Cowboy Bebop (Live-Action)
I'm only 7 episodes in, but I think I've wrapped my head around why it doesn't totally work for me. They took a more serialized approach than the anime, which meant they had to spend more time fleshing out the narrative. In doing that, they took some of the more interesting episodes from the anime and dumbed them down to service the main characters. The "Binary Two-Step" episode is a great example of this in how it reimagines Dr. Londes in a much more easily digestible way to place more focus on Spike's psyche.
It's a choice that I can respect, but I feel ultimately bit them in the ass in the end. Because they've sacrificed the sorta tragic simplicity that made the anime work so well. The characters have gotten bigger, but they feel more generic. And the world they inhabit feels smaller because of it.
Anyway, I still got a few episodes left so we'll see if my final thoughts change by the end. I do think it's a shame the show didn't get a season 2. Feels like it could've hit its stride with all of the backstory outta the way.
