Born Again Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again General Discussion Thread

Here's my only big caveat; I'm a big Punisher fan. Love him just as much as Daredevil and Spider-Man.

We see him here in the trailer with his 'I'm not The Punisher currently' beard.

Which worries me. Has he - yet again - stopped being The Punisher?

I really loved Jon as Frank Castle; but between Season 2/3 of Daredevil, and 2 seasons of The Punisher, it felt like I kept getting taken for the "Frank's currently working towards becoming The Punisher we all know" for 4 seasons. And he kept resetting after each one.

Then he finally embraced it at the end of Season 2 of his own show; literally where I want a Punisher show to begin.

And I'm worried he's yet again reset.

They've already shown Frank putting back the Punisher vest and having an action scene with Daredevil in Born Again in the official Disney+ promo from 2 months ago:

Look at 1:36.

Wait, really?

Admittedly, Season 1 is still my favorite, but still.
Yeah idk
I just recently rewatched the whole series
Season 1 was a banger start to finish
Season 2 started great and then petered out
Defenders was weak, it could've redeemed the end of season 2 but failed terribly

and then I got to season 3, which I'd only watched once, so didn't fully remember. I was like "Ok, everyone says this season is almost as good as season 1, let's get back to it" and then I could barely get through it. The "Matt has to work himself back to Daredevil shape" stuff was overly drawn out. Dex was possibly the least interesting psychopath ever put to film. And there was way too much focus on Karen, the catalyst of the plot of season 3 was basically Karen's terrible decision-making skills. It just did nothing for me. Outside of the final Fisk/DD/Bullseye fight, I'd take the first half of season 2 over s3 any day.

So this trailer, the Muse stuff and Mayor Fisk, looks way more interesting imo.
(Although I'll be very bummed if they kill Foggy)

Dam what a trailer hopefully Disney can stick the landing this is the only Marvel project I'm looking forward to at the moment
Vincent and Charlie are great together

That the lighting is crap I guess, which based on the trailer I'd have to agree.

Feels like an intentionally dreary, grey NY scene, in an intentionally inconspicuous, bleak lit dinner.
Neither characters trying to stand out (visually and thematically conveying neutral ground). lighting seems completely appropriate to the scene, mood and theme of the discussion;
-"So long as you don't stand out, you are not a problem to me"-.
Dressing and Lighting of the scene perfectly did the job intended.

FYI Square Dinner, in Tribeca, been there a few times, decades mostly stayed the same, while the neighborhood changes around it.

Everything feels too glossy for me, but I guess it's a matter of taste and perspective.

I also don't like how they changed the aspect ratio. A tv show should act like tv.

There's a recurrent point made that all MCU movies and shows look the same. That point is that there's no contrast, nothing is pure "black" and the dark tones are all grey-ish, for lack of a better word. There are exceptions of course (Guardians films have a distinct palette) but that comparison between shots of the Netflix show and the new one is a clear example of that.

I agree Season 3 is overrated and it's the worst overall season of the show. I hated Netflix Bullseye. I felt like it removed all the things that were fun and interesting about the character. They made him into a generic and uninteresting psychopath who was obsessed with stalking a woman who doesn't even know that he exists.

Winter Soldier looked and felt pretty distinct from other MCU films to me.

I honestly don't get what point this is trying to make.

One shot is from inside a jail cell and the other is next to a window in broad daylight.

It's a lame point. There were scenes just like this in the Netflix series. It's the same freaking diner Matt frequents in the show. He and Elektra met at that diner in Season 2 in broad daylight.

I don't get this at all. There were numerous scenes that looked like this in the first two seasons.

Matt doing parkour in broad daylight.

The lighting is much better and the cinematography feels dirtier, more raw as a whole. Disney+ shows all look so shiny, almost cartoony to me.

Trailer looks good and am looking forward to it. Why has Kingpin lost weight though? Even from Echo? It's a fat suit so it shouldn't be any problem for D'Onofrio since he doesn't have to gain the weight himself. He looks less imposing. I wonder if he'll wear a white suit at all in this series.

I would suspect it's because Vincent D'Onofrio is 65 and it's probably difficult for him to keep on that extra mass.

He's wearing a fat suit because the technology for it today is way better than it was in 2015. It's not so much that it's difficult for him to keep on the extra mass, just that he doesn't need to anymore. He looked larger in Hawkeye because he was still trying to lose the Daredevil weight but is basically back down to his "normal" weight, in the suit.

I'd rather he do what's healthiest for him especially at 65 years old. But someone asks why he looks not as big and it looks like I was correct. It doesn't look like the technology has improved that much because he still physically looks smaller.
