Snake Plissken facts

S.D. "Snake" Plissken is a former U.S. Army Lieutenant, serving under Special Forces Unit Black Flight, with two Purple Hearts, and the youngest soldier to be decorated by the U.S. President for bravery during campaigns in Leningrad and Siberia in World War III against the USSR. Some time later, he turned to a life of crime, probably due to the perceived betrayal of the United States government during the "Leningrad Ruse".

Mad Max facts

Max Rockatansky is a Main Force Patrol officer fighting for peace on the roads of a dystopic Australia. Max is quiet, rarely speaking to any great extent, and never paying much attention to his steadily-increasing reputation. He is an outstanding pursuit driver and is emotionally complex, often laughing and joking with his peers and his wife, Jessie, with whom he is very much in love. Max is eventually unable to cope with the loss of his friend, wife, and infant son. As a result, he carries out the ruthless revenge killings of those responsible for their deaths. He is last seen driving out into the wasteland, leaving the fading remnants of civilization behind him.

Actor: Mel Gibson

Snake is more of a badass, and I liked Escape From New York better than the second two Mad Max movies (I haven't seen the first).

I'm honestly not sure of the answer myself. Both characters made their debut around the same time. Both products of the problems of the time like the perceived breakdown of society through moral decay, dwindling resources, and corrupt authority and government. I'd say both characters have been very influential over the last three decades and plenty of others have been inspired by them and the worlds they inhabit just as Max and Snake were inspired by earlier anti heroes.

Both characters are loners with specialized training. Max as a specialized law enforcement officer and Snake as a soldier. Max is the more sympathetic character because we saw his back story but Plisskens got a code of his own. Snake's way more into self preservation though. I doubt if Max really gives a **** if he lives or dies most of the time. Both will kill any idiot who screws with them without flinching.

I'm curious to see some actual responses if anyone decides to give them and do more than just vote.

Snake Plissken - cool character, awful movies.

I know Escape from New York is supposed to be a cult classic, but it really is lame. It's supposed to be an action movie - there is no action in it! It's supposed to be a race against time, yet Snake spends most of the movie not doing very much and sometimes just sitting around.

The sequel is even worse.

What are you talking about? Did we even watch the same film? He's hauling ass trying to save the President.

Better than the first Mad Max. Mad Max 2 is what a great sequel is so I would say that and Escape From New York are matched.

Snake is just a cooler character. And he never needed to drag around orphans. All Plissken needs is his really ****** attitude, his eyepatch, and a real Circumvent Murphys Law style that gets him out on top.

Screw Sequels, have Russell and Carpenter do a full on Snake Plissken Chronicles as a next gen game. The Thing one was awesome, hell solid Snake is like the Bastard child of EFNY. So that way Kurt can go from Young War era Plisskien, to 1997, then 2014, then we can see fully rendered Snake in his final FU to the World, Escape from Earth.

Mad Max part 1 was a good movie but was it me, or was it somewhat dull?

I'd love to see a Plissken/Mad Max crossover. Both dude hating eachother and then having to work together but still not like eachother much. They would work better as a team fighting rather than communicating.

Nope. I felt like it took too long. I think some things weight it down like the budget. That was apparent in many parts. It didn't do all that much for me. The second film was like a kick in the balls but in a good way.

^well put

Say for instance if this was a Thunderdome match

I am guessing Snake would win. Both would no doubt fight dirty and who ever would win would definately have their hands full they both are also not fighting larger opponents as seen in Escape from New York and Mad Max 3. Both are small/ average build and both quick on their feet. Snake's hand to hand combat would definately play a large part in his. Max would definately not make it easy for him.

Now If this were a pursuit.
I believe Max in his 1973 Ford Falcon "Interceptor" could out drive Snake. Then again so far we haven't really seen that many powerful/awesome cars that Snake has driven. Snake can fly so Max/Interceptor and Snake in a chopper would be interesting.

Shootout
Snake so far as seen on film is definately a modern day gunslinger even with one eye altering his depth perception.

Max: usually armed with his Sawn Off Shotgun and barely any ammo half the time in "The Road Warrior" he is accurate but his shooting skills are never fully seen to the extent of Plissken

Also, I want to comment that it's weird that Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was more..kid friendly (mainstream) because the franchise has alot of bondage/S&M undertones. :p

Yeah, I hated those damn kids. The Barter Town to Thunderdome sequence was awesome. But it became like ROTJ.

That was the one thing I never liked about those films. Especially the second. The bondage stuff. I mean it made me nauseous.

Snake, and it's not even close. No Mad Max movie is as good as EFNY, although I'll also admit no Mad Max movie is as bad as EFLA. I also buy Kurt Russell as a badass much more than Mel Gibson.

I'm a bigger Gibson fan, but I think Snake should take this poll. Though I hope Gibson doesn't see this post. I'm not afraid of him burning my house down, it's what he wants me to do to him first I'm worried about.

I didn't mind it. I mean, male sex slaves no. Female?...hmmm!!:woot:

There were female sex slaves in it? If there were they were seriously underused. Because all I saw were men with their asses hwoign in bondage.

It makes me want to wash my eyes with soap.

Plissken, hands down.

But Max would give him a run for his money.

and for the record, I liked the kids in Beyond Thunderdome, and their subplot was very interesting. I forget who, but some time back, a poster here made this really great post about the over-arching themes in all three Mad Max films that really made me realize how good Beyond Thunderdome really is. When that kid gets sucked into the sand hole? Jeez.

I think Max's best skill is his diving abilities more than anything. He's good with weapons but Snake may be better as well as a slightly better hand to hand fighter. But its hard to say. But Max really seems to be a bit more creative on the fly when his backs against the wall.

Yeah Mad Max to Mad max 2 is one of those cases where the first movie is good but its mostly set up to a much more entertaining sequel.

The first movie introduces Max and gives us his transformation but the second movie really gets to waste no time with kicking it into high gear. It reminds me of X-Men and X2 or Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back in the regard.

Snake is just a cooler character. And he never needed to drag around orphans. All Plissken needs is his really ****** attitude, his eyepatch, and a real Circumvent Murphys Law style that gets him out on top.

For a long time I've wished an animated or anime Plissken movie would be made. I'd for something like that to be a sort of prequel to EFNY or something set between both movies like the whole Cleveland adventure. I still think Russell has one more live action movie in him but he aint getting any younger. Maybe if Carpenters next 2 movies do well he can at least have the clout to push for Escape 3 if he and Russell want to.

I like the idea of each movie having about 15 years between to see how the world of the Escape films has changed.

When it comes down to skill level...

Max- Highway Patrol Police Officer, has to scavenge for fuel, ammo, & weapons. Withdrew from society after wife & son were killed. Pretty much a homeless guy who lives in his car.

Plisskin- Former Congressional Medal of Honor winner, highly trained Special Forces Soldier turned criminal/ outlaw by the right wing totalitarian government of the United States. Skilled in weapon usage from Small Arms to flying Military Aircraft.

SNAKE takes the win, just on skill.

He's not hauling ass. He kind of jogs around occasionally. At the end there is a chase sequence but it's a lame one. The gladiator fight is okay. It's an action film with no action in it. Go on, watch it and count the amount of action scenes and how long they last.

Don't forget, in EfNY his arteries were going to burst, and in EfLA they poisoned him, And Snake still pulled through.

Max just get tortured, or gets his *** kicked. He was always bleeding & swollen at the end of the movies, wandering into the sunset with nothing. Snake stumbles away just regaining his life, smirking as the **** hits the fan behind him.

Snake Plissken, because he has an eyepatch. I can't believe Escape is being remade though. :(

No, they didn't. It was a trick.

Watch it again, they dosed him up on something that gave him a superflu like symptoms. They tricked him by saying it will kill him within a certain amount of time.
