Marvel Now - Part 3

But you might enjoy them under the correct writer. I'm not saying you should read every book that comes out, or that just because a good writer is on a certain title you need to like it. I don't think CConn is saying that, either.

But to never experience a character because you "don't care about them" is, to a degree, foolhardy. You don't know whether you could care about them.

It's like never trying pizza because you don't like circles.
Did you read the last sentence of my post? That argument doesn't come from ignorance. It comes from knowing what I like.

edit: saw your second post. wanna be friends now? :hrt:
Pretty much.

I don't have any interest in Vibe either, but if Grant Morrison came along and knocked something out of the park, I'd try it, at least.

At the same time, I feel like we can't throw our money at every opportunity out there. I'll keep using Red Hulk as an example—I've read the Loeb stuff, and it was terrible. That made me not want to give the next writer who used him a chance (I forget who it was).

How many chances and how much money am I supposed to give? It is a pitfall into spending more and more money. I get where Fanged-Hunter is coming from.

Think you could say your time and stop posting here as well?

That would be very economical of you.

So, either start reading new titles or ****?

Alright then. Thanks for the input all. Carry on, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

^^Eh, you shouldn't let one snarky/asshatty comment from a stranger on the internet drive you off.

This. All of this. There are a bunch of characters I've been exposed to, greatly dislike/found boring, and have no desire to read about again. I feel pretty comfortable saying I "don't care about those characters" and even the most stellar creative team wouldn't change that. Like Spider-Woman :o

Yes. But Captain America is a little bit different than Red Hulk or Spider-Woman.

It's like saying you don't like Batman because you've only read DKSA or something.

That wasn't what I meant at all, but okay.

Wolverine & the X-Men (Does anyone know if this one is already rebooting with Marvel NOW or not?) It hasn't grabbed me either. The Wolverine/Cyclops role reversal is a little bleh for me.
Wolverine and the X-Men is not getting re-launched, and it's one of Marvel's best books mind you.

Wolverine is wrapping up. I'm assuming Wolverine MAX is the ongoing Marvel NOW replacement?
Frank Cho will be writing and doing art for the Savage Wolverine that will be released in January. Paul Cornell and Alan Davis will be doing Wolverine that will be released in March.

I've never been into solo Wolverine, but Cornell and Davis is inticing.

Wolverine has been in a bit of a golden era right now thanks to Aaron and Remender. Cornell will probably make it even greater.

Maybe you're not into solo Wolverine because you haven't given enough writers chances with him. :o

I tried reading Aaron's Wolverine, but really didn't like it. But I think that was more because I hate Renato Guedes than anything.

Cornell is usually a pretty safe bet. Everything I've read of his has been at least decent. Haven't gotten to his Captain Britain stuff, though, which I've heard is fantastic. That was Cornell, right?

Yes.

Honestly, Davis is what will probably make me actually buy the first couple of issues. I love Davis. He's like Neal Adams if Neal Adams didn't start sucking in the 90s.

I think Cornell, and Davis will do good with Wolverine, and I'd try the book just because of them. I was hoping to see Davis on a new ongoing, although I didn't think it'd be Wolverine lol, but that's sure to get me to try the book. He's a great inspiration to me as an artist, and I've always loved his work.

What does everyone think about Daniel Acuna taking over the art on Uncanny Avengers? I'm glad to see him finally on an ongoing as main artist. I knew Cassaday couldn't keep up a monthly.

I'm not a fan of Acuna. His figures always look super stiff and I think he leaves too much detail out sometimes. Especially with his faces.

No problem with that ScarecrowKing. I like his work, but I'm kind of surprised that Marvel didn't put Olivier Coipel on as the new main artist. Olivier would have been a better pick at least for this book. I hope Marvel has something lined up for him.

Marvel most likely didn't go with Coipel because he also has a tendency to be late and they probably want to have a consistent art style with their books as opposed to constantly alternating artists the way DC does.

You know why Marvel is having artist like Romita, Land, Bagley, Bachalo, Yu, Acuna, and whatnot on their major books? Because despite their criticisms, they put out timely products as opposed to fan favorites like Cassaday, Coipel, and Hitch.

I like Acuna. He's been on ongoings before: Flash, Eternals, one of the X books I think. He doesn't seem to stick around long, though.

So I'm not the only one feeling pretty lackluster towards Marvel NOW as a whole?
Not really. I dropped almost all of the NOW relaunched titles because they dusted off a lot of old characters I could give a crap about. :p Saved me money! LOL...

All New X-Men, I don't see the appeal lasting for an ongoing series. 2 Cyclops, 2 Icemen, 2 (3?) Beasts in the same time setting. Ehhh, dunno.
Yeah but the book so far is really good. Most people I know who took a chance on it (myself included) have been glad they did.

Wolverine is relaunching in Feb(?) so now there will be THREE solo books. I like the guy, but that's a bit much. I have been getting the MAX because I liked the last one but so far this one has been meh. I hate the savage land so I am skipping that one altogether. But I will pick up the relaunch solo just because it's the place where if anything interesting actually happens it will be there. Books like the MAX and Savage tend to have things go on that never impact Logan in the real world of X, just off adventures you won't likely miss having skipped out on.

Just my two cents as a Wolvy fan...

You've got a point about Coipel, great artist, but pretty slow too. I wonder if he was that slow when he worked on that Legion book for DC?

They do hit their deadlines, and I think sometimes readers forget how important that is. If a big time artist can't make the deadline, then he shouldn't be used. I think Bagley, Yu, and Acuna are real good. Romita is, but his art isn't always my cup of tea, same with Bachalo. Land I think is terrible because he traces, and is paid for it.

Yeah, I know he's been on ongoings before, but like you said, he just doesn't seem to stay on for long. Hopefully he'll stay on Uncanny Avengers for awhile though. I think he'll do a good job on it.

Hey guys, which Now! titles would you recommend? So far I've only got All-New X-Men, Uncanny Avengers, FF, Red She-Hulk and X-Men Legacy. I'm thinking of getting Indestructible Hulk, Thor: God of Thunder and, maybe, Journey Into Mystery. I've never really been that interested in those characters before, but I've heard they're really good.

I'd agree with those suggestions. Do you like the Avengers characters? Maybe try the Avengers Assemble book. Nova starts in February, and the new Guardians of the Galaxy starts in March if you like some Marvel cosmic. Anything particular you're looking for or certain Marvel characters/teams you like?

Ew no, ANXM is the epitome of mediocre.
