Lounge of Justice - Part 90

Ben potentially writing/directing his own Batman movies was the driving force behind my excitement for him being cast in 2013. I'll never forget pals of mine ragging on me for trying to win them over with that. "Guys he directed The Town and Gone Baby, Gone!!"

I'll never get over him not getting around to that. But he's in a better place because of it now, so.... Oh well.

I am super excited for Matt Reeves Batman.

But I think people have kinda forgotten, just how good a director Ben Affleck is. I think his Batman movie could have been something special.
Matt Reeves is better though, imo. Affleck has too much vanity tied up in his directing to me. I'm 100% convinced Argo and The Town BOTH would've been better films if he'd cast someone other than himself as the lead. That's why Gone Baby Gone remains his best film, imo. The less said about Live By Night, the better.

That said, I think he could've made a good Batman film. But if you asked me who I'd expect to make a better one of the two, it would definitely be Matt Reeves, no contest.

I love his two Planet of the Apes movies, but I haven't really seen much else of Matt Reeves's body of work to place enough trust in him to believe he will give us the an absolute gem, but I am still hoping for the best.

Ben Affleck had it in him to direct a good Batman movie, I don't know how the script he had in mind was supposed to be, but I do believe he had potential, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of Batffleck's suit in action.

That said though, I felt more engaged in Matt Reeves's flicks, so I'm happy he's directing a movie with what the trailer showed to have excellent camera work and some amazing tone and poster to match.

Disagree. Especially about The Town. Ben was phenomenal in that.

Yeah, I would still like to see him get a chance to direct something for DC one day.

I think on most occasions where you have a director who is capable of playing the lead role in a film (should be quite rare I would have thought), it is going to be better for the film to separate the roles with 2 specialists focusing on their craft. Otherwise it feels like it’s saying a person in that position could direct themselves in other films too.

According to latest article in NY Times, DC Films will make TV series that will be interconnected with DCEU movies.

Also, few DC movies will be made exclusively for HBO Max.

Managing Movie Superheroes Is About to Get a Lot More Complicated
This is confusing tbh... interconnect with what exactly? DCEU as a whole, or just that particular film? Because your quote, and the article quote kinda contradict lol

I think Matt Reeves is the best director DC or Marvel have in their roster right now, hands down.

Still imo, Ben Affleck is a better filmmaker. Even his worst movie, Live by Night, was very well directed(it had script problems).

The Town or Gone baby gone are amazing movies. I havent seen anything that good from Matt Reeves. In an ideal world, we would have had both. Ben Affleck was saying the same things Reeves is saying rn, things like "detective neo noir movie" etc...I honestly believe Affleck's Batman movie could have even eclipsed TDK. Although after seeing The Batman's trailer, I have really really high hopes for that as well.

Fair enough, we'll have to agree to disagree on Affleck's directing prowess. I find him good, but not that good.

Reading comprehension is really at an all time low. Nowhere in that NYT article did Hamada call Batgirl or Static "risky". That was the writer of the article

This is what happens when people put more emphasis on getting angry than actually putting some effort in reading.

Yea that's why I'm a fan of Q&A format. It's less likely for things to get injected in which may cause things to be misconstrued.

Re: Superman and Lois trailer.

Tyler has a great Superman voice. Very calming yet commanding. A good presence. Cool vibes as well with a hopeful/family message. So far so good!

Affleck is overrated as a director. He was fine in The Town. I haven’t seen The Way Back yet but so far I can’t associate him and his acting with the word “phenomenal” yet. And his Batman movie doesn’t sound like a noir detective film to me.

The Way Back is fantastic, and some top notch acting from Ben. As a director, he’s as good as it gets, imo.
