Well after having a successful night of being the Joker and getting a far grander response to my looks last night than expected, and now having seen the Watchmen trailer a couple of times, and keeping the faith that it might be entertaining and keeping the tone at least of the source material, I feel like starting in on Watchmen custom costumes.
I looked around for a thread about this issue, cause I thought it would be so common by now, but no cigar..
I know this is probably because this side of the boards is pretty flat, cause about 5% of users total on here, have bothered to read the book.
So concepts anyone?
I'm thinking I got a head start with Rorschach, by having a lovely grimy brown trench in the shack. Any ideas on the face?? I'm all ears.
Also gonna work a Dr. Manhattan, of course with his interview suit. Pictures to come I'm sure..

:shock

IMO, you should go to the midnight screening of watchmen completly naked, and painted blue.

Seriously... if you think you got a responce from your joker costume.... just wait till you see the responce to that.

LOL I can't disagree with that. My vote goes to the blue paint.
On a slightly more serious note, I've been drawing out some costume ideas for halloween for myself, but this has sparked my interest now, and I'll probably draw and post some at some point or another.

I have been kicking around the idea of doing a Rorschach replica for about a year and a half but other project and bills have put it on hold. But after seeing the watchmen trailer i know this costume can be done and look really good!
I know there have been many costumers that have done Rorschach but i have only seen maybe 2 good ones. The problem i am having with the idea of the costume is the mask. How can it be done where you can see out of the mask but no one can see in.... i have seen many Rorschach costumes were you can completely see the wearers face.

Doing the Rorshach one would be pretty easy, all you need is a dirty trenchcoat. striped pants, scarf, fedora, and mask. Well, maybe not soo, easy, but with some investment in Good Will, maybe not so bad. fedora might be hard to find (cheap, that is). I've seen the mask done by marking white t-shirts with a marker and stretching over one's face. It should be thin enough you could see through it. maybe you could take apart big cheap sunglasses and attatch the lenses on the inside of the mask.

Any Manhatten cosumes would be hilarious, though, imo. I'm thinking blue leotard and tights, with lots of facepaint...

Well the problem with the t-shirt idea IMO is it would look bad..... And ones facial features would show threw the mask. kind of like this

It makes me wonder if they used a face shell for the film...

hmm maybe if someone had a fencing mask and they put the t-shirt over that it would work...

You'd be surprised by how well T-Shirt masks can turn out

I'm going about making a Comedian costume, but a more comic rather than movie influenced one, it will end up looking like this style:

My question is, what are some suggestions for making the star shield and stripe sleeve? I've planned out everything else, and it should be easy. Any advice is very much appreciated.

Um, My advice for the Star shield would be a skateboarding shin-guard but you paint it blue, and the sleeve shouldn't be hard. Dye the ends of a white sleeve and sew it on to whatever shirt you use for comedian.

Here's the final part of a short film about Watchmen that featured some decent albeit cheap as hell attempts at watchmen costumes that might provide some help with your costumes

If anybody is gonna strike an attempt at a movie-style ozy costume, you could probably use one of those batman (& robin) costumes that you see so frequently on eBay as a base

That's a really good idea, I'll probably just do that, thank you very much.

I'm already starting on my Silk Spectre costume before every girl tries to go as her in 2009. I had to pass on Harley Quinn this year for obvious reasons.

what reason is this :hehe: yeah the joker thing is going to be out of hand this years halloween...

If I were going to make any costume it would be the comedian's. its my favorite, as he is my favorite character.
Also I have always loved the practical utility of it. its a kick ass look for a guy who is going to kick your ass!

I dont get the Horseradish guy..

I'm going to attempt the Silk Spectre II as well. I have a black dance leotard with a V line from tap dancing, and will be making the dress part out of yellow silk chiffon. I also have straight dark brown hair, and am considering to get bangs done in a similar fashion as Laurie. As to what to wear on my feet I am unsure.

I'm doing a vinyl Silk Spectre II,

Some shoes that I found ironically are on CharlotteRusse.com, that trendy teen clothing place. Who knew that they'd have patent shoes?

This is why I love my friends in retail.

hmm, nothing too impressive yet on this thread. Can't wait to see what people come up with. I'll be working in a Comedian costume myself!
