Major PS3 exclusive to be announced in August

At least that´s what PlayStation Lifestyle blog is saying, that soemthing big will be revealed on August 3rd, one that makes MAG, Killzone 2 and inFAMOUS look like "NOTHING" (his words, and his caps).
They also say that they will offer three hints on Saturday, July 26th; and that is unrelated to Square Enix's event over the same August date.

I don´t know what it is, but i has to be gigantic, because i´m sure that Microsoft will, to diminish that announcement, reveal the new Bungie game, which, for all that is said, it´s Halo related.

so what are some people's guesses? Final Fantasy VII Remake is the only huge one I can come up with at the moment. It would definetly take attention off of losing FF XIII. Maybe Twisted Metal?

They said it wasn't a RPG, FPS, and not Twisted Metal. So I guess we will have to wait and see. I hope it is Team Ico's new project.

Going through his comments, he has stated that it is a 1st party dev and "i can confirm that it is a Sequel to a previous game. However it has received a total new look and game play feature’s."

Well, if the tags are true..."action", "bullets", "Explosions", "military", "rockets", "Vehicle"...it all points down to another "Halo killer", Sony´s response to Halo.
For Sony´s sake i hope it´s not, since Halo came out, everyone that tried to "kill it" ended up dead and buried.

Twisted Metal doesn't make the others look like nothing though, as much as I love it. I dunno, it'd have to be the return of an old franchise or a beloved developer. Right now I can only place my finger on Team ICO's new game, though it'd sure be nice to get one of the usual very early trailers for MGS5. Could be Heavy Rain.

Crap, the days of the PS3 lacking good exclusives are completely gone. We now have Resistance, Resistance 2, MotorStorm, MotorStorm 2, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank 2, Siren, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Twisted Metal, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, Soccom Confrontation, Warhawk, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy Versus 13, Valkyria Chronicles, Metro 2033, WarDevil, Folklore, and Heavy Rain all on Blu Ray, and everyone of those games is/is set to be a great game (apart from maybe WarDevil).

Add to that fantastic multiplatform titles like Bioshock, Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, and more, making great games like Rainbow Six Vegas ones to wait until cheap, with PSN titles filling in those days you don't have anything to play, and the PS3 is a seriously good platform these days.

Bring on the big announcement.

I played Hardware, I bloody hope its not that what with the extremly superior Twisted Metal coming.

New look sequal from a first party dev eh? Could Naughty Dog be scrubbing up Jak and Daxter?

Whatever it is, its certianly not set to disapoint. OPM after a big feature on Resident Evil 5 said "It is without a doubt our most anticipated title of 2009, bar Sony's big secret game that we're STILL not allowed to talk about... yet."

That's what we all think it is, but Sony hasn't given a name to anything. They were interviewed during E3 on GTtv about how they announced they had an exclusive R* franchise last year, and said "It's disappointing that here we stand a year later and have no information to give." but that they knew with Rockstar it's best to just let them be, they'll deliver something good.

So who knows.

The thing about Team ICO's new project, is would it really be considered "major?" To me, major indicates something like Resident Evil or Halo or GTA or MGS. A massive, franchise game. Like what a Star Wars or Spider-Man movie is to Hollywood. ICO games are really more of the Juno-type movie of video games. Its art house, not major.

Just read the article, I'm more curious about his phrasing. A "new" Playstation 3 "exclusive". So maybe a current big hit from another console or a multi-platform game that Sony snagged up? IMO it's gotta be someting huge if they won't even let ppl who know about it mention it yet. Obviously it's not Halo or anything first party. I'll have to think on this one, however I'm pretty excited for inFAMOUS, and MAG looks good (from what little they've shown), making them look like "NOTHING"...hmm.

Then there's your post from OPM that said basically said it's around RE5's level, and RE5 looks good. I'll give it a little thought, but I'm not going to think too much about it or I'll end up disapointing myself when it turns out to be Jumping Flash 3 or something.

What else was I shown? Well I was shown a trailer for a game not due out til 2009 but was sworn to secrecy. Apparently, Sony just wanted to give a glimpse of what the console was capable of.

I don't mean to be a tease - all I can say is I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown was truly "in game", as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change of what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion.

So, possibly a revamped old game? Obviously it sounds less like the title of the game itself is as important, and what's more important is what the game itself brings to the table in terms of graphics, story-telling, and immersion into said game.

In response to Matt's post, I think that the dev has built up so much reputation now that a new game from them could be considered major. Shadow of the Colossus is known to everyone.

Let's think about it, what's going to make inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, and MAG etc look like nothing? Team ICO are the only devs out there that could make a sequal from a game considered to be one of the best of all time. A new Jak and Daxter, or Uncharted, as fantastic as they would be, would NOT make other exclusives look like nothing. SotC has gone down as one of the best of the best, up there with Metal Gear etc. I can't think of anything else.
