Lounge of Justice - Part 90

The idea of Batman is that he'll be more effective if he makes himself into a legend, something larger than human. The reason he dresses like a bat is to wrap himself up in a mythology, to prey on superstition, it's marketing, it's psychological warfare.
The burning bat was a challenge to Banes authority, announcing to the city that Batman was back, and still capable of doing the impossible. It gives those who might want to resist Bane a banner to rally around and strengthens their courage. It puts fear in the hearts of Banes thugs, everyone who got out of Blackgate would have felt a chill go up their spine when they seen that.

This is exactly what Batman is, if you think it's silly or unrealistic that's fair enough, however I think you need to accept that basic concept if your going to engage with Batman stories.

I get the reasoning, but when thinking of the logistics of it all, like, was he hanging by a rope around his waste? How long did it take him? What if he took 5 minutes longer? Gordon would've been a commishicle. It's a very theatrical moment, but also one that makes one wonder how the hec he did all that.

I think when it comes to exact logistics you have to lean a little on suspension of disbelief, it is a superhero movie afterall.

Hey look, Lois Lane's father in 1978 was the Man of Steel.

Irrfan Khan who acted in many Indian films and was seen in The Amazing Spider-Man and Jurassic World passed, RIP.

Right... But, like, how?

tumblr_pjlvj70aNv1qj6sk2o1_500.gifv

Mibbe he climbed up and sprayed some flammable Bat-gunk, mibbe the flying tumbler has a flammable Bat-gunkspray attachment, mibbe he hired some window washers to do it for him, mibbe he had prepared it years ago "just in case", mibbe it was done with mirrors, mibbe...

I dunno, and I don't think it really matters. To me it's a bit like asking exactly what physics are involved in Superman being able to fly. The answer to exactly how could someone do that is: they couldn't. It's a story about a superhero, if you come away annoyed because they managed to complete a seemingly impossible feat, you've missed the point.

One good thing to come out of this quarantine is being able to re-live my favorite sitcoms.

I forgot how genuinely awesome HIMYM was back in the day. I know this is more of a quick detour before the main course (I'll binge watch all of Friends) since I'm only watching a select few episodes which I love but damn, it's so good. It's been such a great feeling

How can you have Margot avatar and not watch BoP ? You need to see it asap.

This ain't a criticism of any of you guys, but man I just can't for the life of me get the appeal of Friends. It just always felt like Living Single with no flavor.

I **** with Seinfeld though.

I use to love living single. Now that I think about it you're right.

I know man but I wanna see other stuff. Birds of Prey can wait a little longer but How I Met Your Mother, Friends (or any other sitcom for that matter) can't. I literally won't have the time to see any tv show once this quarantine is over for good.

Never heard of Living Single and I gave Seinfeld a try but it just wasn't for me.

I'll still take HIMYM over Friends but I really love both. I was initially not receptive to the latter (thought it was alright but didn't understand the craze) but it won me over.

Living Single use to come on right after Martin it was a great show. It was like a young version of the Golden Girls mixed with Friends. Actually it was Friends before there was a Friends show.

I'll take your word for it but I don't know what Martin or Golden Girls is.

Funny thing, I only watched like half of season 1 (12 episodes) and one third of season two (8 episode) of HIMYM but nao I'm thinking about seeing it all (I'm seeing s3e15 atm but I've only seen 5 prior to this one). I can't resist the temptation anymore. It'll probably take a week for me to finish the whole thing but I hafta see it through.

Embarrassed to say, but I'm just now listening to The Weeknd's After Hours and hot damn. This is such a vibe. In Your Eyes got me feeling like an 80s bad boy heartthrob type.

@Kane52630 gonna need some similar recos.

They're probably not as great as In Your Eyes, but I would put them in the same arena.

Basically, you can't go wrong with Ollie Wride, The Midnight, Timecop1983, and Sebastian Gampl.

Son, Batman is my favorite cb character. I dont need him explained to me and I assure you I’m saying this to you without a tone or any type of venom behind my words. I just loathe dkrises. I haven’t cringed that much watching Batman in god knows how long. Felt like Nolan dropped the ball on this one, sloppy writing and characters etc. Opening sequence was great tho. To be honest, I havent really liked his past three flicks. I’ll still be there for TENET.

Rises is far from flawless, it is my favourite of the trilogy, but is does make a few mistakes. I think what got me is that there is a tendency that sometimes crops up, of criticising films not based on important stuff, but on nitpicks. Someone at work showed me one of the "Everything wrong with... " videos, naively I thought it would be an analysis of the film, but it was just pointing out continuity errors. There was no genuine attempt to engage with the text, it was just looking for typos.

I'm not saying filmmakers shouldn't try to keep a sense of internal logic, it's just that I get annoyed by that being the level of discourse. I have more respect for arguments saying "X character was poorly written" than "technically that isn't how the plane would crash"
Just a pet peeve of mine.

So theyre basically forfeiting films that will end up grossing well over 3 billion dollars altogether. Real smart business strategy Amc. Good luck with that.
