Making Costumes?

And how did you guys make the designs on your masks? I'm afraid to ruin it.

I haven't made one yet, but if I may I'll offer some ideas..

I'd pick out one of the designs from either the promo pics from the movie, or from the novel and work on drawing on side in freehand(on a piece of paper), then use a mirror and see if you can get one of your eyes looking at the blank half and one looking at the drawn on half, and sort of trace what you see, I've done this before an it usually works great, then after that I'd put it under the mask and trace the drawn design with a sharpie or paint or whatever you're using

Really early days yet. I'm still making up my mind on what fabric to use for the mask, I've narrowed it down to about four swatches so far.
This was just a quick test to see how the colours and style of the hat went together. I dyed the trench/pea coat from a sand colour. I'm not totally sold on the hat, I'm still on the look out for a better one.

Oh and I thought some of you might like to see this

Some more progress today. Found a Trench coat, and pants that I'll dye purple, and gloves. Still need a scarf, hat, and mask. Do pantyhose make a good mask:D? honestly :D? I would order the spandex hood from that creepy site OctaviousINC showed me, but I want to see if there's something out there that doesn't need ordering.

Thoughts?

EDIT: SORRRYY!!!

I just need to find a pair of brown leather gloves and I'm contemplating adding a belt to the coat, it didn't come with one but for 7 bucks at the salvation army i just couldn't pass. It was originally a khaki color but i dyed it a darker brown so it could match my fedora. The mask i bought at an online store as i don't have the patience or talent to make one myself.

Here's my friend's rorschach with a mask made by me:

Here's a computer generated copy of the rorschach on his mask:

It's coming together slowly.
As for the shirt. I'm not using it, it was just for the test photo to see what the colours looked like together.
I should eventually have a sewn full face hood once a suitable fabric has been chosen.
I had thought about using the fine mesh eyehole method but I'm not to keen on the way it looks under flash photography.
Gonna use fabric paint for the blot design. You can achieve some really good results by watering the paint down. This way you can achieve the transitional look that the movie stills seem to have, you know that faded outline. I think thats what they were trying to achieve, a freeze framed look. As if the blot design would normally be moving but was caught mid flow by the photo.
Does this make sense, or am I waffling? lol

Anyway got to get a move on.

Can I just say that I'm so incandescently excited to see your finished costume?

Because this looks amazing.

ok, cool, yeah I think I followed

nice raincoat as well, did you order it or just happen upon it at a goodwill or someplace?

I think a lot of the masks on here look better than this professional one for $170!

Well done everyone.

Got a green wool coat for my civilian Rorscach. I went to the Salvation Army store to see if they had a trenchcoat just in case I changed my mind. Every other time I've been there they had at least three but of course this time, nothing.

HEY. There are DOZENS of us. DOZENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

((Arrested Development for the WIN.))

::high five::

I thought about being Manhattan this year for halloween but i chose not to for fear of people thinking i was dressing as a member of the blue man group.

:D!!!! *high five*

Lol! I know, it's a sad fact. Blue man group members, Manhattan, and a famous PhD Analrapist (uh-NAHL-ruh-pist~ analyist and therapist...) who is also a never-nude all do have that one particular thing in common. I can see where folks might get confused... ;)

I'd go as Lindsay Bluth or Laurie, but there's some similarities there too. ;)

True but Laurie doesn't blatantly advertise the fact that shes a ****.

What luck! Went to Goodwill and found me find trench coat and hat. Alls I need is the mask now which I'm having a bit of difficulty with. Tried white stockings, no good. Trying white shirt now but having difficulty getting the shape. Any suggestions?
