Theres still time for them to add another character! Let the lobbying begin.

With Rocket Raccoon already in there, I'd say no way they put in Cosmo.

Seems they want a smaller group this time hence no Quasar, Mantis, Bug, Adam Warlock, or Nova.

They could still add one more while having a small group. After all, Groot is effectively window dressing. He's a walking special effect that says nothing but "I am Groot." And Rocket Raccoon more than likely won't get as much screentime as the others. So they've only got three real team members with Star-Lord, Drax, and Gamora. It'd be nice if Adam Warlock at least were to be in the movie. I personally consider him to be essential to any stories with Thanos.

I don't think they are going to widen the ensemble that much for a movie like this already with so many alien characters and species. I imagine the main guy will be Peter Quill/Star-Lord as the window in for audiences.

Adding one or two people doesn't mean that Star-Lord still isn't the window in for the audiences.

Just saying for a first movie with so many weird obscure character they aren't going to add that many characters right off the bat. They are going to keep the main cast smaller.

Yeah, but the cast is pretty small as-is, particularly when one of them is a non-character who only utters the same sentence repeatedly. They have more than enough room to fit in an additional character.

I really think that Guardians of the Galaxy is, more or less, an experiment for Marvel Studios. They're trying something new to see if more obscure characters can stand on their own, away from The Avengers.

I think that has something to do with why we're seeing a smaller cast for GotG and, assuming that the film turns out good and performs well at the box office, I would expect to see characters like Nova, Quasar, and Adam Warlock added for any potential sequel.

That doesn't mean they will dude. They announced their cast list. Chances are they are sticking with that.

I'd love for Mantis to be in this (she ties into the Avengers as well) and for her to be dressed just like this:

She needs to wear that sexy almost-costume.

I wasnt suggesting they be part of the main group necessarily. Like the comics, they can sort of be on the sideline for most of the story, and then they end up helping the team somehow along the way. If audiences respond favorably, they can think about adding Mantis or Bug or Moondragon to the team officially down the road.

Another possibility is that the Guardians are a larger organization, of which the team in the movie is just one team of them. If so, you could have a whole bunch of cameos and easter eggs.

I'm not saying she has to be part of the main team either, but I would like her to appear. And since she might not join in the first movie, she can wear her skimpy outfit. Just think of it like these sexy alien chicks in Star Trek. Then later on, if she does join, she might get a proper team uniform. But if she wears her iconic sexy outfit, audiences might respond well to her and remember that there was this sexy ally in the film.

Moondragon too. Give her the classic oufit, and since she's bald, she'll definitely be memorable and a stand out.

No to Cosmo, no to Phyla, no to Bug. Yes to Mantis, in a sequel.

The first movie's cast is fine as is, maybe with Warlock as a supporting character

I would only add Adam Warlock as a wise team advisor/Nick Fury type.

Otherwise I'd keep the battle team limited to the 5 they currently have. Don't forget these are all brand new characters to 98% of the audience.

I think they could bump it from 5 to 6 characters without trouble. They should go with another female, either Phyla or Mantis.

Star-Lord
Rocket
Drax
Groot
Gamora

A great line-up to be sure.
but if i am lobbying for additional characters/secondary characters, I definitely want to see:

Adam Warlock join the team in the second or third act.
Mantis hang out at HQ (maybe caring for a Groot sapling who is ready for action by act 3)
Cosmo as a fan service (perhaps digital and pixelated on a computer screen *BARK BARK*)

I have no need to see Bug, Quasar, Jack Flag, Major Victory, Nova, Moondragon or Martyr. At least not until a sequel. Some of them definitely need to be in a sequel should there be a sequel.

The line-up Marvel's already shown is perfect for the first movie. They should add additional in the sequels, I'm hoping to see Nova.

DC's reaction to Marvel's rip-off of Green Lantern becoming a success would be priceless.

I personally would've had The GoTG fully formed with Warlock leading, and Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot as team members, with Mantis and Cosmo as supporting staff, all prior to Quill coming into the picture. That would be the situation I would drop him into.

Then I'd have Warlock die in Avengers 2 (A'la Avengers Annual #7) and come out of his cocoon as the Magus in GoTG 2 adding Wendell Vaughn as Quasar, Moon Dragon, and Bug.

How about Gemma Chan (Doctor Who, Sherlock) as Mantis?

I think characters like Mantis, Adam Warlock, Moondragon, Martyr, and Quasar would be a little too complex to introduce into the cast we've got so far. Cosmo would be easy enough, and I wouldn't be surprised to still see him show up ("psychic talking dogs! yay!" what's not to love?). Warlock *should* be part of the Thanos mythos, and *should* be in the GOTG movie, but it would be understandable if he's an "NPC" for the time being, and not part of the team til later movies.

Nova, Quasar and Warlock would be my suggestions. All three of them are essential cosmic characters and their powers are not only useful in a space epic but would be spectacular on film. The team is now loaded down with characters who are more or less brawlers with big guns. It could use some members with other powers, especially to go up against Thanos.

Yes, yes and hell yes.
