Ruffalo is still a bit too much of a leading man for me. I like that Falk was an odd character actor who carried an entire series on his back. That's why I'd be more into someone like Turturro, John Hawkes or even Bescumi as Columbo over Ruffalo.

By your definition Columbo as a brand would need a someone like Ruffalo to put the load on his shoulders.

John Hawkes is rather good but I dont feel he fits the part neither does Buscemi. But both of those guys are good, Just not Columbo for me.

Im still with the thinking 1) Ruffalo 1a) Turturro

I meant that someone who was not a typical lead was the lead of his own series.

I gotcha. Not sure Ruffalo is a leading man. Maybe in smaller movies. Well...I do like Turturro and would be ok with him.

You are correct. Forgive me, my mind is not what is use to be. However it does give me the chance to revisit your choices and rip them up. :yay: So lets begin....

1)Tony Danza? Really? If this were late 70s or early 80s I could see this choice. But now? Come on. I dont think he ever was a good actor & certainly not for a dramatic choice.
2)John Leguizamo? Not feeling that choice at all. More of a comedic support actor.
3)John Turturro is an interesting choice. I always felt he is a vastly underrated actor. He has my blessing.
4) Paul Giamatti is another who has skill and could surprise.
5) Michael Imperioli. No. Just a personal opinion.
6) Giovanni ribisi I like but not as Columbo. He doesnt seem to fit the mold.

No worries. You think what you think.

Danza was great in Angels in the Outfield and Don Jon despite the fact they weren't major roles, He did a really good job in them, So yes really. I see a potential there that most probably don't but its there and if there was ever a role that he "should" play, its Columbo. He could totally pull it off.

I'm gonna assume you've never seen Leguizamo's dramatic work to just dismiss him for comedic support. Again, You think what you think but he's one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.

Imperioli is my least favorite choice on here but he can absolutely pull off Columbo and like Ruffalo, He looks the part.

Ribisi is another underrated character Actor. Given good direction, this guy can do anything.

Either way, I just feel all these actors are just better than Ruffalo, and better people to pull off this role specifically, overall. I just can't stand Mark and I honestly don't get the love for the guy at all. I don't view him as a talented actor at in anyway and he has virtually zero charisma.
Anybody who plays this role is gonna need some kinda charisma.

Would like to see this Columbo plot adapted on the big screen :

Negative Reaction
Brilliant photographer Paul Galesko plans to murder his domineering wife, Frances, and pin the crime on an ex-convict named Alvin Deschler. His plan is to make it look as if Alvin kidnapped his wife and killed her before picking up the ransom money.

Which one was that? I only remember them by the actors who played the villains.

Oh Dick Van Dyke. He hid her in a wood somewhere.

Not sure if you consider 'Murder on the Orient Express" a hit.
It seemed to do rather well.
According to Box Office Mojo :
Domestic: $102,826,543 29.1%
+ Foreign: $249,963,268 70.9%
= Worldwide: $352,789,811
I say this because it seems an old fashioned murder mystery could work and Columbo can do it in present day setting also .

I still think Hollywood is missing a cash cow or at least a profitable movie franchise with Columbo.
When you think about it, all it needs is a few things & none of them are special effects or tons of money for a big budget.
It really only needs 3 old school things :

1) An awesome script/plot
2) Good direction & someone to supervise the production
3) Acting

Got all excited when I saw this had been bumped. Thought maybe it had been announced!

Oh no, I'm sorry for getting your hopes up !
I was just trying to find how to look for old posts, I didn't want to start another thread on it.
I'm not even sure how I found it

No worries! Let's just keep our fingers crossed!

Maybe after Knives Out, audiences will have an appetite for murder mysteries again. There were some elements of Columbo in there.

Columbo is reprising at the public TV channel in my country right now, which is a nice nostalgia trip since I'm old enough to remember Columbo from the 70s as a little kid. Not long ago there was an episode with Johnny Cash himself, playing an artist (of course).

I thought that was a really great episode including Cash's performance. With a little googling around that also seemed to be one of the most appreciated episodes. Yeah, worthless knowledge I know. But since this thread got bumped without news anyways I went for it.

Likewise, I watched Columbo first time around. And I've been rewatching a few recently. That episode with Johnny Cash is one of my favourites!

Nice to hear! Yeah, that was a truly great episode, and Cash really showed his chops as a potential actor here.

I also remember that episode. It was titled 'Swan Song'.
And remember how Johnny managed to convey that 'annoyed' look every time Columbo asked him a question.
Priceless.
Made me also think Johnny could act fairly well.
