Marvel Anime: Coming to G4

I have but one question: why are all these shows going to be taking place in either Japan or somewhere in Asia. I know they're all anime but this is taking the genre a little to seriously. The only one that fits is the Wolverine one, which is going to be based off the famed min-series about his exploits in Japan against the Yakuza.

Typically Marvel superheroes are world travelers so this is nothing new. The stories are generally about the heroes facing cultural differences and challenges in Japan.

Iron Man for example has connection and stories involving Japan. In the series, Tony Stark and Stark Industries are doing some important business in Japan hence the story taking place there.

Also, Blade and the other heroes are world travelers, so why wouldn't they go to Japan? Blade I imagine will be dealing with a vampiric threat in Japan.

Iron Fist would be perfect for this style. And finally convince Marvel to get off their butts and do something animated with Iron Fist. It was cool seeing the Fist in SHS, but I need more!

A Madhouse animated Iron Fist show would be perfect.

Agreed. While I honestly believe a "HEROES FOR HIRE" series could work as a weekly live action TV show (you have an ethnically diverse cast, the format mixes the A-Team with superheroes, super-powers that would likely cost less per episode than "HEROES" did, etc.), the adventures of Danny Rand would work very well in an anime collaboration. His origins are in other-dimensional martial arts that go back centuries, and he has the sorts of flash moves that is typical in anime. In fact that could be the only drawback; for anime, he IS typical. But it could also be a crossover thing. But, definitely agree with you on this one.

I'm fine with all the anime shows at least treating all of their properties as Western heroes visiting Japan, and not completely re-imagining it. Then again, Warren Ellis is writing them; Madhouse are doing the animation, but are they also directing?

The X-Men anime will be top priority for me, although Blade and Wolverine should fit it nicely. I'm iffy about Iron Man, but I doubt it'll be any worse than ARMORED ADVENTURES (which I have even less interest in).

FYI, for those who are unaware, Warren Ellis writes the X-Men in ASTONISHING X-MEN and the line up he uses there consists of Cyclops, Beast, Emma Frost, Wolverine, Storm, and Armor. In the description for their anime, Armor is specifically mentioned. Agent Brand, Beast's half-alien girlfriend and head of the SWORD agency, pops up occasionally. I would be very surprised if Ellis had an X-Men line up that differed from this one. Even if Colossus'd be nice. :o

Not to bump this really old topic, but I was reading on this recently and caught something I haven't noticed before

In case you missed the announcement from today's Comic-Con Live coverage, we've got some big news about some programming coming to G4 in 2011. What kind of big news? How does Iron Man, X-Men, Wolverine, and Blade grab you? Because in 2011, we're bringing four Marvel anime series to our air, each a 12-episode arc, and those stars of the Marvel Universe are going to be heavily involved. That's 48 totally sweet Marvel episodes in all, and every one of them will feature prominent and delightfully obscure heroes from the Marvel stable.

So we're going to be seeing quite a few faces of the MU, I'd imagine. Which is really awesome! Who would you guys like to see pop up in these Marvel animes? :D

I'd love to see The Sentry, if that's even possible. Deadpool, Hulk, Iron Fist, and The Punisher maybe?

I saw the first three eps of Iron Man Anime series on Youtube, and I'm very impressed by its production thus far. As an anime fan, I think Iron Man is an ideal character for this medium, since Japanese have had a long love affair with robos and heroes in mecha suits (see: Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor), and anime can do those kinetic action scenes better than any Americanized cartoons ever could. I look forward to see the remaining 9 eps.

When does the Iron Man Anime come to the U.S. ?

Iron Man and Wolverine are both set for the US next year.

Marvel Anime was going to be my only legitimate reason to watch G4 but I guess I'll have to watch on the Internet because Directv had a dispute with G4 and is no longer carrying the channel. :csad:

Damn DirecTV. That was one of the 4 channels I have on my favorite channel lists.

Same here. Woke up a few days ago and noticed that. I'm pretty upset Direc TV couldn't come to an an agreement to keep it. Pretty much the only channel I watched. Guess I'll be watching on the internet as well or wait for the eventual Blu Ray/DVD.

Sux to be me because I'm in the same boat as the last 3 posts. I don't watch G4 like I used to but I was definitely looking forward to this.

Still, there's time to get the dispute settled. Anyone know the specifics as to what it was about?

yea i have directv and now g4 is gone, too bad. i was looking forward to the anime series.

Well when these shows have next to nothing ratings they can blame Direct TV. I will have to watch these the other way now

I'm so glad they updated Wolverine's design. I still remember all the complaining when he was skinny and sideburnless.

I was one of the complainers, but yeah. :oldrazz:

I am really liking the Iron Man one so far. I expected it to be pretty far out of canon and just be it's own thing but suprisingly it's seeming a bit more canonicly correct than the Iron Man: Armored Adventures is/was. I really liked when Yinsen showed up in the flashback episode.

looking forward to these.Hope we get it on G4 Canada.

I would've prefered the Marvel Anime series to air on a more "legitimate" channel rather than the home of endless Cops and Cheaters reruns!

Eh, I don't even own a TV. I just watch'em online.

Where is the best place to watch these online? I have DirecTV which means nooo G4 for me. Bastards
