Well, I sort of take it as a little of The Greatest American Hero, a sort of comedic superhero.

The Greatest American Hero is also such an underrated show.....I recall a few years ago, Disney was developing the show for the big screen.

I was just talking to my buddy Ed about GAH today. I think that with CBMs being all the rage that something that is a loving satire/parody as GREATEST AMERICAN HERO was has loads of potential. The key is clever writing and getting the right people to play the Katt, Culp and Seleca parts. Also, not to go too crazy with the comedy elements, actually. It can be light in tone but have some actual stakes while still having fun with the tropes and cliches of super hero movies. Number one on my list? Have Chris Pratt play the lead, Liam Neeson in the Culp role and Colby Smulders in the Seleca role. BOOM. Give me my money Disney!!

Wasn't it a torpedo bomber??

That's what he was supposed to be flying in the scene....but they needed a shot of a plane crashing on the deck of a carrier....and used footage of one of the first jets that crashed on a carrier in the movie (during WWII.....only the Germans had working combat jets, and that was only at the end of the war).

From a modern standpoint it really is amazing how much stock footage was used back in the day for even big budget Hollywood films.

You know who I always thought was a good Hinkley/Katt?? Owen Wilson, although he lacks the curly locks of hair. LOL

I could see it, but that would be Hinkley as a sort of stoner super hero. :woot:

While I personally like the movie MIDWAY, almost all the action footage was real combat film from WWII or footage from older movies. Even the opening credit sequence is from THIRTY SECONDS OVER TOKYO.

I think they also used footage from Tora,Tora,Tora, if I'm not mistaken.

Listening to the soundtrack...its so good. :hrt: I've forgotten how good it was back in the day especially in the movie itself.

Who knows, perhaps in this case, they should look for an unknown actor.

Hmm... Maybe a they could pull a Hemmsworth and get someone the audience isn't already familiar with, but being that it would have strong comedic elements in it, they probably would go with an actor that has proven he has the chops to pull that off.

I'm forgetting... Does THE LONGEST DAY have lots of stock footage?

Yep, for scenes of the Japanese attacking Midway Island (the battle scenes for Tora Tora Tora are excellent and have been used in dozens of movies and TV shows since).....the scene of Tom Selleck being strafed is one of the few action scenes made for the movie.

No, it actually has very little. One of the things it was known for (besides the large star cast) was that they recreated most of the battles.

Yeah, I thought so. There's a freaking amazing WWII film. I loved the shots of just going over the battle from the air. The age well before CGI. That was a massive undertaking on the part of Zanuck. It's a long film, but of the more "realistic" WWII films of the immediate post war era it's right up there with BATTLEGROUND as a favorite of mine.

The scene in TLD of the French assaulting the Nazi held casino is a masterfully coordinated action scene.....a long one take scene shot from the air as a hundred soldiers converge from different locations to take on that building. A hundred guys having to hit their marks with bombs and bullet hits going off all around them and crossing bridges without the director and his crew standing in front of them telling them what to do. Now days it would be an obvious CGI scene with hundreds of quick cuts so the kids don't get bored and start texting.

Looking at some spartan armor pieces...trying to describe the outfit this character of mine wears in my story... i want him to wear a mesh of the traditional armor and the one from 300 :p

Speaking of older movies, do you guys think I'd offend people, or that they'd get the joke, if I started making Deliverance references in one of my stories?

Dr Alberts is staying at his home in rural Georgia." Oh god, I could hear the banjos already. He continued, oblivious to my internal ramblings about banjos and pigs.

Nevermind...I wrote it in a way that I could get away from calling it whatever. lol...

How would you describe a man with spartan armor? Anyone?

As a Master who is Chief of the human resistance against the Covenant on several Halo shaped worlds that are intended to destroy the universe.

DoD, you're not writing PWP's are you?
