Marvel Television Marvel Studios' Wonder Man

Oh boy. They really need to dial back at this point especially after what happened to The Marvels.

"Marvel Spotlight" is still Marvel but only sounds less appealing.

I think in theory it's far more appealing at this point than main Marvel shows and movies. The problem is it seems that they're pushing to have projects fit in that label that weren't conceived to be as ones. It mostly seems like a gimmick to attract audience that's abandoning them. Otherwise bringing quality like that in some of the Netflix shows is more than welcome. It's needed.

I don't think it was ever stated the Spotlight had to be dark and edgy and TVMA. Just that they're not focused on the broader MCU. At least not that I remember reading.

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of streaming, recently told Marvel.com that Marvel Spotlight “gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of ‘Echo,’ focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity.
Maybe doesn't necessarily mean a TVMA rating but it still shows a different, more serious and layered approach to some of their characters, which I'd theoretically be down for. Or maybe I'm reading what I want to see from the MCU. I don't know.

Regardless of the content, its still Marvel, its still MCU. And its going to show up in the same tab in Disney+ with the mcu films.

One of the eXecutives said this year, they would produce fewer projects from Marvel and that they've lost focus, and yet they are still moving forward with this, despite The Marvels flopping this last weekend.

Grounded and character driven story doesn't have anything to do with the tone of it. You can have a light hearted tone and it be grounded. Grounded and character driven also has nothing to do with the violence level. All that means is we probably shouldn't expect a billion cameos from outside characters and no gods or aliens, and also probably smaller scale story

That's my take. Not essential for the broader MCU but hopefully a good little corner of Marvel to enjoy some characters come to life in entertaining shows. In theory, it was what a lot of the TV shows were doing before Marvel Studios took over.

Whenever I read something about Marvel lately it's always something negative. :csad:

Honestly I forgot this was happening.

This and Vision Quest are the next shows to be officially announced. But they really have plenty of upcoming live action shows for Disney+.

2024: Agatha
2025: Daredevil, Ironheart
2026: Wonder Man, Vision

Aside from Star Wars, I don't know any movie franchise that have this amount of tie-in tv shows as much as the MCU. Not even with Paramount+'s Star Trek shows. It feels like a bit overwhelming either if you're a long time viewer or someone about to jump on board in the MCU.

Since they only air one at a time, it's easier to think of it as a single "Marvel Television" show in anthology format. That keeps it from getting too overwhelming.

Not really. I see them as different shows with different set of characters that may get a second season if it does well. If we've had 7 movies from another franchise under 2years, it is going to be overwhelming to me as well, and movies are much easier to digest (finish) because its over in more or less 150 minutes.

While these MCU shows aren't very long in episode count/runtime, the shows are still much longer than a single Mcu movie. We've had 9 live-action shows since 2021, and 1 of it got a second season. That's too much content in a short period of time. Also a lot of the characters (She Hulk, Moon Knight) introduced in the shows aren't also appearing quickly for a next appearance, so I'm just finding them a bit redundant in the grand scheme of things. Then there's the two Special Presentations so those add up too. I skipped What If season 2 as a result of too much streaming content.

Sometimes less is more.

That's your choice. If you want to think of it differently in order to make it less overwhelming, you have my suggestion.

I can't pretend that its an anthology though. Even if I act its an anthology, thats still two seasons minimum per year, and I have other non Marvel shows to keep up to.

Also if the quality of these shows are top notch with riveting story then I might feel different about them, but as a collection of shows, they aren't just very good. They also directly affect the quality of the MCU movies, which for me, is the biggest red flag.

The MCU would be in a better state without these shows.

I'll agree with the quality (I like them better than you, but taste is subjective). They are very short seasons, though. If it was one show with 22 episodes (like they used to do), it would be far more overwhelming. Even the Agents of SHIELD days were worse.

It would be cool if they used the tinie tempah and Ellie Goulding song Wonderman as the open titles theme

Most shows these have 13 episodes maximum, unless its airing in broadcast networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and the CW.

10 shows from Wanda Vision to Agatha + 5 post 2024 shows, since 2021 is a lot, no matter how you argue it isn't. There is no other franchise that have this amount of shows in 4 years and also releasing movies in theaters aside from Mcu. Also regardless, ofthe episode count, the audience would still to familiarize with the show and its cast - thats not exactly easy when there are ten shows released in a rapid pace. And it is a bigger commitment that just watching 1 to 3 series that air a new season every year, with the same cast.

Try finding someone who haven't seen a mcu tv series, and tell them to watch all 10 shows, lets see what reaction would you get.

And yes, the shows are better than AOS but AOS wasn't a very good show to begin with.
