We all know he will be there sooner or later so what do you think they should do with him?

I reckon mention him only in passing in the first one. Say he’s in prison and about to go to the UN for crimes against humanity. Then make him big in xmen 2.

And I’m dying to see him go against the avengers

I think the biggest topic surrounding MCU Magneto is inevitably going to be about his Holocaust origin and whether it should be updated as to avoid an 86 year old Erik.. I'm leaning more towards the side of an update, something more politically relevant to the late 2010s and early 2020s. That's why a middle-eastern Erik who hails from the Kurdish Genocide would be a great update

Not a terrible idea. But Magneto is mainstream enough to make the general audience raise their eyebrow at that.

If they want to keep him European, having his family interned in Omarska would work. Making him Cambodian would probably be the best "transplant" I suppose.

Interesting idea. I was thinking of making subtext context and just setting mags and Charles in the civil rights era. Erik’s family is lynched and he becomes magneto. It clearly still echos today and would set things off.

That said though if you have a Christian Xavier and a Muslim magneto it would clearly go against the xmens ethos.

Magneto is jewish he had suffered from concentration camps and now he is angry against them, we will keep this concept

Would he be Wanda/Petro's biological father ? Mr Mrs MAximoff will be retconned into foster parents

I'm not even interested seeing the mcu's version of Magneto. He's overused and overeXposed. Give the other villains a chance.

I understand but he does offer a different take on events and he’s pretty much essential to the xmen experience. He is their arch nemesis after all. Sooner or later he has to appear

Magneto is not an expendable character.

I wonder if Marvel could give us some of his rivalry with the X-Men, his mutant nation (maybe in Asteroid M!), his relationship with his children, his romantic relationship with Rogue, his current team with Cyclops, Emma Frost and Magik and so much more that I'm probably not even aware of. They've got a lot of ground to cover.

That's a good franchise for Marvel to work on for years!

Im glad to see Magneto MCU version. He would be antihero. A former x-men foe when they was young, he's now solo and sometimes help them

We'll see some aspect from his powers we've never seen in Fox adaptation. In comics his powers are awesome

Have him locked away, an urban legend among the mutant community. Mutants would be exposed in this movie. Now, mutants are looking for a leader in their exposure, so they go to break him out. He's not the villain. Sinister is. Magneto is more a philosophical rival for Charles in the movie.

One of the things that excites me the most about the MCU X-Men is a possible new origin for Eric. If they find a way to keep it, good. If they create a new one, great.

Honestly, his origin is kind of dated and an upgrade would be more than fine by me. And I'm honestly tired of watching his origin in a way or another in every single X-Men movie.

I hope they'll keep his background and his past, a WWII survivor when he was child

The way Ebony Maw levitated and used his powers in Infinity War is how I hope Magneto moves and uses his powers in the MCU.

I dont think they need to or should do his origin. Its been twice already. Like Spiderman, they can talk around it and be vague enough to allude to it, without showing it to us again.

So... take away Magneto's entire reason for wanting mutant supremacy? That would be really stupid. You don't need to show it again, but him being a Holocaust survivor is the core of his character. You can do 'great power, great responsibility' without showing Uncle Ben dying, you can't do Magneto without his trauma.

Did you not read what I wrote?

That's how they handled it in the cartoon and it was seamless. Just showed little glimpses of his old village but didn't specify. Or if they do want him to be a Holocaust survivor they can say his mutation keeps him from aging rapidly.

Tbh, I think Magneto would benefit from an origin update. Unless they give him slowed aging, we're going to need an updated Magneto from a more recent genocide that isn't 80+ years old

yes and the audience is smart enough to fill in the blanks. Excessive exposition is not needed. Though I am against the slow aging. Thats something thats even more rare and should be limited to the likes of Wolverine and Mystique

Mentioning him would be fine for now. Start building up to his full blown appearance which hopefully won’t be till at least a 3rd X-Men film.

Yeah it would be fun to build magneto up in whispers and counter cultural icons (like people start wearing the Magneto was right shirt) and then bang, when magneto finally arrived he does something like this
