July 11, 2007 - At their E3 2007 press conference, Nintendo announced Mario Kart for Wii. The game will launch Q1 2008 and will take advantage of the Wii's online capabilities, allowing online versus play.

The demonstration during the conference showed Mario Kart running on tracks from Mario Kart DS. After announcing that the game would release next year, Nintendo showed off a new Wii peripheral, the Wii Wheel. The Wii Wheel looks to us exactly like the wheel attachment made available by Ubisoft last year. The Wii Wheel will be packaged with Mario Kart Wii when it releases in 2008.

Just after Brawl comes out, Nintendo brings another multiplayer franchise that fans crave. We'll all be playing in a SHH! posters Grand Prix.

Indeed. I'm looking forward to this. Mario Kart has been a stable of long late night gaming binges between me and friends ever since the SNES.

i love Mario Kart and the fact that they've come up with a wheel for the wii-stick makes me wanna drop $250 for the wii.

i cant wait to play battle online... that.. is why this game will kick ass.

this game along with SSBBrawl is making me get a wii.

And this is gonna kick ass playing online!

The only thing that would make it perfect is if they gave you the option of allowing your Mii to be a driver in a kart.

haha yeah that would be pretty sweet.

i hope they have a bunch of people in this one. it should since double dash
didnt lack any characters.

I want it ....The addition of Miis would definetally make it awesomer......but I'll get it either way

This is going to be sweet! I liked the look and track design of Double Dash, but the fact that it was ALWAYS 2-person karts was pretty disappointing. Loving the look of that Mushroom Kingdom level :p

without a two person kart then the person still get 2 objects at once?

I imagine a player will get 3 or 4 items that they can scroll through.....or just the one....Either way, does it matter?

that would be SWEET! i think all games should have create-a-character...

Come Christmas I'd say i'll be very tempted to get a Wii, for both Smash Bros. Brawl and MarioKart.

Goooood news! :D

Mario Kart Wii to feature 16-person online multiplayer

This is going to be awesome. Fans of Mario Kart and people who still possess the capacity to enjoy things just received tentative confirmation that their futures are going to be so bright that they'll need sunglasses. The source? It isn't new-fangled space drugs or mind-porn this time around, but Mario Kart on the Wii, online, with a maximum of 16 players.

Battle Mode will be available online as well, although whether or not we'll be able to take part in massive 16-player brawls in Battle Mode remains to be confirmed.

The news was featured in a scan of the original Official Nintendo Magazine on the site Go Nintendo. What else did the article mention? Well, there will also be in-air stunts and updated versions of Mario Kart DS tracks.

It's good to see Nintendo really beginning to implement internet connectivity into their new titles. The company was really weak on the online arena for a long time, with both Microsoft and Sony pre-empting them with an online marketplace component. Perhaps this is a sign of the times however? Either way, more online is more better. Gamers can look forward to Mario Kart Wii around Spring 2008.
