2012
The Avengers

2013
Iron Man 3
Thor 2

2014
Captain America 2

This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe Timeline. It includes a breakdown of the MCU movies:

Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America - The First Avenger
The Incredible Hulk

The movies are broken down by DVD chapter, and sometimes even the DVD chapters are broken into subsequent sections to allow for passage of time or insertion of events from other movies, the comics, or video games. Chapter placements for movies yet to be released on DVD are placed tentatively.

Also, tentative placements for upcoming movies MCU movies are included:

The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Captain America 2

Also included are any MCU comic stories, specifically:

Captain America - The First Avenger: First Vengeance #1-4
Captain America & Thor - Avengers! #1 (made up of two short stories, “U-Base” and “Citadel of Spires”)
Captain America - The First Avenger [AAFES #11] (A free comic given away to US Soldiers through Military Exchanges, set within the MCU during Cap's days in WWII)
Iron Man/Incredible Hulk/Nick Fury #1 (made up of 3 short stories, “Fast Friends”. “The Fury Files”, “Spies Like Us”)
The Incredible Hulk - The Big Picture (a digital comic on CD-ROM available only with the Wal-Mart 3 Disc edition of The Incredible Hulk DVD)
Iron Man - I Am Iron Man #1-2 (a comic adaptation of the first Iron Man movie)
Iron Man - Security Measures (a comic following Nick Fury and SHIELD’s reconnaissance of Tony Stark during the events of the first Iron Man movie)
Iron Man 2 - Public Identity #1-3 (a comic set between Iron Man and Iron Man 2)
Iron Man 2 - Agents of SHIELD #1 (made up of 3 short stories, “Just Off the Farm”, “Who Made Who”, and “Proximity”)
Thor #1-4 (a four issue digital comic series released online through Burger King)

Also included are the video games based off the movies:

Iron Man 2 (Xbox 360/PS3)
Thor - God of Thunder (Xbox 360/PS3)
Captain America - Super Soldier (Xbox 360/PS3)

The video game adaptations of the first Iron Man game and The Incredible Hulk are not included because they re-arrange and alter the story of the movies to fit the events of the video game, thereby making them non-canonical. The Ipod/Iphone/Ipad version of Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America - Sentinel of Liberty, and Thor - Son of Asgard are also not included for the same reason.

Everything is color-coded based on the characters: Captain America entries are blue, Iron Man entries are red, Thor entries are cyan, The Incredible Hulk entries are green, and any crossover entries or Avengers related stories are in black.

DVD chapters are bolded, comics are italicized, and video games are under-lined.

Anything marked with a ** is placed tentatively until its official release (in cases of the movies, their release on DVD).

If TIH comes after Iron Man 2 in the timeline, how come Footage of Big Green's campus rampage was playing on screens at the end of the movie?

I really hope someone makes a fan edit combining/splicing every even in the timeline

Yup, Iron Man 2 takes place in the midle of Incredible Hulk, and i must say that wow, i never heard of TIH: The big picture and some of the other comics.

That would be quite the undertaking. It would take a lot of work/patience and would be a new experience watching it in that fashion, rather than just the movies one after the other.

The Hulk fight at the college campus occurs in The Incredible Hulk DVD chapters 10-11, which occur BEFORE the scene in Iron Man 2 (which takes place in Chapter 17 on the IM2 DVD).

If I had the editing software to do it, I totally would.

Yeah, there have been a fair amount of them. The third post (with explanations of the color coding and whats included) tells where each comic can be found. The Big Picture was a digital comic from the Wal-Mart 3 Disc edition of The Incredible Hulk.

The only MCU comics I haven't had the chance to read are issues 2-4 of the Thor Burger King Digital Comics. I managed to find a PDF of issue 1, but by the time I learned of these BK had already removed them from their website (they were only up for about a month and a half, from May to mid-June).

So, if someone has these Thor comics saved on their comp, please let me know.

I have registered purely to let you guys know that I am right now in the process of cutting together the Avengers movies. When complete I will post again on this same thread with instructions on how to view it.

I can't vouch for the quality of the final product as it's been a bit of a hurdle getting round the copy protection on the discs, but suffice to say the final results will be very watchable I (tests have been done and I'm satisfied with the results).

It is a massive undertaking therefore I can not give you an estimated date of completion (for instance, the final rendering of 10 hours worth of footage could take days!) but I'm hoping it will be around early April.

Has there ever been a statement hinting at canonicity for the video games? I'm dubious. That said, very good job.

If I may voice my opinion - it'd be illegal to distribute any fan-edit of the MCU films. So even if you do complete it, you'd be breaking the law and The Hype rules by giving it to other members.

And providing instructions to other people, whilst not illegal, seems to be too much of a hassle (for them), in my opinion. I mean, they'd have to go through the process of swapping the movies at certain intervals (which become more regular after Iron Man). You might as well make your own edit instead of following instructions.

What I'm basically trying to get at is that people are wasting their time thinking that they can make an edit for others. Unless you get clear permission from Marvel, and have evidence of it (not just saying that you have permission), that edit will remain on your computer for your own viewing only. Save yourselves the effort if you intend to distribute this sort of thing. Don't take this as pessimism or me ruining the fun - I'm just suggesting dodging the legal ramifications of illegal distribution.

And by the way - I'm rendering my cut of 'MCU Phase One', and it's taken four hours so far (at 72% completion). So I think 'days' is a bit of an overstatement. I'm using 720p/1080p videos and the total length of the whole project is roughly 9hrs and 25 minutes. :p

Where did I say I was going to "distribute" it? Give me credit. Hence the "instructions".

And read my post again. It will be a proper edit - no swapping discs every two minutes as you say.

The 'distribution' bit was directed at the general group of people who are in the process of editing too.

And if it's a proper edit which requires no swapping discs regularly (and you exaggerated what I said to 'two minutes'), then it wouldn't really be as accurate as a 'proper edit' would be. I don't see how you intend to offer instructions to people which would allow them to view all MCU movies in a chronologically accurate manner - without swapping discs or providing them with some sort of file of your rendered edit.

But please, I'd be happy to be disputed.
