The Winter Soldier Love Interest for Captain America II - Part 1

Vince McMahon's mother is 92 years old.

Guess what guys? People can live past 90!

Of course they can; but few do. I've got a great-grandmother who's still alive at 93, but she's a rarity.

It's obviously not inconceivable that Peggy Carter would still be alive in 2014, but she'd be ahead of the curve, with US life expectancy at 81 for women, and UK life expectancy for women at 83.

If they're opting to conveniently make Peggy still alive at close to the century mark, they might as well opt to have some or all of Cap's other comrades still kicking through the regular aging factor (as opposed to all his old friends, enemies, and frenemies who are joining him in vast numbers through non-traditional means, like Bucky, Zola, and Skully).

oh my god dude, what is your issue with peggy carter. it stretches more credibility that all of his friends are alive, versus one or two. one does not immediately follow the other, the logic leaps you've been making today are borderline self-parody.

Oh my god dude, news flash: I. don't. have. a. problem. with. Peggy. Carter.

Cappice?
I have a problem with the way certain scenes involving an old Peggy Carter would portray Steve Rogers. I have a problem with the way certain scenes involving an old Peggy Carter could be very disrespectful to her character and her backstory. And I *don't* have a problem with her still being alive at ninetysomething: I'm just saying that a *lot* of people from Cap's past could still be alive at ninetysomething. Hell, make it a full-on veteran's reunion with Gabe, Dum-Dum, Union Jack and the rest of 'em.

Nothing in Steve dancing with an old Peggy Carter makes Steve look bad -- only if you reach for the most ungracious interpretation of that scene, and assume Peggy Carter has no decision or say in the matter. Peggy Carter is not a victim, so why the hell are you making her one?

Hopefully they attempt to make her look a realistic 90+. I swear if she's still somehow a sexy 90-something? lol.

What scenes? In what way do they disrespect her character or backstory?

You must have missed how that idea was skewered.

This movie will be groundbreaking if it features a love scene between Chris Evans and and 90 year old woman.

Helen Mirren is very sexy at almost 70.

20+ years is still a huge difference.

Tbh there was not a real reason to bring back the original actress even. People in their 90's rarely look even remotely like they did in their 20's or 30's.

They could have conceivably just brought in a much older actress and just had her play peggy.

I guess the fans would prefer the original actress back though? assuming they don't cheese up the make-up/cgi on her.

Anyone else just see it as Steve keeping his word to Peggy by giving her the dance he promised, and nothing more or pervy? Just a sentimental tie plus a beautiful goodbye to the character of Peggy.

That's really the way I see it. I also see Steve not visiting or calling her since he's been awaken as a sign he doesn't exactly know how to break it to her he's alive. He's probably worked up enough courage to finally do it now or maybe SHIELD has arranged it due to her having some possible information about Bucky also being alive.

They're going to use make up to make her look old, but are they going to cg her boobs down to her knees?

This conversation is stupid. Cap is just going to see the first girl he loved and try and get some closure with the relationship. And then he will move on with his love life. Maybe they finally get their dance. Maybe they don't. Maybe Peggy will at least get some peace that Steve is still alive and maybe relieve her of some longstanding guilt or regret she had for 70 years. That's it.

And I'm glad it's Atwell. This is what she wanted to do with the role. She played this character on film, so I'm glad she's continuing it in this form.

EASY guys, I can see the problems with something like this. I would imagine Peggy would have moved on with her life being as independent as she was even in the 40's.
I can actually see her introducing Steve to Sharon for that matter, but the problem I see with that is Steve would have to feel very uncomfortable with that. Peggy had time to move on STEVE hasn't.

Yes because news stations in England do not report when there is an alien invasion in NY. :yay:
So there's no way she saw him on TV or anything. :o

I'm still confused how anyone is seeing it any other way.

You find out your girlfriend is 70 years older than you are. You can't date her, but you still have to resolve those feelings. There's no other way logical way for this to play out.

Now that I think about it, how old is Steve suppose to be anyway?

The last couple of pages of this thread reminded me of why I both love and hate reading these forums before any Marvel film is released. It was expected, but still.

A visit with Peggy is a great way for Steve to get closure on his past and everything he lost, which will help him to embrace life in the present. It's such a logical thing that it's hard to see why anyone would object to it, other than some sort of bizarre nonagenarian phobia. Steve & Peggy can have their reunion, talk about her life a little (I imagine that she has some vital bit of info that he needs), and then part for the final time. I plan to have tissues crammed into my pockets for that scene.

Those fearful of seeing a full-blown love scene or even a chaste kiss should take a bathroom break at the appropriate moment.

One thing I wonder about Peggy's life:

In the MCU, will she be involved with Gabe Jones as she was in the comics? Someone on Tumblr noticed that Atwell was wearing a ring on her left ring finger, so I suppose we'll find out what if anything that means later.

The writers alluded to it back in 2011.

So, current comic speculation is that the relationship between Steve and Sharon will end, and Steve will set his sights on [blackout]the Scarlet Witch, who is set to make her debut in Avengers 2.[/blackout] Hrrmmm.
