Lovely!

If you seriously think that teens or kids won't see a movie in theaters because it's rated R, then I guess you don't see many R rated movies in theaters.

Its not a matter that they won't, just often that they can't. Its a the reason why there are so many studio mandated PG13 cuts. R rated films leave a lot of money on the table.

That would be awesome, but more than likely we'll get some piece of photoshopped garbage like this:

The cover makes it look like Max is being hunted by a gang of tiny motorcycle men.

If they want to, they'll be able to see it.

I think the catch is that people will watch PG-13 in bigger groups, since the movie is more accessible. Families are less prone to R-rated movies.

How much of a factor do you think the absence of Mel Gibson is going to be?

A lot of people are soured on Gibson in recent years, and Tom Hardy is well-liked on the internet, though Joe Shmoe on the street, chances are, has no idea who he is.

The thing with Mad Max is that..it's a very odd franchise that we all know about, it's been ingrained into the pop lexicon, but there isn't this real sentimental tie to it. We all love Road Warrior but it's clearly a cult film, that fits in more with Evil Dead than Back to the Future. Meaning that Mel did a great job Max, but not too many people are crying over him being recast.

also, I think it's due to Mel's self destruction that left his career DOA. It's hard to separate the art from the artist when the artist is a public figure who is still alive and (somewhat) active.

Yeah, I feel like the public's opinion on Mel has soured to the point where they don't really care that he's not in this. I feel like this movie will do well because it just looks f***ing awesome more than due to people having an affinity for this specific franchise.

I wonder if this is a situation like Drive where the lines you hear the main character saying in the trailers are the only ones he has in the film, haha.

Haha, I've wondered the same thing. We did have the brief exchange between Max and Furiosa in the Taiwanese trailer though.

FURIOSA: "You'll never get a better chance."

MAX: "At what?"

FURIOSA: "Redemption"

I have to assume they do at least slightly more talking than that. Hardy's Max might make Forrest Bondurant look like a chatterbox though.

He is rumored to only have about 20 lines or so. I think the film starts with his V.O but on screen, he has no more than 20. :woot:

Gibson in Road Warrior had 16 lines, and Miller has said Hardy has approximately the same.

Hardy himself in his recent Esquire interview hazarded a really vague guess that he had anywhere from "4 to 20" lines. (so in other words Tom doesn't remember)

That's good to hear. My one friend who is going to see it with me cause he loves the original trilogy was all "I really hope Max is mostly silent and they don't have Tom Hardy yapping all over the place. Otherwise it won't feel like Mad Max." when we went to see Furious 7 this past week. Safe to say he will be pleased by this news.
