Loved the sequel, didn't care for the original

Dungeons And Dragons II: Wrath Of The Dragon God was better than the original Dungeons And Dragons movie (even though it went straight to DVD). The first one had a much bigger budget, which allowed them to hire known actors and have better FX. Unfortunately none of that money went towards hiring decent writers (I could eat a box of Alphabits Cereal and crap a better script). The second movie had a MUCH better script, but unfortunately only a fraction of the originals budget. If they had more money it would've been even better.

Visually, T2 was a better movie than Terminator was. Only thing I didn't like was the T1000. According to the rules of time travel established in the first movie, the T1000 never should have been able to travel back in time. But that's splitting hairs, it was still a cool movie.

I totally agree on the Mad Max/Road Warrior thing.

Can't agree with you on the TMNT/TMNT2 issue though. The first movie was very much like the original graphic novels (which I now wish I'd bought), while the sequal was too much like the Saturday Morning Cartoon. The turtles didn't even use their weapons for cryin' out loud!

Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi are part of a trilogy, and don't really count as sequels (and yes, I am quoting Scream 2). But you have to remember that to make Star Wars, George Lucas had to beg, borrow, steal, and go into debt to get the movie made. The second and third movies in the trilogy, he simply used his profits from the preveous film(s). More money often (though not always) equals better quality.

Friday The 13th 2 and 3 were better than part 1.

The Dark Knight was better than Batman Begins, which in turn was better than any of the earlier Batman films.

The Star Wars prequels were never made. They do not exist. I have no idea what you people are talking about.

Spider-man 2 pretty much erased my indifference to the first movie, which was decent but seemed forced at times (and it was just amazing). And even though a lot of people hate Spider-man 3, I'd still prefer that and SM-2 over the first movie.

Now I think Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are on equal footing -- TDK has a much better story and acting, but BB feels like a true Batman movie to me.

Doesn't really count but Superman Returns was way better than 3 and 4...

I never really liked Alien and feel that it is one of the most overrated movies of all time.

But I Love Aliens!

Totally agree.

At World's End > Dead Man's Chest > Curse of the Black Pearl. For me, anyway. I'm in that minority.

"Loved the sequel, didn't care for the original"

I'll interpret the thread title as meaning I didn't really like the original but did enjoy the sequel.... I see some people are just saying which movie franchises had better sequels... well, yeah.... X2, Spiderman 2, TDK, all are better than the first installments... but I LOVED the originals as well...

So...

I thought Terminator 1 was... alright.... T 2 was GREAT!

I thought Blade 1 was.... meh.... Blade 2 was GREAT!

Fantastic Four 2 was definitely better than Fantastic Four 1, though both kinda suck. lol.

Too many of you just naming sequels that are better than originals. I thought this was can't stand or don't like very much with the first movie and like the second or third better.

For me, i'm going to go with Short Circuit 2. I find the first film to be kind of dull and I think number 5 doesn't have enough personality. But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the second one. When those two thugs beat Johny 5 to death and he's screaming and talking about how he's dying....well, if that doesn't upset you then you sir have no soul lol.

I've seen a few people mention Gremlins 2 and I'm going to mention it as well.

Gremlins 2 is so gloriously bat**** crazy that I don't see how it's possible for anyone not to like it. The original on the other hand, I could totally do without.

I have to agree here too. When I was little, the firs tone scred me. Then I watched the second one, and even as a kid, I was like "What the hell is this?" ITs really mor eof a parody of itself, which is great. Plus, you can't beat trash talking Hulk Hogan, and a great performance from Christopher Lee.

I have the same thoughts on Army of Darkness, as I love it over Evil Dead and EDII, although I love all three.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was much better than 2, on par with the original, and better than any other sequels.
Halloween H20 was better than any of the sequels except maybe 2, and was nearly, but not entirely, on par with the original.

I don't care what anyone else says, Friday the 13th Part 7 is a much better sequel than sequels 3 through 6. Yeah, he gets the hockey mask in 3, but none of the others stuck with me like 7 did, even with the stupid psychic plot.

The Dark Knight was better than Batman Begins, which as mentioned, was better than any other Batman movie made.

I'll leave it here, but the list goes on.

First thing that comes to mind...

The Incredible Hulk? <3

(Not really a sequel, but still... Never cared about the first one...)

There're a few that've been mentioned that I agree with: Aliens, T2, TDK, Empire Strikes Back.

There're a few that'e been mentioned that I disagree with: Gremlins 2 (great movie, but the first is a holiday classic), TMNT2 (love it as much as the first, but not more), Revenge of the Sith (easily the worst of all the Star Wars films).

Ones I haven't seen mentioned yet: Superman II (don't care for the first one aside from Chris Reeves' performance), The Two Towers (although I usually consider the trilogy to be one LONG film, each one is better than the last, even though Return of the King suffers from too much Frodo).

TDK and Gremlins 2 come to mind..

Thank you for actually interpreting this.

Yeah, forgot about that one. Prince Nuada was a big step up from Rasputin and I liked how Hellboy and Liz's relationship progressed.
