These are some of the quotes from Bayona that convinced me he would be the perfect director for WB's next Superman film.

Lol that high brow **** is what got MoS and BvS in trouble.

By all rights Supes should've been the Iron Man of this thing, the linchpin tying it all up.

Unfortunately Supes doesn't have the creative freedom needed to be molded in to a likeable character.

I agree with this, mainly because fans demand nothing to be changed, and expect him to be one thing, an extreme end of the spectrum. When the reality is: if he doesn't change or reflect the times, he becomes stale; and he's not one thing, he's alot of things, if not all the things in a spectrum.

That spectrum being something like all 4 of these:
GEORGE REEVES+CHRISTOPHER REEVE+TOM WELLING+HENRY CAVILL

Instead of just sticking to one, which is the second name listed above, above anyone else. Even though alot of people became fans from those latter two versions, and regardless of some criticisms, there is nothing wrong with those two AT ALL!

Hancock is the Superman Movie people want, but could never accept.

it's like either he's too much of a goody goody or if he does something badass or hardcore he's too much of a wanton destruction porno.

Couldn't you do both? Balance the two?

Why am I asking this, its like it should've been figured out by others years ago :/

I thought birthright and secret origins did a great job at modernizing Superman's character so I don't know why it's so hard to tell a good superman story nowadays.

because neither of those stories are a modernization of Superman.

They also never clearly state why Clark becomes Superman, just like MoS. But Clark isn't portrayed as unhappy or lost as what to do with his life. So that's forgiven.

I actually just wrote to JA on Twitter a few days ago asking if he's interested in getting involved with Superman after Fallen Kingdom. I always drop McQuarrie a line or two at times.

For me, I'd be more than happy with McQuarrie or Bayona. Those are my two choices as a fan I'd be very happy with.

When it comes to origin stories; Birthright was, but it was kinda hard to follow and almost all over the place. Secret Origin wasn't, it was just rehashing the classic with a modern twist when Superman reveals himself.

Earth One and even American Alien did a great job being modern takes when the comics are concerned.

Birthright, Secret Origin, American Alien, and Earth One all state why Clark becomes Superman. You just missed it, or choose not to see it.

It isn't hard making good stories, its just creative freedoms being restricted by fans being way too critical.

So now Jared Leto's Joker is getting a solo film of his own, a character which has received more criticism and less fans than Cavill's version of Superman.

"facepalm"

WB needs to change the narrative by giving us some GOOD developing news. Not this Leto Joker solo movie or the casting for a Willy Wonka prequel crud...

If we're getting Leto's Joker, did they cancel Elseworlds Joker?

Superman is the red headed stepchild in a company that is one.

The Leto Joker thing is the first piece of news that I legitimately haven't understood on any level. Literally no one walked out of SS feeling exceptionally jazzed about Leto's portrayal (and that's to say nothing of the people that ****ing hated it) and the BTS talk about his behavior was just obnoxious. The other Joker thing at least made sense for if they wanted to rinse away Leto's mess, but this?

Not that any news really matters until there's actual film rolling, but still. :o

As we see with Bumblebee (hopefully), Superman is not beyond saving. You get the script right, then find a director who loves the property but not afraid to take chances.

Christina Hodson is already on the WB payroll with two DC projects (Batgirl and Gotham City Sirens), maybe she ought to write a Superman sequel too. She seems to have the magic touch, what with Paramount greenlighting Bumblebee fairly quickly after reading her script.

I'm not that worried. I found the Leto Joker solo film came out of left field as well. DC has been kinda quiet on upcoming films other than Aquaman. But if the news/rumors are to be true about the MOS sequel and potentially Solo Batman film those will be pretty big DCEU news.

I seriously think WB should take out a page from Bumblebee. They need to make it cheaper and more character-driven, remind people why they love Superman without deep-sixing what Snyder brought to the table. Let Henry Cavill smile and emote for a change.

It can be done.

Pretty interesting to see comments for the 'Bumbletree' trailer saying stuff like "I hate the Transformers movies but this looks pretty cool." Clever to go back to basics like that. Superman could do with some of that.

Also seems like Christina Hodson the screenwriter is doing a lot right these days.
