Did he find the switch from theatre to film difficult? “Well, put it this way, Hangmen is fun and relaxing after the films. Firstly, I had to become a director to protect the scripts. Seven Psychopaths wasn’t so bad, but In Bruges was relentless and exhausting. I had to deal with them [Focus Films, the production company]trying to change anything they could change. And Focus are supposed to be supportive, indie-filmmaker-friendly people. Scumbags. It was constant war, but they never won.”

Undaunted, he tells me he has written his next film, provisionally titled Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and starring Frances McDormand, which he’s hoping will start shooting early next year.
“It’s about a 50-year-old woman whose daughter is murdered and she goes to war with the police in her home town, because she thinks they are more interested in torturing black people than getting justice.”

Though it sounds uncannily topical given recent events in Missouri and beyond, it was, he says, written “about four years ago”.

:yay:

I was wondering when and if we'd ever see another film from McDonagh again. I'm really pleased to hear there is one coming.

Starts filming in April :D

‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’, the new film from Oscar-winning Irish writer/director Martin McDonagh, is set to start shooting in April in North Carolina with Film4 and Fox Searchlight set to finance the feature.

Oscar winning actress Frances McDormand (‘Fargo’) is attached to star in the story of a woman who takes on the local police after her daughter is murdered.

Great additions! I'm really looking forward to this. In Bruges is one of my favourite movies of all time, and I haven't seen a movie with better dialogue.

Abbie Cornish, Caleb Landry Jones Join Cast:

The premise sounds like a cracker. Furious that the local police have not caught her daughter’s killer, Mildred Hayes (McDormand) buys three billboards which she uses to goad the cops into action. Mildred reserves her greatest scorn for Sheriff Bill Willoughby (Harrelson). Willoughby’s hot-headed protégé, Officer Jason Dixon (Rockwell), identifies who he thinks is the killer and teams up with Mildred to wreak vigilante justice since he is certain that the guy killed someone.

Cornish will play Sheriff Willoughby’s wife Anne, while Landry Jones has been cast as Red, a low-rent advertising salesman who allows Mildred to rent the three controversial billboards. He soon finds himself embroiled in the ensuing controversy when Dixon attacks him.

In Bruges and Seven Psycopaths are amazing films. I can't wait to see what McDonagh does next. Love the cast.

So finishing up filming now, cool. Should be out next year. I wish McDonagh would do films more often than every 4-5 years, dude has serious talent.

But I'm pretty stoked that all 6 of the directors I'm most interested in right now have films out this year and/or next year (Black, Wright, M McDonagh, Garland, Waititi, Jones.)

i love this guys films seven psychopaths reminded me of a tarantino film

Red band trailer is online. Can't post it, but go watch that s***. McDormand's last lines in the trailer had me on the floor.

Looks great. A new film from Martin McDonagh would be enough to get me excited but, holy s**t, that cast is to die for.

The trailer blew my away. Will definitely a keep look out for this.

That's a f***ing damn good trailer.

This looks great. Is there a release date?

No release date yet, but if they're putting out a trailer now I'm guessing they're aiming at August/September.
