Mark Neveldine directing Jonah Hex

if they are making the supernatural western stuff im definitely uninterested

Does supernatural western actually sound interesting? really?

Sounds like a stupid gimmick for what could be the best spaghetti western in years

Supernatural western is a virtually untapped sub genre. The problem would be doing a good job of it ! One of the "From Dusk Till Dawn" movies had a western setting and I remember a film set in the American Civil War which featured troops from both sides having to fight off zombies with hastily cast silver bullets, but there really hasn't been much done with the idea.

What's wrong with with Palmiotti and Gray are currently doing on Hex? I don't need that Supernatural western crap.

GHOST RIDER tried...

Barely

im not against the subgenre, just not for Hex for the exact reason Darth brought up. What they have been doing in his current ongoing for a long time is classic western style.

Espeially since the western genre is not only making a comeback (sorta) but doesnt need to be messing with supernatural stuff when all the genre needs revitalization anyway. Supernatural westerns would have one class of audience (which prolly includes me). Hex deserves a classic western feel like Leones stuff or like Costner's overlooked masterpiece that is Open Range.

My suggestion for a cast of Jonah Hex is Viggo Mortensen as Jonah. ...

A Jonah Hex movie could be so incredibly cool. The "supernatural" western setting is kind of odd, but I'll give it a chance. A regular western would have been cool.

Not sure who I'd want playing him...

I think a 'supernatural western' would be more interesting because it would be different than just another straight ahead western. There have been hundreds of those. It wouldn't be very original.

Jonah Hex is far from a straight ahead western anyway.

Because if they make a supernatural western it will just be Jonah Hex vs. vampires or some stupid thing instead of an emotional story involving amorality.

Well why can't it include all of that?

Because the supernatural stuff is a gimmick and comes with way too much trappings of horror movies. Make that stuff with something else, Hex is much better suited for a regular western.

The current Hex book is one of the best out their right now. Simple yet engaging.

You get it, I get it, why can't everyone else get it?

I was just saying it could be interesting. It doesn't matter to me because I'm gonna see it either way.

The director of Crank doing a supernatural western....

:up: is all I've got to say.

supernatural western? not interested.
Jonah Hex shouldnt include that crap

Well since Mark didn't say the word supernatural, i'll keep an open mind, he just said he has one foot in this world and one in another. I don't know what exactly that means but it didn't say anything supernatural in the script review. I am looking forward to this movie.

I like Hex much better gritty, ruthless and realistic. It doesn't need any fantasy crap messing things up.

I'm open to Jonah Hex being either a supernatural western or a realistic western - either approach could work depending on how skillful the script and direction are. But I didn't like Crank at all, so I'm nervous for how this film will turn out (if it gets made).

Alot of the balls to the wall action and such he used in Crank cant really crossover to westerns very well due to the lack of technology of the time, but the concept of what he tried to do might actually work with a western. Looks of shooting and violence and adrenaline stuff.

In a perfect world, a Hex movie would prolly look like an amalgam of The Propostion and Open Range
