The Amazing Spider-Man Marc Webb to return? - Part 1

I only hope Webb doesn't try to keep some of his indie (500) Days of Summer motives as he used with the Peter/Gwen scenes.

No...

Just no...

We don't need speeches of morality and justice.
We need awkward (at times) refreshing, normal conversations.

What im saying is, Webb has his perfect idea what teenagers sound/dress and act like.

So.
NO.

I loved the youthfulness in the film. The awkward romantic dialogue, Peter's teenage angst. Marc Webb hit a perfect key with the tone of this film. At least one that resonates with me. The real and amazing Spider-Man.

point goes to Marvelite

Webb understands. The best parts of TASM were the interaction and emotional scenes. Organic egg scene towards the end? I thought out loud, "thats just classic spider-man!" And the teenagers actually look and sound like teenagers. Nice touch that they made pete sound like hes actually from new york. Off topic but steve rogers aswell.

 agreed

I'm so happy Marc Webb is returning. He probably won't be back for the third film because of his contract with Fox, and it might end up being like the X-Men trilogy, but not going to worry about that right now.

Speaking of George Lucas and Star Wars, if you want to see ham-handed handling of romance, the absolute pinnacle of inauthentic cinematic young love, check out Attack of the Clones. *****e-chill inducing dialogue and absolutely zero chemistry between actors.

He made the prequel trilogy without any help or feedback and as a result it was awful compared to the original trilogy. Empire was directed by someone else, and co written by Gary Kurtz, and was in my opinion, one of the best movies of all time.

EDIT: Oh and I agree Marc Webb did a good job with the romantic angle.

If TASM2 does well, both commercially and critically, I think he'll be back for the 3rd film... I'd hope.

You're disagreeing with me.

What a shocker :funny:

Although, two things....

Webb does NOT have the perfect idea on how a teen dresses like when Gwen looks like Gwen Stacy from the comics...in the 60s-70s.

Also...I am not saying Webb should have Nolan-type of long speeches. I am saying he should do something differently between Peter and Gwen when they talk to eachother. To bring up long speeches of morality and justice is not understanding my point.

In Gwen's case it's more of respecting the original look which also fits the current way of dressing imo, and Peter is totally how teenagers dress around here

You can't have it both ways though. You can't drastically change Peter where he's more of an outcast that dresses like a modern teenager but then keep Gwen Stacy looking like she's stuck in a different era.

Well, I don't know. I don't really care what they wear, I wouldn't even care if Andrew wore the same clothes that Tobey did

For one, I rather enjoyed the awkward conversations between Peter and Gwen. Young love...that first step into the awkwardness of being a teenager and finding that initial spark is something that when it's totally new is exciting but also turns you into a bumbling idiot. It's a very awkward time to be a teen when all these things tumble down on you...major life changes and all. Confidence issues, body morph issues, social changes, etc. it's definitely one part of my life I wouldn't want to do again. I'd do some things differently of course.

Anyways, yeah, the awkwardness of the dialogue was captured very well by Webb. But if it's any consolation, now that Peter and Gwen are getting comfortable with one another, the dialogue will be less awkward and probably sound more grown up. You can see how their dialogue even changed during the course of ASM.

I don't get the complaint about Gwen dressing like she's from a different era. Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought her outfits looked very Asian influenced as I've seen tons of girls out here (Vancouver, BC) that dress identically to that.

Its really only one guy complaining about that.

Canada is different than New York.

One guy that seems to have the balls to mention it in such a hostile environment :funny:

I love the way Gwen dresses. I dress somewhat like Peter's character: skinny jeans, thrifty t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts. And I chase girls that dress like Gwen's: short skirts, sweaters and bows in their hair. Perfect match.

One thing I have to point out, is how dated Peters skinny jeans are going to make this movie in 10 years. As guilty as I was of it, the mid 2000s skater look is sure to go down as the disco style of our era hahaha

Well, duh.

Unless they're going to have skinny fit silver jumpsuits in the future.

:funny:

funny thing about fashion though is it usually comes back around. Look how many people wear 80's style pokydot dresses today, that wasnt in fashion a couple of years ago, same goes for leg warmers and flares coming back into fashion.

I'm very happy Marc's back, not just coz I think he can do an even better job now he's got the origin out of the way, but for continuity sake as well. Marc did a great job with Amazing, it's just a shame so much was cut which made the editing look a bit shabby. I look forward to what he brings to the table for the sequel.

its not really hostile at all. It has gotten a lot more chill from when it was just spider-man hype. But when you nit pick everyday you're bound to run into people who disagree with you. Some might take it over the edge some will have a reasonable debate with you. But ultimately, you make the bed you sleep in ;-).

Just out of curiosity... Anno, do you post in the Batman forum as much as here? LegendAssembles, do you post in the Avengers forum as much as here? I don't really understand why you both invest so much time and energy debating and negatively comparing ASM to your chosen franchises.

Well, I suppose it keeps the conversation going and the board alive.

And by the way, I'm not questioning your right to your criticisms at all, just wondering what compels you to continue the debate over a film you didn't care for.

I tend to post where ever I feel like it on these forums. To say I should only be in a particular area just because I prefer the films is a ridiculous notion. I apologize if you seem to become upset, or what you, when you read criticism, but...that's my right

this pretty much sums up The Amazing Spiderman Parents story
