Superman Returns Make that June 27th! Whoop!

hmmm.... june 27th is a tuesday. i couldnt recall an event film like this opening on a tuesday-- even if its at 10:00 pm at night. they should still release this on either wednesday, thursday or friday. best date in my assesment would be june 21st.

If POTC2 came out a week before superman they would be scared too. Make no mistake about it....POTC2 would much rather open July 4th weekend

By the way, i really hope Pirates 2 delivers. Since the majority of people has locked this movie to be the top grossing film (already....). I really hope people don't get out dissapointed with this one.

And history is NOT in their favor....(comparing how sequels did (PART II's ONLY) of astronomical blockbusters original films)

If WB was THAT afraid of POTC2, they wouldn't have released it so close. I mean, its not like they JUST figured out POTC2 is going to be a huge hit. Admittedly, I think they should have given more space between the two release dates, but just because POTC2 is going to be big doesn't mean SR won't. What they're doing now is smart... if they release it earlier in the week, then some people will go see it early (namely, us) and if the film is good, we'll talk it up to the more casual moviegoers so that they go see it over the weekend and postentially by the time POTC2 hits theaters, SR will already be a juggernaut that will be continuously making money even though Depp and co. are sure to take the top spot in their opening weekend.

orignally the movie was supposed to come out back in 6/30/1998 and well we can see how those projects came so im glad they pushed it back cuz its a cursed DAY!

The first thing I took this as is they want to beat X3's opening numbers, even if they're getting an awefully big jump on the actual weekend, thus negating any "record" setting numbers. Either way, I'll be calling my theatre as soon as possible to seen when I can get my tickets. Can't believe opening day is nearly upon us.

It just appears like you are in this forum rooting for pirates to out sell superman...I am not sure what your agenda is or why you are in a Superman forum talking up POTC2...it doesn't seem logical unless your sole purpose is to annoy people in here (in which case it is very logical)

Well, I wonder whether it will be releasing at the same time in India too. It certainly would be a first because maybe except one movie, I don't remember a movie releasing on any other day except Friday. In case it doesn't, I'll not be getting anywhere close to this site for three days.

If I remember right, Warner's did this in select cities for Matrix Reloaded. I remember finding out that same day and buying tickets for a Tuesday night 10:00pm show.

oh yeah i remembered hearing about that.... i took it more as a pre-midnight screening for the actual release date.

The fact of the matter is, if Pirates 2 had moved to july 14th or something, Superman fans would be saying that Disney was scared of Supes and I would agree, but ofcourse they aren't going to say that when the shoe is on other foot.
