Report: LUCASFILM In Talks With 4 Female Directors For Future STAR WARS Films

Every Star Wars film has had a male director, even counting the five upcoming films under the Disney umbrella -- but that may be changing. Hollywood agent Adriana Alberghetti has stated (as reported by the Los Angeles Times) that four female directors she represents have recently had meetings with Lucasfilm for future movies following Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Alberthetti, a partner at WME, doesn't disclose who the four directors are, but adds that she arranged meetings for three female screenwriters as well. Some of her clients include directors S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, Orange Is The New Black) and Sarah Gavron (Suffragette) and writers Linda Woolverton (Maleficent) and Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

"Behind closed doors, people at the studios are saying, 'we know we have a problem,'" Alberghetti said. "How do we get more women behind the camera?"

And nice leap you made there assuming "for the sake of them being female", when that's not said in the article even once. If it wasn't for George Lucas, who had a pivotal role in turning his clueless wife's messy first cut of the original movie into the classic that we all know and love today, the saga would've been ruined before it even had the chance to start.

I just don't really understand the issues. One of Kathleen Kennedy's stated goals is to use the Star Wars brand to give opportunities to up and coming directors. It is one reason I am pretty excited to how Lucasfilm expands under her reign.

Hollywood outright refusing to hire women (it's true, look it up) and privileging male directors is not "politics", but this for some reason is. I don't see the difference tbh.

You're the one who jumped to "THEY'RE JUST DOING THIS FOR POLITICS NOT QUALITY!!!" Yes, their meetings included the award-winning writer of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King and the director of episodes of an acclaimed Netflix series because they don't care about quality.
