"We don't want to give too much away at this stage," Millar told CBR. "We've got a charity auction to name the super-villain going live later today, but otherwise you won't hear anything else about The Secret Service until the middle of November when 'CLiNT' #12 has a massive interview and preview of the series. Highlights of this will be revealed exclusively on CBR on the day of release, but the main promotion on the Millarworld 2012 books begins in January."

Of course, "The Secret Service" isn't the only book on tap from Millar's Millarworld brand of creator-owned comics. "Our 2012 line-up includes 'Kick-Ass 2' with John Romita, 'Supercrooks' with Leinil Yu, 'The Secret Service' with Dave Gibbons, 'Nemesis 2' with Steve McNiven and a massive brand new superhero epic by Frank Quitely," Millar reminded. "We'll be previewing all these books in a massive CBR piece in January as I go full-time in Millarworld. But I don't think there's a company out there with as high a concentration of A-list artists as our plans for next year. It's very exciting."

Vague details on the upcoming Secret Service! :)

“Something to do with the government and something to do with the military intelligence wing of the government. It’s not a spy story as such,. That would be WAY too straight for a couple of guys who made their names in superhero comics… It’s a hero book, and there’s a sidekick and there’s vast headquarters and a secret origin and all the stuff you’d expect to see in a superhero book. But we really, really play around with a lot of conventions here.

“No two scenes seem to be set in the same country and we’re working on a scale unlike something as up-close-and-personal as a crimefigheter with no super-powers. But I can see the link, because we’re balancing that sense of the real and the outrageous and there’s super-villains and so on. But what’s exciting about it is that it‘s something new.

“The Ultimates was about heroes responding to the new America and the new world after the attacks on September the 11th. The Secret Service is the ramifications of that, as America is struggling on the world stage, funding is being seriously undercut to balance the books and some people are trying their best to take advantage of the fragile global situation.

“The Secret Service started as two different projects. I had an idea that was mainly set in the US and [Matthew Vauughn] had an idea for a similar thing that was mainly set in the UK. I can’t give too much anyway without blowing the story, but we essentially fused both characters together and so the Batman and Robin or whatever you want to call these guys really are a genuine co-creation between me, Dave and Matthew. He had some sequences in mind and I had these crazy plot ideas I’d been mulling over for a year or two and we just hammered it out in the pub, really. It evolved naturally. So I’ve gone off and written the comic and he’ll write the screenplay for the movie, which might feed back into the comic too. l don’t know. It’s impossible for one of us to untangle one from the other and now Dave is the third man in this whole creation, bringing in a THIRD dimension to the story. We’re going to see all his drawings and designs and emblems and so on working their way back into the movie too.”

What is it about:
We've both got a couple of friends in special forces, both here and in the US, and even the real life training, without any artistic license, is really incredible set-piece stuff. If you ramp it up a little, it makes for some incredible scenes in a comic and in a movie. 'The Secret Service' is about a number of things, but one of the central thrusts is about a young, wayward hoodie kid from North London learning how to be James Bond. There's a great story about Terence Young, the director of 'Dr. No' and the guy who really established the tone and look of the movie Bond we all understand. He liked Connery, but felt he was a bit crumpled and rough around the edges and so took him under his wing and turned him into the gentleman he needed for the role. He took him to his tailor, his barber, casinos and all the best restaurants. He taught him how to order the best wine and how to engage in the kind of well-read chatter James Bond would be able to handle as an ex (well, expelled) Etonian. I guess it was like 'My Fair Lady' in a way, but mixing this together with counter-terrorism training really seemed fun to us and become the spine of this project."

So it's to my understanding about "SHIELD" with their "Batman and Robin" againts super villain terrorism while having this bad economy. Sounds pretty fun.

Some cool art to share:

I have to say I'm a little intrigued...

Of course. It's SHIELD's "Batman and Robin" againts supervillains with today's recession going on. I can just see all the James Bond influence Matthew Vaughn will have for this.

The world’s greatest secret agent is on the most exciting case of his career. But will the end of the world as we know it take a back seat to training his street-punk nephew to be the next James Bond? The young man’s preparation now begins in earnest, saving him from a life of desperation. Meanwhile, what’s the secret link between a series of kidnapped science fiction stars and the murder of an entire town in Middle America?

Looks interesting. Gibbons is the man...I'll probably check this out, if I'm not broke.

Sorry, I know this is a comic book messageboard and just about everything you read should be treated with a healthy amount of skepticism but... What?!
