Bungies original FPS title, Marathon, is now up on the arcade, with pretty new graphics no less...thought you other Halo junkies might like to know, if you didnt already :o

I was actually impressed when I played this. Unfortunately, I wasn't even able to beat the first level so I have little reason to buy the whole game.

I'm also having problems with the first level...cant figure out where to go...gonna have to walkthrough it

I really loved the originals, but I'm kinda scared to play them now and spoil my good memories, I can't see how they'd hold up :(

It holds up just as well as Doom. They actually added some Y-axis functionality as well, so it's really quite cool actually.

Hah, I figured out where to go first try. Once you clear the level and end up retracking to where you started, you go to the computer at the beginning and access it, and the level ends after you read the message.

Mac users don't love games.

Oooooooooh don't go there!

But you just did.

Why are you yelling at yourself? WHY?!?!?!?!

I still can't believe you like playing as Elites in Halo 3.

I don't, but it doesn't bother me. I'm not that shallow that I'm going to get upset over something that is a minor aesthetic.

The Marathon series is pretty damn good. It came out when FPS's were typically nothing more than shoot everything that moves with a story that only existed in the manual or a brief description on the back, squeezed inbetween gameplay pictures. The lone exception to that was System Shock, but if it wasn't Doom 2, no one really noticed.

And it's free on PC. http://trilogyrelease.bungie.org/

System Shock was WAY ahead of it's time, but I actually think the sequel was a big improvement over the first. System Shock 1 felt extremely limited... like the game was in pain for working so hard.

Yeah, the story behind the series is amazing. I actually wish they'd make a new Marathon game after they get done with the Halo series. The multi-layered tales of AI betraying humanity in search of immortality was really ahead of it's time. Durandal trying to outlive the collapse of the universe and his not evil nor good position really makes the story less black or white and more gray.

Plus, the line that Durandal "utters", if you will, in Infinity has always hit me like a ton of bricks: "Escape will make me a God".

It's impossible for me to be an idiot :(
My brain is just too advanced for that :(
Damn you, brain! Please let me be normal so I can like this crappy stone age Halo!!! :cmad:

Halo is awesome. You know it to be true. It's one of the best paced, funnest straight-shooters of the FPS genre. Your feelings betray you, young padawan.

:cmad:

Don't even think of Halo. Just think "hey I can get 3 entire games free" and go from there.

It worked on me

It's an awesome game, too. And the story is great. Much better than Halo. And Halo's story really isn't that bad.

Fixed :D

FIXED AGAIN :cmad:

But seriously, I would actually prefer a Marathon sequel compared to Halo 3. Which is saying something considering I like the Halo franchise. The original Marathon games are awesome-sauce.
