Gazillion has unveiled a new Team-Ups feature for Marvel Heroes. You can now recruit a few of your favorite heroes to battle by your side, according to the game's latest website update. Current Team-Up possibilities include Spider-man, Falcon, Firestar, and Magik. More heroes will be added "in the weeks, months, and years ahead," Gazillion says.

Team-Up heroes have "their own unique set of skills and abilities," as well as a few other specifics that you can learn about by reading the FAQ.

Sunday Night, Hi There

Hi,
We're working hard on our new advancement system tonight and Sue and Betsy , but I wanted to drop by and answer the most popular questions I've seen in chat:

  • Team Up gear drops in common and uncommon rarities currently (white and green). Once you learn how to spot them, they are easy, but you need to notice a few drop so you can train your eyes to quickly see them. We are also requesting a soft VFX glow be added to these for the future along with points for the rarest versions.
  • Eventually blue Team Up gear will drop and other rarities as more affixes are added.
  • There is no diminishing returns on Unique drops. That was an interesting theory I heard this weekend in chat / forums.
  • We are working on 1-2 more options to help out people with bad RNG luck. We've done a few things already, but we would like to continuing pushing the envelope without making things dull and going to a 1 / hour type of system.
  • Cosmic Prestige is indeed 1/25th of regular experience, but Prestige 6 (Cosmic) was not specifically benefitting from one of the live tuning boosts that we left on many months ago. I believe that level of Prestige was added to the live tuning boost on Friday morning along with the patch to prevent confusion / frustration. (I saw some arguement about this, which are not necessary, both sides are technically "right").
  • Cosmic Iron Buddy looks incredible and will be in game next week.
  • The attribute review is complete internally and we'll be sharing the details tomorrow. It's a great improvement to the system and I'm pretty pumped to share it with everyone.
  • The item review is coming along nicely. It's not huge, but there are a good number of fixes and improvements to existing items that will benefit many under-represented options / builds and just more choice overall.
  • Black Widow's level 52 review will be on public test center in approximately 1 week. We did an iteration pass and made a few small changes based on feedback from the sneak preview I posted.
  • Our new alternative advancement system is really shaping up quite nicely and will be ready before the end of May (and much earlier for public testing).
  • I saw a few bugs discussed (Nightcrawler, Taskmaster and a few others). If the bug has been reported in the Hero & Power Reports section then it is 100% in our system and a team has been assigned to repro and fix. Every morning, those forums are scanned and every report is transcribed into our tracking software and assigned a priority and owner.
  • I posted the 3 categories for the new Item Design contest in the General Announcements section. We added a Grand Prize for best item overall. The entries so far have been amazing, which is going to make judging this tough and exciting. I have a strong feeling a lot of these are going to be added to the game in the coming weeks.
  • A saw someone ask about Bronx Zoo. That part of the story is going to be added after our last bit of Asgard content (the final boss, Surtur, in the new raid zone).
  • Our achievements system continues to track on schedule, with internal testing in 5 weeks and public testing in 9 weeks.
  • Invisible Woman is nearing the stage where her VFX get approved, iterated and eventually sent to test center. It should be 12-15 days and she'll be ready for testing.
  • Trading system back-end is complete, but front-end is schedule to finalize next month and then we'll test for whatever number of days are required to be confident in launch.
  • Bonus note: Since most of us have all seen Winter Soldier at least once, you can probably understand why we weren't quite given the thumbs up to make him a hero/team-up, yet...

The full scoop on Marvel Heroes' team-ups

Massively: Last week Marvel Heroes added a new feature to the game in the form of "team-ups." While we know the basics of this new system, we wanted to go into more detail. To help us with this, Gazillion Community Manager Ryan Collins sat down to answer a few questions. So Ryan, let's strip away the game-specific terminology: Are team-up heroes NPC companions? Pets? If you had to compare them to another game's features, what would it be to help us understand what they're like?

Ryan Collins: Team-ups would be most similar to companions or hirelings. Like Diablo II'shirelings, team-up heroes have their own gear (with four brand-new item types just for them) that allow you to customize your team-up's stats. Some team-up items even convey bonuses to your hero directly. Team-ups also have a power tree that allows you to customize the way they function, the powers they use, and the passive bonuses they have. The first choice you get to make with your team-up is how they behave, for which there are three "modes."Continue Reading

Interview with Doomsaw: Raids, PvP, Item Reviews.

Raid section

Will there be a heroic difficulty / Ulduar-style hard modes for raids in Marvel Heroes? If yes, would there be new encounter mechanics introduced in them?Yes, the first raid zone for Marvel Heroes will launch with two difficulty modes. The mechanics will be very similar, but the "Red" versions will have a slightly greater challenge to overcome compared to "Green" versions and be less forgiving. Loot drop rates will be appropriately increased for the harder versions. A "Cosmic" difficulty is also being considered but will likely not be required.
Do you expect raids to be competitive in Marvel Heroes similar to World of Warcraft and some other MMOs?
Yes, the models are fairly similar, although Marvel Heroes raids will require a shorter time investment overall.
Would there be some sort of long-term goals in the raids? Something players would to work towards for quite some time, like Legendary Quest Chain, Glory of the Muspelheim Raider achievement, etc.
Oh, the memories are flooding back. Yes indeed, we have very similar mechanics planned to interact with our upcoming achievement system. Mini-Surtur pet, anyone?
Are raids going to be tier-based? Example: Raids 3 and 4 are more difficult than Raids 1 and 2 and you probably need to farm Raids 1 and 2 a bit before you could go to Raid 3 and 4.
Yes, although slightly less forced than WOW does it.
Should players be concerned about the readability in raids? Sometimes it’s difficult to understand what is going on even in X-Defense where there are only 5 heroes on the screen.
We have designed every encounter to take this into consideration, as you'll see when raids launch. Things like splitting up targets slightly have a very positive impact on the issue. We also have more video options coming that will impact obscurement in the game and let you focus more easily.

PvP Section

What kind of plans do you have for itemization in PvP? Can we hope to see some PvP legendaries? The first step is a full pass on PVP rings which is finishing up this week. PVP is still in beta, so these rings will be tuned several times until they are exciting for PVPers but not best for PVE players who have no interest in PVP. Throughout the PVP Beta phase, we will allow players to refund their rings as many times as they wish.
Note that when we design PVP rings (and PVE items), we tend to give extra item budget for melee itemization, as one of the many things we do to balance the inherent challenge of melee vs ranged. You can see this in many places in the game, some more obvious than others.
Once our matchmaking balancing system is in, which is about 3 weeks away, we'll start adding a small chance for Odin Marks to drop for PVP wins and likely a decent PVP Legendary that isn't mandatory but would be helpful in PVP. We hadn't planned that until this interview question.
Are there any plans to arrange PvP tournaments in Marvel Heroes once it gets more balanced? Do you think the game has the potential to be e-Sport-ish?
Yes, there are plans to support PVP tournaments in a very similar way to other online PVP games, although probably not as fancy. We will have weekly tournaments with prizes and will be looking at tech for supergroup PVP challenges.
Will there be a spectator mode for PvP?
It's on the list of things we want to do. It's a large undertaking, so it won't happen in the next few months, but potentially next year.
Do you have any plans to make a more focused and smaller scaled PvP mode, like an arena or dueling?
We have plans for larger and smaller sized PVP modes. A larger map that is more of an epic playground, like a midtown Manhattan with objectives and 10 heroes on each side.
We also have a small dueling map on the to do list, with no significant rewards except fun.

Item Section

Have you thought about any improvements for the prestige system? Things like being able to choose the name color manually, choose not to reset Story Mode on prestige and see total prestige levels would be nice.Total prestige levels would be very easy to do and is a fine idea. Selecting your prestige color is also an idea we like, but haven't decided the most fair and appropriate method yet. Likely it will be a vendor that let's you buy a color of any prestige lower than our current one. It's not on the development list yet, but that's probably what we'll do.
Do you have any plans to give additional rewards for the prestige system? Some people decide to ignore the prestige system in favor of leveling another hero just because they won’t get any synergy bonus through prestige.
No sir, we want to keep it optional. We will give achievements for it, of course.
Will there be any Feat of Strength-style achievements for things like getting the world first level 60 with a certain hero, logging in on the anniversary of Marvel Heroes, buying the Ultimate Pack, etc?
Yes, but those feats have not been designed yet. I had many of those feats back in the day. What kind of features based on the achievements tech can we expect in future?
The feature set will be exactly as people expect, we aren't going to reinvent the wheel for no reason. We're using the industry standard proven system. The Marvel twist will be the flavorful achievements that are directly from Mavel comics lore and history. Luke Cage getting his money that he's owed from Dr. Doom and the love triangle between Emma, Jean and Scott, as examples.
Would there be some sort of rating / ladder / leaderboard system in Marvel Heroes? If yes, which game modes is it going to be used for?
There will be for PVP this year, for sure. We are also strongly considering it for achievements, prestige levels, X-defense and raids. Mainly just for bragging rights and pride. What’s up with Limbo and group challenges? Some people still remember your promises to get them revamped.
The Limbo revamp has slowly turned into an Endless Dungeon mode that is 40% complete. It's the most fun game mode I've seen and I can't wait for it to launch. Group Challenges are still on the drawing board, but will likely return will very similar mechanics as before including limited deaths and random bosses, but no difficulty escalation. They will be tough, but rewarding and will use the group finder technology.
Is there anything specific you would like to tease?
Out alternate advancement system has been in development for quite some time. It's mainly inspired by EverQuest, with some inspiration from Borderlands. D3 developers did their version, but ours will be about four, maybe five times as rewarding, deep and fun. It will be in testing in May. We also have expanded the idea of group quests to server wide missions, which are 100% cleaner to implement. They should roll out by end of May, at least for testing.
Wolverine + motorcycle (60% chance).

Marvel Heroes : Team Up with Favorite Heroes

Posted Apr 24, 2014 by Suzie Ford

Marvel Heroes players now have the opportunity to Team Up with their favorite super heroes. We caught up with Ryan Collins to chat about the Team Up system. Read on and let us know what you think.

MMORPG.com: What was the goal with the design of Team-Ups? How do Team-Ups work, exactly?
Ryan Collins: The idea of Team-Ups has its roots starting back in 1972 with the comic series, Marvel Team-Up! The series featured Spider-Man and one other hero (often a more obscure one) teaming up to defeat a common foe. We thought it would be awesome to bring this to Marvel Heroes, so that even solo players would be able to experience the thrill of playing alongside another hero.
Team-Up Heroes are companions who join your team and fight alongside you. They have their own gear that will allow you to customize their stats as well as a power tree. You can choose to use Team-Up Heroes in one of three different ways: a permanent companion, a short-burst attack summon, or a short-duration summon, who gives you bonuses while they are away (for players who don’t necessarily want to have a Team-Up out at all times).

MMORPG.com: Will any villains be available as Team-Ups?
Ryan Collins: Not at the moment. The first wave of Team-Ups includes Spider-Man, Falcon, Magik and Firestar, but don’t be surprised if you see villains in Team-Ups in the future!
MMORPG.com: What sort of characters are you looking to add as team-up characters? Will we continue to see major characters (like Spiderman) as team-ups? Or will this feature be primarily an outlet to get some of the lower profile characters in the game in some form? Both?
Ryan Collins: We’re looking at both and the great thing about Team-Up Heroes is that it allows us to expand the Marvel Heroes roster from fan favorites like Spider-Man to some of the more obscure that you might not have seen as a playable hero. Using Spider-Man as a Team-Up hero was both a way to pay homage to that original comic series and a way to assure fans that just because a hero is a Team-Up, it doesn’t mean they won’t be playable in the future.
MMORPG.com: How will players acquire team-ups? Will they only be available for purchase with Gs or can they be earned in game?
Ryan Collins: Great question! Team-Up Heroes are available for purchase in the Store, but they are also available through our in-game currency called Eternity Splinters, that are dropped in-game. In this way, it’s something that all players can enjoy, whether they play a lot or a little.

MMORPG.com: Can these characters be customized in any way? Will there be costumes available for them? Gear progression? Power tree customization?
Ryan Collins: Currently there are no costumes for Team-Ups yet, but you can customize their stats based on the gear you equip them with.
As for the power tree customization, it allows you to adjust how your Team-Up Heroes behave and how you want to utilize them. Some might want their Team-Up Hero out at all times to fight alongside them while others might want to use them as a high-burst damage summon. You can also have them away and receive a very powerful on-hit proc effect and bonus to item find.
MMORPG.com: How will you expand on the team-up functionality in the future? What are some of the improvements or additions you guys are looking at?
We’re always open to player feedback and it’s great that players love running around with their Team-Ups. The biggest thing we want to do right now is expand our Team-Up roster.
MMORPG.com: Are there any future team-up characters you can share with us at this time?
Ryan Collins: Personally, I would love to see She-Hulk as a possible Team-Up Hero, but I make no promises!

Nice news about She Hulk and Domino and Wasp team up !
Btw Zenith16, I have now 5 lvl 60 that I play :

Punisher
Luke Cage
Ghost Rider
Moon Knight
Black Panther
Squirrel Girl ( almost 60 ), I never thought I would buy ( splinter ) this ridiculous character but I did !

I gave up Hawkeye, Black Widow ( waiting for her review ) and Ms Marvel ( not my style after all ).
I also bought Deadpool ( splinter ) but I will wait his review to go forward with him.

Fully abandoned characters : Thing and Hulk, they feel so slow and boring.

hmm I was sure hawk eye had a rework . well for now my pc will be in the shope and tilI have some stuff fixed or upgraded I be out for a bit Nathan will be handling things it seems for marvel heroes til I come back and I think others will handle updates on their own with some of the other threads I keep up to date that they are interested in.

Hawkeye has been reviewed but I don't like him that much, he is not fun for me.
I used this week end bonuses to level-up my Black Widow and Squirrel Girl to 60.

I see . no problem then. Just play the characters that are fun for you then.

Introducing One-Shots!

May 16th, 2014
We've released a brand new type of content called One-Shot Stories. One-Shots are not entire chapters in the story, but are rather small snap-shots of the Marvel Heroes Universe that can take place within or outside the game's primary storyline.

What is a One-Shot Story ?

A One-Shot story is a new type of content for the Marvel Heroes game that allows us to tell stories in the Marvel Universe that can take place within and outside our game's main storyline and timeline. One-Shots are not entire chapters in the story, but are rather small snap-shots of the Marvel Heroes Universe. They allow for the inclusion of new super villains, new motion comics, and new types of enemies who otherwise may not be added to the main storyline for some time.
The concept comes from Marvel's "One-Shot" comics, which are typically isolated stories that may or not play a major role in the larger Marvel Universe.
Vibranium Mines

The first One-Shot for Marvel Heroes focuses on Man-Ape and his attempt to overthrow Black Panther as the king of Wakanda. Man-Ape plans to take over one of Wakanda's main Vibranium mines in order to use its resources to defeat the Wakandan people. Since the Vibranuim mines are heavily guarded, Man-Ape has called in help from other villains -- Wizard and Spencer Smythe, in addition to the warriors of the White Gorilla Tribe.
These other villains have agreed to work with Man-Ape in order to receive a cache of Vibranium; the Wizard for his advanced weaponry and Smythe for his new Spider Slayers.
How do I access One-Shots?

Starting at level 20, head over to any waypoint and select the "Terminals" tab.

Marvel Heroes News - Anniversary Update AMA with Jeff 'Doomsaw' Donais - THURSDAY

on May 19, 2014 | 14 comments in our forums

Join us Thursday, May 22 at 7PM EDT in our Marvel Heroes subforum for a live Q&A withGazillion's Jeff 'Doomsaw' Donais.
Please keep in mind that Thursday's Q&A is NOT a discussion thread. Simply submit your questions in the thread (or follow-up questions to any of Jeff's answers) and allow him a chance to answer.
Remember to be respectful and courteous with your questions. Disrespectful questions, comments, or outright trolling will be dealt with harshly by our moderation team.
While you can feel free to ask Doomsaw about anything Marvel Heroes, Gazillion will be celebrating the game's first anniversary in early June with a major game update, so we'd encourage you to ask any questions you have on all the new goodies!
A couple of those goodies include:

  • New Surtur Raid System Concludes Asgard Storyline
  • Omega Level Augmentation System
  • Massive Festivities for One Year Anniversary Celebration
