotional, epic, and darkest books that I've ever read.

I read the first 50 pages of Bram Stroker's Dracula when I was hanging out at Barnes & Noble for a while...It was very very good. (Im actually planning on picking it up or buying it after I finish a few books on my list first)

Cirque du freak series is great. I'd defiantly recommend it.

Don't bother with Darren Shan's Demonata series though, they just get terrible after the fourth one.

I've read the first five. The fifth one was meh. :(

Can't believe no one has mentioned I Am Legend. Richard Matheson's 1954 tale is one of my personal favorite vampire stories. Don't let any pre-convinced notions concerning the movie version with Will Smith fool you. The book is nothing like it.

It's a fairly short read, but I guarantee you that you will finish it in one sitting. Very captivating and intimate. The depiction of vampires is very detailed and brutal, not your typical romancing vampire bull ****.

OMG I totally forgot that one. Great ****ing book!!! That movie was a piece of **** in comparison. Soooo terrible

Go for the classics and buy a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

L.J Smith's Night World series is good, even though they include witches, shapeshifters, werewolves and dragons.

The Necroscope Series by Brian Lumley, it has a totally original take on vampires.

Noble V Greylancer by Hideyuki Kikuchi is pretty cool in it's concept: distant post-apocalyptic earth that's ruled over by Vampire nobility, who find their rule threatened by shape-shifting alien invaders.

It's interesting in how it shows the alien heavy science when going up against supernatural magic that they can't even comprehend.
