Marvel Studios Update (Fortune/CNN) Re: David Maisel

Cool article, AD  Strange to think that Marvel only made $62 million from SM3 (if I read that right), but good to see that there's some faith in their in-house venture.

^ That # is off. You have to remember too that's only theatrical revenue. Marvel makes most of it's money off Spidey 3 toys and merchandise. That is in the hundreds of millions. With Iron Man & Hulk they'll make much more. :) And at the same time Spidey will continue.

I thought that sounded odd. Either way, I'm very happy that Marvel will start profitting more off their movies. I'm a lifelong Marvel fan and I'm always glad to see them do well.

Fantastic Four made a grip! No wonder Fox wanted to make a sequel!

Yeah FF made a load of money after DVD and TV rights. Merchandise not included in that total. FF generated almost a billion. Blade trilogy generated that much too.

wow! I'm so glad you are here AD! I'm so sick of people saying that Marvel is garbage for the movies they make........but the truth is, there movies are not as bad as fanboys are whining about and they make alot of money. I'm so sick of fanboys whining.......and even DC fanboys whining saying they are proud of WB for not pumping out movies like Marvel. I'm happy with what Marvel is doing. Go Avi!

^ Avi's just a producer at Avi Arad productions now. It's Maisel in charger w/Kevin Feige at the studios.

I know. I read everything you post. Just saying for all he's done in the past, he deserves a pat on the back instead of all the constant hatred he gets from four eyed fanboys who are never happy. He and Zach Snyder. :o

Re: Iron Man
....Uh... "combining" two villains into one to save money? oh, no.. please.. let Maisel not turn out to be a clown.. Please...

nah according to that same article....dude is about business, laughing is a myth to him. I hope someone steps in like Avi or Feigel. This dude sounds like a nightmare and will burying Marvel into the ground.

This is a business. Avi is the producer of Iron Man and the upcoming Hulk film. We all knew from day 1 that we would NOT see the Mandarin from the comics. Favreau said this at the comic-con when it was announced. I was there. I see no problem with this. Make the Mandarin like the Kaiser Sosa of the film. Who is...The Mandarin. More of a code-name with a hidden meaning so everyone will assume it's someone else. Unless Toub has a dual role which would be just as tricky.

I had that feeling too...

MARVEL FILMS are all great... hell, every RSR Booth Worker at my college seemed to be watching Fantastic Four almost all the time- and people would watch from outside the booth. So, yeah- that has to tell you something.

Some may not have liked it, but I have a feeling that those who liked it FAR outweigh those who didn't- and probably will show June 15th.

Some cool info on Ghost Rider also in it:

"
But the fallout from Arad's departure still hovers around the company. In February, Sony's "Ghost Rider," starring Nicolas Cage, was a surprise hit, grossing $224 million in worldwide ticket sales. (According to Lehman Brothers, Marvel's cut is only about $9 million.) It was a pet project of Harley-Davidson fan Arad. Arad recalls bitterly that Marvel tried to distance itself from the movie when it got bad pre-release buzz: "Nobody at my company, my ex-company, wanted to talk about this movie. It was a bastard child."

Maisel denies that and says he knew all along "Ghost Rider" would be a hit. The movie's success - despite a B-list hero and bad reviews - seems to bear out Maisel's belief in Marvel's strength as a brand. However, Marvel board member Sid Ganis says, "The board didn't expect much from 'Ghost Rider.'" Marvel executives can be a lot like their heroes - fighting one another as often as they fight the bad guys. "

So this is why Marvel is now opening up their own film company....

Hey AD, got a quick question. Who's considered Marvel's a and b list heroes? I know Spidey and Wolvie are considered a list. But what about Cap, BP, Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk?
