Anyone who's seen Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin knows the director is a master of tension.

A quality she brings once more to You Were Never Really Here, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a tormented enforcer on a rescue mission to save a missing teenage girl. The official synopsis adds, "Corrupt power and vengeance unleash a storm of violence that may lead his awakening."

Based on the book by Jonathan Ames, the film premiered to critical adulation at last year's Cannes Film Festival, where Lynne Ramsay won Best Screenplay and Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor.

It also boasts a soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood, and further stars Ekaterina Samsonov, Judith Roberts, John Doman, Alex Manette, Dante Pereira-Olsen, and Alessandro Nivola.

When you are Joaquin Phoenix and you win best actor at Cannes...

To me, Lynne Ramsay has made a masterpiece, and one of the great tough-guy neo-noir actioners. I honestly can’t say for sure that I’ve ever seen a better film in all the eight years I’ve been covering Sundance and that’s the truth - as I waited days before writing this to make sure my feelings didn’t change. YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE is the real deal, and one of the decade’s greatest films.

:wow: 10/10 btw

Yeah, I can't wait for this. This is my ****.

Killer ****ing poster.

Lynne Ramsay + Joaquin Phoenix = ticket sold

Christ I want this dude in an MCU movie as much as he probably despises the entire notion.

Joaquin Phoenix deserved the oscar more than Oldman as fat b*****d.
