You'd be amazed the materials they use in practical effects. It might be a little heavy... but nowhere near how heavy it looks.

You gotta appreciate the balls it takes to use that in a movie. I think it's awesome, but you gotta imagine that the studio might not have been terribly included to use that right off the bat... I mean, it sure ain't (in the conventional sense anyway).
