This epic of mythological epicness *ahem* is almost ten years old starting with the first movie.

With all the cool movies since then, do you guys still watch it occasionally?

DOES ANYONE HAVE IT ON BLU-RAY? I'd like to know if it contains the extended version, theatrical, or both.

I watched all three a few months back and still love them.

As for the Blu-ray version, it's only the theatrical versions. I'm still waiting to upgrade from DVD if they ever release the Extended.

I need to rewatch the first one again. It's my favorite of the series.

I refuse to buy the Blu-Rays until the Extended Editions. They're not getting me to buy two copies of each movie. Not again.

It's been a few months since I watched the extended editions last.

As for the movies themselves:

FoTR and TTT age like fine wine.

RoTK not so much.

I love them to bits to this day. If anything they've gotten better with age.

I haven't watched any of the films since I saw them opening day in theaters. Something about 3-hour long epics that keep me from watching them again. They undeniably stay with me, but I just can't bear repeat viewings unless it's several years later.

I'll definitely go for the encore with the inevitable Blu-Ray extended editions.

Good ol Lord of the Rings. My best friend and I would watch at least one movie every night and then return to High School and quote lines all day!

I think looking back on Lord of the Rings, the greatest shame about it's legacy is that no other fantasy film really compares. Most of them have been truly dreadful and aimed at children so to say they compare at all is embarrassing. Oh well.

There is only one movie trilogy and that is the Porky's trilogy.

I have the extended editions and still watch them every couple of months. I've seen them so many times at this point that I know them by heart, so a lot of times I just put them in for background noise while I'm doing other stuff.

LOVE 'em. Can't believe it's been nearly ten years.

There are only certain movies that totally blow me away after I come out of the theater and I could name them all on one hand. The first Star Wars movie would be one, Jurrasic Park was another (mainly for the look of the dinosaurs), and Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring, would be the third.

Watching the Epilogue at the beginning of Fellowship, it pretty much blew away what Lucas tried to do with his CGI effects in the Star Wars prequels. I rarely cried at movies, but I was practically bawling when Boromir died. Sean Bean did a fantastic job in that roll. I don't think there will ever be another series like that. I wouldn't even lift the Hobbit to that expectation, because the Hobbit is a very different book, although I can't wait to see it.

The whole series was excellent, but I have a special place in my heart for Fellowship because rarely does a movie totally blow away my expectations 1000 fold like it did. Not that the other movies were bad, but after seeing Fellowship I knew what the others were capable of, and I already knew the story.

I just got The Return of the King on Blu-ray for Christmas. Of all the theatrical cuts ROTK is better than the Extended Edition. I will be holding out for the Two Towers and The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Editions.

Personally the Return of the King was the epitome of an epic up to that point. The Fellowship of the Ring is perfect, I didn't like it at first, but after watching it a few times I finally saw how amazing it is. The Two Towers is great too. The time and money and hard work and love that went into these movies just blew my mind!!!

I recently got back into seeing these films again. They've been airing quite a bit on tv. Fellowship has actually been showing on Starz all month. It felt like I was watching it for the first time. Still epic after all these years. Of course I had to watch the others. Haven't had time to watch ROTK but I did see Two Towers again. Man that ending with shot of Mordor and Gollum's Song playing gives me chills every time. Such a dark and ominous way to end a film knowing what lies ahead.

I plan on buying the Complete Trilogy on Blu-ray soon. I refused to buy the Extended DVD versions. I'll probably wait on the Blu-ray for those too.

just saw the last 2 last week, got the dvds for $2 apiece on black friday

They still hold up just as well as they did then for the most part. Though not perfect, what Jackson and team were able to do really does deserve all the praise its given. They are modern classics.

haha...same here man

i watched Return of the King last nite on TNT. awesomely epic movie :word:

I can't believe its been ten years!:wow:

I have all three Extended Editions on DVD. To this day I have never been able to to a one day marathon. Has anyone successfully attempted one?

I rank the series as ROTK>FOTR>TTT. I agree that ROTK was epic to a point. My biggest gripe is that the Witch-King...nothing really happened. He kind of crapped out. But that was about what happened in the novel, so its no fault of Jackson's. Likewise I missed the Scourging of the Shire. I think it could've added another layer of emotion to the film.

Whole trilogy is awesome, but Two Towers is the most epic and memorable for me.

I have never watched the extended editions :(

I'm holding out on the blu-rays like most people and waiting for the extended editions

I always rewatch these around Christmas. Probably because they were all released around that time and so were the Extended edition DVDs, so by the time it was all "over" four years of watching LOTR around Christmas time had already passed. Seemed reasonable to just keep going.

This all of course means I just recently rewatched all of the movies.

As for the Blu-Rays, like some others here, I'm waiting for the Extended Editions.

For me its the oposite. Not that Fellowship and Towers hasnt aged, but I Return is the one that has improved to me the most of the 3.
