Having noticed that we may not be getting Iron Man 4 anytime soon and having seen "All Hail The King" where it's now established that the MCU does have its own Ra's Al Ghul-esque character thus leaving that plot open and seeing that Tony's story does continue on in Civil War plus also taking into account RDJ's contract leaves this question:

Can Mandarin appear in some way in the movie?

Go.

He can, and Marvel would.

But the situation with the Mandarin was a mess. Marvel copped out by not delivering in IM3, and they copped out again by retconing it so there really is a Mandarin.

Marvel should forget about him and move on.

Yeah but one does not simply leave the Mandarin alone. I mean they did this so we can still have the possibility of Iron Man vs. The Mandarin right?

Since we know that Hydra isn't probably going to go anywhere anytime soon, what if they get the Mandarin and his forces working with Hydra? I mean after Winter Soldier and to an extent Agents of Shield, Hydra is sort of crippled and could use the help?

We're not going to get the Mandarin. There was a reason they did the twist they did in Iron Man 3. If anything I don't see All Hail the King as setting up a sequel but simply throwing a bone to the people who complained about how the Mandarin wasn't the Fu Manchu rip-off they wanted.

Actually people wanted a complex Ra's Al Ghul-esque villain to truly challenge Tony Stark. We were robbed of that. They were kind enough to understand.

Whatever the Mandarin is, if Marvel wanted to give him, they would have done so in Iron Man 3.

All Hail the King was a gesture to placate an upset fanbase.

And to let us know he's out there. What if Civil War can lead to the Masters of Evil later on with the real Mandarin?

It won't happen. If they were gonna do it they would have done it. It's been discussed to death all the factors why they didn't do an accurate version of the Mandarin so I don't get why people are so convinced that Marvel is gonna change their minds. We had this same thing with people insisting he was going to be a major villain in Age of Ultron.

The one-shot may have been a bone to displeased fans, but it will eventualy have to lead somewhere, the Mandarin is officially a player in the MCU, therefore, he may have a role in certain events.

Killian challenged Tony Stark, the twist may have lead to a weaker villain, but it made the plot better overall.

oh no, another thread to cry over how the 'Mandarin twist' ruined all your childhoods and robbed you of something you never even had to begn with....
Seriously? Almost two years later? You're worse than Nolanites

Mandarin in Civil War would make no sense. Mandarin just wouldn't fit here and they've already got other villains lined up.

Also we don't know if there will be any real follow up to All Hail the King. For all we know it could just be a funny short meant to throw some of the upset fans a bone. There doesn't seem to be any plan given Marvel's slate of movies to include Mandarin and IM3 was a hit with both critics and the audience (including many fans). Doesn't look like they have burning need to revisit the character.

And for everyone saying we need to see the Mandarin because "We know he's out there now" the same could be said for the Leader.

Wasn't the Leader's arc wrapped up in a tie-in comic? If I recall, he was taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody by Black Widow.

Seriously, mandarin is like hawkeye. He doesn't seem to have any fans until something different happens to him and then suddenly he becomes the most important character of all time.

Seriously, how on earth did a villain like the mandarin get fans?

Aside from comics, this show might have helped:

To be fair, most seemed to just want the mandarin that was shown in the trailer, which was yet another one of those "the ultimate villain who will question the philosophy of evil and the hero, and also talks about anarky" that seems to be getting popular since Heath Ledger's Joker, we've already been getting stuff like that with Khan in STID and Silva in Skyfall, someone who for some reason is able to change the rules of the movie just prove the stuff they preach about has a point. The take the film made on the Mandarin was a real breath of fresh air.

That said, it would suck for this new Mandarin to not appear, now that he was revealed, Killian should have been the MCU's version of the Mandarin, but sicne they decided to retcon that, they should follow the idea they started introduce in the short.

Hawkeye is awesome. Always was. I grew up reading West Coast Avengers. Don't compare Clint to a racist caricature

Sorry. It's more I guess how suprised I was that he had so many fans that I only heard about when he died during avengers disassembled.

I don't think so. If and when Marvel ever shows the "real" Mandarin, it'll be in a future Iron Man movie. I don't really see how he'd fit anywhere else.

I don't think so. They just pulled the same ol' "villain is a corrupt businessman who has a personal problem with Tony" routine from the first two Iron Man movies. The only difference was that this time the villain didn't dress up in another suit of armor.

Iron Man vs the Mandarin would've been an epic battle. I was really hoping for that in IM3 with Iron Man taking on all of the Mandarin's rings and having to stretch his own tech to the limit to counter all those different weapons.

Maybe we could still get that one day, especially now in the age of Dr Strange. It might not look as unusual to have someone who appears almost like a magic user battling Shellhead.

Killian had no personal problem with Tony. He had absolutely no problem with Tony at all, until the 2nd act when Tony started a personal war with the Mandarin...

Actually Killian's problem with Tony was that he was stood up on NYE 1999. Tony wouldn't give Killian the time of day as he was too busy getting laid.

No, it wasn't. Watch the movie again. On the roof Aldrich felt a feeling of power. After his realization that Tony had ignored his proposition, Killian decided to work on his own in creating an expansive business for himself. That was all the roof top scene did. Empower the character. Killian later on had no problem with Stark until Tony decided to call the Mandarin out on live television

An expansive business that wanted to knock out Stark Industries.
