I need help getting rid of this - program? - that I somehow got on my computer last night.

First, I'm not sure exactly how it happened. The only thing I did last night was do a google search for Orlando Magic wallpapers.

I first noticed something fishy when NBA.com came up in Firefox as an "attack site".

After a little bit of digging, I noticed something on my computer called Malware Destructor 2009.

It's sitting in my active tray on the bottom, and brings up a desktop icon. Since I've noticed it, I cannot get into the "Properties" tab on my desktop. I cannot get into "Add / Remove Program" from my control panel. I cannot do a System Restore.

The program also occassionally pops up randomly, telling me how I have tons of infections on my computer, and I need to activate Malware Destructor to get rid of it.

I can't find this thing anywhere on my computer to try to delete it. Like I said, I can't get into Add / Remove Programs to get rid of it that way. I tried booting up in Safe Mode to see if I could find it and get rid of it there - no luck.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of this thing? Does anyone even know what this thing is?

this is a rouge malware that is affected your computer, basically a anti-malware program but its really malware
do you have a antivirus scan or antimalware scan that you use? you can get rid of it that way

Download Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. Install update and reboot and login in safemode and run them. This will clean out pretty much any infection.

I tried running both of those programs in safe mode, and neither one of them detected Malware Destructor and got rid of it.

I also tried my AVG, but the damned thing won't even let me open up AVG to run.
