Hi, sorry if this thread is redunant, but fishing through all the other threads didnt resolve my question...

So...

Just wondering...

How many superheroes are in this film now? Iron Man, Nick Fury, and Black Widow are confirmed. What about Hawkeye? Is he confirmed? and I heard Thor would make his cameo debut in Iron Man 2. Also, War Machine is always a possibility of coming to life....So will IM2 have Iron Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, War Machine, and Thor? Geeze, thats jam-packed!

If this is all true... what do Iron Man fans think of IM2 being the jumping start for all these other superheroes? You know the studio is hoping they're all hits so Nick Fury and Black Widow and Hawkeye can get their own franchises. They always do. Whatever = cash = GOOD!

So what do you IM fans think?

I'm first and foremost a Batfreak. If Batman 3's script was going to introduce Green Arrow and Huntress... I would be a little annoyed, not thrilled. I just want Batman, dang-it.

So is Jon Favoreu doing the opposite of most superhero franchises (... instead of introducing too many VILLAINS in the sequel... he introduces too many HEROES...)....

thoughts?

Black Widow isn't a hero, Nick Fury will have a small role, Hawkeye/Thor are currently just rumors, as is Rhodey becoming War Machine.

There's nothing to worry about

I thought Black Window was Nick Fury's main "go-to" person. I thought she was a hero. Alrighty then.

Look any double agent she goes back and forth. Hawkeye was her partner and an Iron Man villain that stole Stark tech so it could end up going that route and Fury offering them asylum to join the Avenger Initiative or something.

Okay, so for the sake of argument...

Lets assume Iron Man, Nick Fury, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Window, and Thor (as a cameo), are ALL in this movie ....

... how would the fans feel about this?

Is it a fanboy's dream come true or is it too many heroes in one movie that is supposed to be only about IRON MAN (hence the title)?

Just curious because so many superhero franchises are ruined by overloading the story with too many villains... it would be interesting for a superhero movie to be overloaded with too many heroes...

Personally I'm way more of an Iron Man fan than Avengers so if both Black Widow and Hawkeye are in this, there screen time better be limited but used well.

I can only imagine the possible Thor cameo as well as Nick Fury being only one scene each.

I'm not super thrilled that there maybe to many other heros taking away from a Iron Man story, some are not confirmed yet, ie: Thor & Hawkeye.
I'm obviuosly a Iron Man fan first and a Avengers fan second, so I hope that so many characters don't overshadow Iron Man's movie.
As for which Blackwidow we will see, Favreau seems to be using a combination of both the "616" universe and the Ultimate Universe.
In the "616" universe Blackwidow was a villain who was reformed by Stark and for awhile played an important role in that universe. In the Ultimate universe she was a Shield agent who turned villain and was killed by Stark.
I guess if it means people come to see the film and maybe become fans of Ol' Shellhead then I can live with it.

I thought in the Ultimates Hawkeye killed BW in the hospital? Stark just clocked her with a wine bottle.

I really get the feeling that they will be following The Ultimates rather closesly. This is music to my ears! If that's the case then Black Widow will likely be
a hero at first, but then be revealed to be a villain!
I also hope they follow they use Ultimate Hawkeye because he was the ultimate badass!

there can be a TON of heroes as long they're cameos and don't interfere w/the main story or subplot... imo

I say they War Machine should have a full role (helping Tony in the final battlle & having atleast one battle to himself). Hawkeye & the Pyms are introduced.

Then either just before or after the credits, Fury shows Tony a clip of Thor on the streets fighting Hulk or an escaped Abomination or something & Fury says "We need to get this guy on the team" or something like that.

i like the way you think :)

If there are those cameos, it won't effect the plot. It would probably just be a nod at what's to come.

Firstly, I hope they don`t because I mean the whole russian-turns-out-to-be-evil idea is incredibly obvious and hardly original, they even had her character say it in the comic. I mean immediatly a female character turns up with a russian accent the audience don`t think "hmmm an ally from a reformed ex-soviet block nation" they think "Its a commie ruskie pinko!!! she`s gonna shoot ya!!!" 40 years of badly scripted cold war movies makes that kind of lingering impression. Russian characters in movies are nearly always baddies.
So on some level the audinece are going to assume she`s a bad guy from day one. As soon as the villain turns out to be a russain version of iron man with whips (as the case seems to be at the moment) they will definitly be singling her out as a traitor. How would it end up being a cunning plot twist then? People would have assumed it was going to go that way for half the movie. Its like having a shock twist in a movie of hitler`s clone turning out to be evil. Its hardly surprising.

Secondly Ultimate Hawkeye`s bad ass attitude cripples his own character. How you ask? Well if ult. hawkeye is a bad-ass killer who will take down baddies with his finger nails or arrows or bullets. Then a) isn`t that character bullseye and b) Why would such a character use a bow and arrow all the time? I mean a bow is hardly the most practical of weapons these days. Its cumbersome, has zero penetrating power, slow to reload, you can only carry a hundredth the amount of ammo you could for a handgun. It makes no sense for ult. hawkeye to use a bow. He obviously ahs no qualms about killing so the nonlethal aspect that might be a part of 616 hawkeye`s reason for using a bow is gone. Also if he is a bad-ass who doesn`t mind killing then why would he use superior hardware, even if he had a fetish for bows and arrows he would one day have to come to the conclusion that he could get better speed or range or stopping power or variation of ammunition from firearms. His character just doesn`t seem to make sense to me.

The 90's Iron Man cartoon also had a ton of heroes... :D

I'm growing tired of the tendency by fans ignoring 40 years of Marvel characters for the cliche'd badassery of the Ultimate U. Keep BW as a double agent ending up with the good guys.

This film is bordering on character overkill. Im more than a little worried that the story and idividual characters will suffer because of having to cover too much ground.

I hope they are willing to let the runtime go up to 2hr15-2hr30min if that's what it takes to get the story right. They gotta know it'll be a huge hit even with 1-2 less screenings per day.

To address the thread starter's post, it's a valid concern. I hope this movie stays as feeling like an Iron Man movie, and not a movie that just feels like it is setting up the Avengers movie. But until Favs proves me wrong, I trust in him that it will work out.

BW's a hero. Usually she does spy work. In the comics she branched out into regular super-heroing beyond that. They don't have to do that in the movies, though.

No matter what Ultimate fans say they will most likely stick with 616 Black Widow.

Why?

Because as I said to set her up as the double-crosser you would somehow have to make the audience not notice:

1) Her codename is black widow. A deadly animal and a term associated with a femme fetale or untrustworthy temptress.

2) That she and the main villain are both russians.

3) That she is already a double agent.

That would in my opinion be almost impossible to pull off. The audience would be already be suspicious of her for any of the above reasons and so a reveal of her as a traitor would fall flat as people would have suspected it fro the start.

Here's what Favreau has to say on the matter

Capone: There has been a lot of IRON MAN 2 news flying around in the last few days. What's true? What's not?

Jon Favreau: I can't confirm any casting stuff because there have been no announcements made, but let me say that the people that have deals that should all be finalized in our cast this week, I should hope…it's a different process being that Marvel is not a big studio and they don't really have the infrastructure to get things out there; it's not as streamlined as a studio, so I apologize to the fans for not being able to say things as quickly as possible. But they really want to have legal protections and not officially say things until everything is done. But, I'm very excited about the people that we have. There are no big surprises in casting coming that I can foresee [laughs]. It's going to be a really, really good group of people and a story that takes advantage of our cast but is in inundated and doesn't get too complex because of the number of new people that we're adding, which is always a tar pit for these superhero movies, you always have to make sure that you add the characters in a smart way.

Capone: Are you quietly relieved that Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to play Nick Fury for a billion movies or something like that?

JF: [laughs] I wasn't worried that Sam signing a nine-picture deal was going to hold up my movie, no. That would have been really bizarre if that had happened.

Is it me or does Favreau comes off as not really interested in having other heroes link up with the Iron Man franchise?

He seems pretty interested in that he has said in dozens of interviews that he would love to direct Avengers
