The ascendancy of so many things "nerds/fanboys" in the pop culture the last twenty years has caused such a shift I think. It used to be that we (and excuse the presumption, I am 40, and I remember learning as a Padwan from the dudes/dudettes who were older than I back then) in the fanboy/fangirl set were proud to be the folk that liked something regardless of it's popularity in the wider culture. Cancelled show nobody liked? "Dude that was my jam!" Forgotten piece of nostalgia that everyone else has moved on from? "I know everyone else thinks this is lame now but it will always be cool to me." Niche piece of entertainment nobody knows about? "I know people have zero idea who or what this is on the T-shirt I'm wearing but I just want to let my freak flag fly, and if somebody asks maybe I can get them into too."

But now... I don't know... seems like people want the whole world to validate what they like. I am not saying to eat what ever gets thrown your way if you really have issues with it. But the validation of critics and the wider audience seems to matter a whole lot more these days than it used to. I get it to a certain degree. Stuff we like to see usually takes a big budget and big marketing to create. The stakes have risen with expectations of billion dollar box office and mass audience and critical acceptance yadda yadda... But it also seems there is a herd mentality in the fan population these days and it's one with little room for gray or nuance.

I don't like to talk politics, but sweet lawd.

It still boggles my mind how these republicans feel they are helping the nation. No souls. I'm still hoping Trump is a one term president, WE as a nation have to take the mutha out of that seat next time, just dont get pant wearing Hilary again.

The world desperately needs a reboot.

Maybe the world was already rebooted, but we just don't remember because Dr. M was messing with our ****. Hence all the wack happenings these last 2 years.

Somehow the alternate reality has become our reality. What the sh*!

I wonder how many of us would meet in a world reboot.

I suppose it depends on whether we'd still be nerds in this rebooted timeline? Maybe I'll come back a car guy. I drive a Prius so it'd be a radical change.

I might be a rich orthopediatrician.

If its a bizarro world I would be a poor ugly guy with no luck with the ladies :)

Get ready you fools.

Wasn't there a rumor that the sequel to the Dark Knight would be about the Joker's trial?

Because no matter what, some things always stay the same through the multiverse....??

:o

IIRC, Nolan didn't planned anything for the third Batman film. He intended Batman Begins to be a stand-alone, and it took WB to convince him to come back for the sequel. TDK was also intended to be a stand alone in some way, and he didn't plan to come back for the third film either. IIRC, he only came back after he & Goyer developed the story (and I believe that it was during this period that Goyer wrote the beginning of draft for MOS). So the Joker's return probably not intended and probably only added on later.

That was David Goyer who after Batman Begins drafted an outline for two films involving the Joker --one with the Joker causing chaos in Gotham and the other with Harvey Dent prosecuting the Joker. IIRC, Dent's Two-Face was supposed to be in the third film. These outlines probably ended up in TDK.

TBH I think Nolan always had a rough idea of what he wants to do while doing Batman, he just tells the press that he has absolutely no plans after each film.

He might not have the whole series sketched out, but his cast has 3-picture deals and it's the freaking Batman!

He had the Joker card in BB, Bat's fate hanging in TDK...

IMHO.

All these filmmakers and studio execs should take note of that. Stop setting themselves up for bad press down the road.

I echo Fallen's sentiments. Terminator 2 back in theaters, bebbeh.

:argh:

In an alternate universe youre still using that godawful signature after each post. :o

Nolan was mostly known for, and is still a strong proponent of stand-alone film. Nolan probably had some story ideas for Batman films but he was just one half of the brainchild behind it, the other half was David Goyer. Despite what many said about the latter, it was essentially a partnership between Nolan & Goyer that resulted in Batman Begins and the development of TDK along with brother John.

WB would have made a sequel with the same cast even if Nolan had not been convinced to return.

Do not mock a man's signature, io9. It is his most prized possession right after his Jurassic Park collection.

I should know. :o

Breh, it was a literal signature though. Like he went and manually wrote "-Polux" after every post. It was sorta admirable to me though, the persistence I mean.

All love though, Polux.
