Hi in an effort to obtain a 500 dollar scholarship, I have to write an essay on diversity and why it is a good thing.

To help me get started I'm looking for a little inspiration, or some boiling blood. So if you can get my blood boiling, go for it. Much appreciated.

You have to write an essay about why diversity is a good thing?
That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard of, affirmative action sucks ass. I feel for you.

World peace is for *****es, Oorah Marine Corps, Motivate, Kill.:o

But seriously, if the world was all happy and living in harmony, what would happen to my beloved Corps? Our proud warrior culture and legacy of military excellence would be confined to history books, and a once great tradition would be lost.

If that helps...

This is about diversity, not world peace.

Or I can write about why it's a bad thing. but my position is that it's a good thing.

Affirmative Action would surely play a part in my essay, but my participating in this contest, isn't a result of Affirmative Action. I'm not required to do it, I'm just competing for some here and there.

In one competition I had to bid virtual dollars on bush's next approval rating, and I was off by one freaking percent. I knew it would drop from immigration, but I overestimated the drop by one percent. One freaking percent. It's totally in the margin of error. I might have been right.

That effort would instead be invested in law enforcement, or something else noble.

Killing people is not a great tradition.

Without diversity, the Hype would be a dull place with MemphisSlim's posting all the time.

I take back what I said about affirmative action, being one eighth Choctaw got me through college. Being a registered Indian kicks ass. I still feel for you, if you can’t fight the system use it to your advantage. I just hope you’re not too white. :woot:

Is it stated that it HAS to be a good thing?
Because you should say as I have reiterated "Who ****ING CARES about diversity as a good thing? RACISTS, thats who."

The two are somewhat connected. In order to achieve world peace, we surely have to accept and tolerate diverse cultures and lifestyles, and exposure often promotes tolerance. So a lot of different people living together in one area, or a melting pot, as many put it, can contribute to peaceful relations in the long run.

In other words, it's hard to support enslaving blacks, when you have many blacks whom your close to.

No. My essay can be why it's a bad thing or a good thing, but I do believe it is a good thing. And I can write a better essay, if I believe in what I'm writing.

Killing people is not a great tradition.

See? Our opinions differ. Not killing, but being an effective, fully operational, force in readiness is.

Nothing is more noble than fighting for your country. Look at all the Marines, sailors and corpsmen that fought and died in the Pacific during World War II. That is an amazing legacy. And that's just one chapter of Marine Corps history.

The moment we stop hating people for their skin color and religion is the moment we start killing people just for greed.

Well, to help you out, what makes diversity important to YOU?

In this instance we don't differ. Protecting the homeland or protecting anybody is honorable and noble.

But I also think being a teacher, firefighter, or risking your life to help advance the space program, or the grueling practice of being a doctor are also noble.

Marines are no better or worse than firefighters, doctors, policemen and that kid who pulled me out of the swimming pool before I drowned when I was three.

In the sense that they both serve a greater good, yes. I'm not looking for an argument, anyone...I was just giving the guy something to maybe work with, and the most narrow-minded opposing viewpoint to look at.

I believe that exposure to diversity opens up doors. It exposes you to all the different ways you can live, and by seeing lots of it, one might not feel as pressured into conforming to the norm.

that's why it's important to the individual. As far as important to society? I feel that exposure to different cultures and lifestyles promotes acceptance and tolerance. By realizing all the different ways you can live, you are less likely to want to oppress somebody who is different when you encounter them.

Okay, I was just busting your balls too.

If someone were to ask you to justify beneficial-racism relating to hiring employees, what would you respond with?

I don't believe that. For one thing, more people are just more people to help cycle the flow of money and eoconomic continuance. More employees to pay, and more consumers to sell to. It can be done.
