SEGA Teams with Marvel to Bring Iron Man to Next-Generation Gaming Systems
Business Wire - November 06, 2006 12:28
Marvel's First Self-Financed Film is Making the Leap to Next-Gen Gaming Platforms

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON, Nov 06, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- SEGA(R) of America Inc., SEGA(R) Europe Ltd. and Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:MVL) announced today that they have entered into a worldwide licensing agreement whereby SEGA has secured the exclusive rights to develop and distribute video game titles for all platforms based on Marvel's renowned Iron Man property. Under the multi-year agreement, SEGA has been granted the exclusive interactive rights to develop and distribute games based on both Marvel's Iron Man feature films and the classic comic book iterations of the character. The Iron Man agreement represents the first step in a strategic partnership between Marvel and SEGA to bring at least one additional Marvel Super Hero property to next-gen platforms.

The first Iron Man project produced under the license agreement will be based on Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated Iron Man feature film starring Academy Award(R) Nominees Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard, and directed by Jon Favreau. This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, will blast into theaters May 2, 2008.

"Marvel is recognized as one of the world's leaders in the entertainment industry and SEGA is excited to be publishing the next-gen interactive entertainment based on Iron Man, the first Marvel Studios project being brought to the widescreen," said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America, Inc. "The Iron Man history is filled with compelling and intriguing characters and stories and with the power of the next-gen systems, SEGA will be bringing these characters to life like never before."

David Maisel, Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive of Marvel Entertainment, added, "SEGA is an excellent partner to bring our Iron Man franchise to the next generation consoles. SEGA is a powerful force in the video game space and has always been on the cutting edge of the industry. We are very excited to be bringing Iron Man to theaters in 2008 and to team with a great partner to simultaneously introduce Iron Man to the video game world."

Note: No! This is not the game I was referring to in the closed thread below. Should know more on that one tomorrow. Why it was closed??? LOL Oh well.

It's to bad it's not by Activision and done in the way of X-Men Legends and Marvel UA. Maybe it will be done in the style of MK Shaolin Monks.

I wish they'd make more films like Splinter Cell damnit! I'm kind of curious how Sega got this. As far as I knew Iron Man was part of the contract with ATVI that they paid 50 million for? Oh wait no that was a contract extension for Spiderman & X-Men, and FF.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! WTF!?!?!?! This pretty much means no more Iron Man in future Marvel Ultimate Alliance games!!

man this is F'd up big time!! Sega has been making sh**** games, extremely hard games and has had games cancelled in the past.

I am not happy about this whatsoever :cmad:

Yeah, while this is good news. I don't like that this means Iron Man will be gone from future Marvel Universe projects outside of Sega, like the MUA games or the MMORPG.

I LOVE YOUR AVVY.

Spider Woman was my first comicbook crush ever :O

^ I'll bet there's an exclusion in the contract from large games like MMORPG's or big team games.

I hope its better than the last Iron Man game which sucked

It wouldnt work bc the XML/MUA engine is catered towards multiplayer. It just wouldnt work as well with one character

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! WTF!?!?!?! This pretty much means no more Iron Man in future Marvel Ultimate Alliance games!!
He was overpowered in XML2 and sucked in MUA so its no big loss for me. Its only bad bc he is a classic Avenger and should appear in any future Marvel-wide title. Oh well I guess War Machine will be making future appearances

Heh. Dude. I love Jessica. She's my beech. <3

And she's awesome in M:UA. <3

Yes I could...and I did if you look in the closed thread. It's right there...trust me. Otherwise there's like a 50% chance I can reveal it tomorrow. I'm kind of surprised it wasn't annouced today but maybe the studio doing it is still trying to get the contract so I'm being careful. If they already have the contract I'll mention it.

^ Maybe ATVI is gonna buy Sega. ;)

That would never happen, if anyone buys Sega, it'll probally be Microsoft or Nintendo.

Now we must decipher it!

Same here.
IM is easily my favorite character to use, too!

Nice avvy, btw.

Maybe it won't. Why is ATVI losing all these games? FF & now Iron Man??? I don't get it?

Now the Fantastic Four too. :cmad:

Okay? I get it their solo games have eighteen hundred chances at being better, but you can't have massive freaking Marvel games with everyone from the Marvel Universe without freaking god freaking freaking Iron Man and freaking Fantastic Four! God! :cmad:

Heh. Overboard. :)

Thanks Warhammer. :)

Maybe Carol, Ororo, Kurt will sit in reserves for a while and I'll just keep Jess for a while. <3

Yes that's letting you know there is a clue in the thread before that post but it's not in that post. LOL I talked to my source this AM and he said he's gonna confirm on what the deal is. You also have to realize that if the game was revealed now and the contract rights weren't secured yet...it could cause a problem so I have to be vague. PM me with questions on this though so the Iron Man thread doesn't become the other thread again. LOL I could explain it better there.

wait is this iron man thing going to be a movie or a game?
and were you saying the scret game is going to be a captain america game?
that would actually be really cool.

There's an Iron Man movie by Jon Favrea, the Invincible Iron Man animated DVD from LGF, and an Iron Man Cartoon...THIS thread is regarding the Iron Man Video game as it says in the first post. The secret game I'm hoping I can talk about later today.

Because asides from the games produced by Raven Software, Activision's games based on Marvel properties suck ass.
