Discussion in 'MCU Limited Series on Disney+' started by terry78, Aug 23, 2019.
I'll watch it because it's the MCU.
Which is unfortunate. Not that I am convinced that they will ever allow Phyla to exist, but Kamala is her own character. She did not need to be changed or merged with another super hero.
While also missing a pretty big part of Kamala's story and journey. I get the changing of the part of her origin where she shape shifted into Carol, but changing the sentiment behind why that happened is a really big change. And while I have doubts of them tackling her self image problems, completely rewriting it to having her look up to someone more like her, rather than trying to be that person herself, is a big problem.
Agreed. It smells a smidge like the bad old days of CBMs where producers thought radical reinvention was the only way the general audience was going to accept these silly comic book characters.
But playing devil's advocate for a bit, 1) it might have been a challenge making her body morphing powers not look silly onscreen, 2) Her embiggening and de-embiggening abilities could seem redundant if they are teaming her up with Cassie Lang and 3) Ms. Khan appears to be getting a power up, which could make her a more productive member of The Marvels.
I'm still not sold on this one, though.
Which is why I clearly said IF they decide to change the fundamental nature of the character.
Having a teen Muslim girl idolize a Muslim woman superhero sends a much more positive and progressive message than having Kamala worship Carol Danvers in my opinion...
However, if you're a purist like I am and would rather see Kamala translated faithfully from the comics to screen, then yes such a character modification would be deeply problematic...
Which the two F4 movies were like 20 years ago and Flash who has a dollar budget.
I'm sorry, but if the reasoning for changing the powers was as silly as "Well, the powers don't look good in live action" then you might as well not even use the character.
Honestly, I find it amusing that people think the change was anything but "brand synergy". They want Ms Marvel to more closely resemble their billion dollar hero, Capt. Marvel.
Love seeing Brie backing her. Looking forward to the relationship between the Marvels
That and there’s a 80% chance Brie shows up in the finale
I hope Kamram will get his powers and won’t be another Kazi
It's not just that it's a major change. It's that the reasons for it reek of "corporate". Brand synergy and cutting TV costs.
That is just so wholesome...
She’s so precious. I hope she stays that way.
Would love that!
Yeah, love this aspect of the actress they’ve chosen.
Iman Vellani is quite charming and hopefully Kamala will be as charming as she is.
i'm a bit shocked at the volume of negative comments about this online. it's not like the mcu has put out a string of nonsense - all their content is quality.
she's a kid and i hope she has a good support system in place b/c there will be a steady stream of negative comments - many due to the fact that she's female and she's muslim.
she has alot of charisma and making her the "kid" of the mcu would be a great added dimension. she looks considerably younger than tom holland.
The Flash was a CW TV series.
You don't say...
I'm not especially shocked. Setting aside matters of actual bigotry, the comic geek community has a *really* mixed history handling stories that are intentionally aimed at kids and teens. Far, far too many comic fans are convinced that any story or adaptation intentionally aimed at younger audiences is some kind of attack on their own adultness. Insert CS Lewis quote here.
Slighty off topic but I guess it was just announced a few hours ago that Ob-Wan is moving to Friday's instead of Wednesdays. If they are going to have overlapping shows, I think it makes more sense to spread out the content throughout the week instead of having both drop on Wednesdays.
I thought the debut was gonna on Friday with 2 episodes but then further were gonna be Wednesday. Did I have that mixed up?
Rewatching the announcement, I guess they don't outright say it's moving to Fridays permanently, that was an assumption on my part. It would be odd to shift back to Wednesdays for the remaining episodes but I guess we'll see what happens
