Lounge of Justice - Part 90

that's good for affleck.
he's still young and has many things to do.
but most important, he's gotta stay healthy in mind and body. for his kids.

The Way Back looks good.

In reading the original NY Times piece, it said that the troubled shoot for JL (probably the retooling and reshoots) sapped Ben Affleck's interest in continuing on with The Batman.

don't blame him.
especially when he probably has directing and other acting projects to fall back on.

he gave it his all for BvS though.

I guess the retooling and re-write on the fly with Johns was bad enough.

I think he quit before Whedon took over though

The article notes that he looked like he was losing interest as far back as the post-release stuff in 2016.

Africa in 1900 is a long way from “The Batman,” which Affleck was supposed to direct himself. He stepped aside, allowing Matt Reeves to take over (and Robert Pattinson to don the cowl), after deciding that the troubled shoot for “Justice League” had sapped his interest. Affleck never seemed to enjoy his time as Batman; his sullen demeanor while promoting “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 2016 resulted in the hit meme Sad Affleck. “I showed somebody ‘The Batman’ script,” Affleck recalled. “They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again.’”

I'll never forget that press tour after the movie opened and him looking really bummed out. Going directly from all that negativity into the JL train wreck would be enough to kill anyone's interest.

In a way, he and Cavill probably got dealt the worst hand of the Justice League cast. Wonder Woman and Aquaman at least had their more crowd pleasing hits come after the more controversial installments to win public favor, while those two didn't get the benefit of a more positively received solo film to really win people over.

Cavill had his chance with Shazam, but didn't take it, not sure how he's gonna go now.

Affleck had personal issues as well, he's too good to be stuck in the toxic fandom environment anyway, good on him for moving on. He was sincerely proud of what they had done on BvS (probably before WB chopped it up) and I had the same reaction as him when the film was trashed all round. His batman film probably won't meet eye to eye with the mainstream anyway, so happy to see him kick starting his career again, hope he gets back with Jen soon as well, and build a good life with the children.

Cavill was a champ how he handled that BvS press tour. Affleck did absolutely nothing sitting alongside him. Affleck was definitely checked out after the reception to BvS. He knew what was coming as he's been apart of the business and the bombing of Live By Night only added gasoline to the fire. Throw in his divorce and personal life and it was the perfect storm of everything that could go wrong, going wrong. Ben was an absolute great cast for Batman. The dude had to go through a ****storm from Day 1 of his casting and he worked so hard at the role for BvS. It showed how bad he wanted it. To get torn apart when announced, to committing, to pulling it off and having the rug instantly pulled from you with the critcal reception and then the JL fiasco, it was all just not the right timing in the end. Still LOVE the absolute living **** out of Ben suiting up. He was a beast in the cowl and glad we got to see his version.

They could shoot a biography for the event of 2014-2021 (the 3rd act is his comeback), might win an Oscar best picture

Funded by The United Star Federation approached the Cyno system. The Jehovah Witnesses on board knew what they had to do, and they began their epic adventure, to battle it out 500,000km above the atmosphere! LONG LIVE JEHOVAH!

As they took to the stars they knew, there was no going back.

A very victorious melody kicked in right as the sexy vampire aliens were saved by the rogue allies.

Dr One ball @Spider-Aziz ( A man of few words and most of all...A man against all things sexy was developing a dark plan through out the epic space mission)

In the year 2025 and the Dr. has finally completed his Rider System Supersoldier project...

Kind of makes you wonder just how much was going on during BVS and JUSTICE LEAGUE filming. Dang.

Why include BvS ?, nothing was going on while they filmed BvS. Ben knew what he was signing up for.. only thing he couldn't have anticipated is the backlash that followed post movie's release.

I still think the backlash to BvS was over blown. I mean people acted like they never seen Batman be violent before this movie. I think the reaction to BvS was mainly because of how tame and light hearted most of the Marvel movies are people were just expecting something like that. Not something so serious and dark. But once again I think those movies didn't have an effect on his drinking it was what was going on in his personal life that had this effect and I for one am glad he is doing much better.

He was in rehab several times earlier also, but I suppose it got worse. The main thing was "Live by Night" movie's failure, which he was heavily invested in as he was the Producer, writer and director, during the movie's promotion he was asked questions about BvS' failure. Then after "Live By Night" bombed, the issues with his divorce and alcoholism got him, apart from the fact that he was not satisfied with "The Batman" script writing process.

Just look at figures, people nowadays are so eager to call Birds of Prey as flop, Live By Night had similar budget of $90 M, and it was also "R" rated

Live By Night (2016)

Domestic $10M
International $12M
Worldwide $22 M

I vaguely remember stories about Affleck being overwhelmed a bit even during BVS filming, as The Batman went into development and they were working on Justice League and future franchise films. Remember, the original plan was like five big movies, not including The Batman. Couple that with what was going on in his personal life, and studio/creator friction, and that's a lot to juggle.

Not to mention that the WB at one point wanted him to take over overseeing the DCEU.

When you commit yourself to a project heavily only to not see it received the way you were hoping, that disappointment will absolutely have an effect on you. John Carpenter couldn't talk about The Thing for years after its release because seeing how poorly it was received when it was first released (even though it's now rightly regarded as a cult classic and one of his best movies) crushed the poor guy.
