Marvel Universe online trailer!!!!

It will be like city of heroes/city of villains (gameplay, graphics etc will be different of course) and you'll get to choose between beeing a hero or a villain.

So if you become a hero you'll get to do missions for/with Spider-Man, Captain America etc....and if you become a villain you'll get to do missions for/with the villains like Dock Ock for example.

At least thats my guess. But one thing is for sure. You wont be able to play AS the heroes or the villains of the Marvel Universe.

it's only a teaser trailer to be fair...

i spent the whole time watching thinking that some of those scenes would make some decent avatars, is that normal...

That kinda sucks, but its also kinda good in a way. I mean it wouldnt be fun if you were swingin around the city as Spider-Man and saw 50 other Spider-Mans swing past you.

No you should be able to fight the Villains but not play as them and I do think it would be better if you are able to interact with the X-Men and all of them and if your up to their standards you can join the group like X-Men or New Avengers or start your own like in COH.

I actually like this idea.

Actually i was thinking about it more and what i think they should of done is say if u wanted to play as Spider-Man, then you could choose a room where he wasnt yet taken. Therefore you are the only person playing as Spider-Man while interacting with all the other Marvel characters who are controlled by other ppl. Now i dont know sh!+ about mmo's so i dont even know if that would work, but i think itd be cool.

No idea how this game would work. But I do know that they wouldn't make a Marvel game where you couldn't play as any of the Marvel characters.

Maybe it works as someone described above. You pick a character, then pick a "room" or game where the character isn't being used. Or, the game automatically loads up a room where the character isn't being used.

That makes sense to me.

While it would be cool to play as one of Marvels characters (hero or villain) its not really possible because everyone will want to be one and people would buy the game so they can be one.

Yeah they're going to be different servers ("rooms" as you said) but they'd have to create millions of servers and that would still not be enough.

I think its going to play out as I said in my first post. Its the same way Star Wars Galaxies (a game awesome and very successful at first but not so now. I dont wanna get into this) plays. You cant become Vader or Luke but you can interact with them and do missions for them. Plus you cant give your character the same name with a character from the Star Wars Universe.

About joining the X-Men like someone mentioned. That would be possible and cool but another thing I think they'll do is that they'll let you create your own superhero/supervillain team.

Dayum.......i want to play Marvel, not bloody DC!

sounds perfect to me...... imagine 100 spiderman clones:wow: ..lol that would suck ass!

no matter what........this game will be the BEST ever if its free roam and online like city of heroes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you and me both man.....you and me both:csad: :(

Damn... This is the only game that would make me consider the purchase of a Xbox 360. Damn you marvel!

Can't play as Marvel Characters? Says who? There's a few ways to do it without making a million servers or having a million spider-man clones, which you'll have ANYway. Also, it's an assumption, and simply hasn't been confirmed. People buy CoH to be marvel characters, they're sure as heck gonna buy MUA to be.

But I also think assuming it will be very similar to CoH is silly too, since it will almost assuredly be a different development team, and would have to at least have different lead designers. And the fact that the lead designers on CoH have stated clearly that there are a dozen things they would do differently if the had a chance to make a game from scratch. If this is giong to be just like CoH, then WoW is just like EQ.

As for villains... I think we should take it one step at a time. Playable villains just isn't the first step. Playable heroes is.

I hope it has all the good stuff we've seen in other MMOs so far, but I also hope that it truly takes advantage of the Marvel Universe. If it doesn't allow you to 'rent' marvel characters, at least for instanced missions, then I hope that you can become a student at Xavier's school, or a trainee Avenger, or join SHIELD. I'd also hope to 'team up' with Marvel heroes during instanced missions or certain storyline points. Why would Spider-Man 'give out' a mission without meeting you there to help out. That'll make you feel Marvelly, and it won't break the game at all. Marvel Team Up. Gotta be.

Imho, the best thing they could do is adapt something like the most recent MURPG pen and paper game, which did an excellent job of balancing character creation and combat effectiveness... though it could use a few tweaks. Spending points towards character creation and having anti-gimp boundaries would do a world of good for an MMO like MUA... assuming it is an MMO by the traditional definition.

Marvel characters joining you for missions? Possibly...Would be cool. But playing as one of them....I just dont see it....It just wouldnt work.
If you have any idea how it might work please share.

As for joining teams like X-Men and Shield I see them doing it but it would be even cooler imo if they allowed you, as I said in my previous post, to form your own team.

I would go for both, honestly. Your "faction affiliation" could be independent of your actual "player association." That's how I'd do it anyway. After all, just cuz you're at Xavier's school doesn't mean you're on any kind of 'team.' I think both possibilities are too cool to pass up either.

That said, I may have mentioned it elsewhere, but the basic way to play Marvel's Characters could be renting them with 'prestige' or what have you for instanced missions, perhaps ones that even reward your main character. (Marvel Character meets up with your character post-mission to pass along info or what have you). Of course, these instanced missions, of course, could get bigger and involve a number of 'rented' heroes, as well.

The keys to allowing players to use established heroes is an extensive instanced mission system and time limits on how long you can use said character, with popular characters (Spidey, Wolvie) being more expensive (And profitable) than lower levelled characters (Prowler, Maverick). All within the storyline framework of the game.

It's honestly not a must have, but it would be, among other things, a vast improvement on "CoH in the MU"

could the 360 handle this kind of massiveness?.....

the way you people (and myself) imagine it, is without any boundaries...lol...

Hmmm... without boundaries? Manhattan has very clearly defined boundaries, and, along with the rest of NYC can make for quite a heckuva central zone. I figure additional zones could include Westchester, Latveria, Wakanda, LA, Madripoor, and Genosha. I'd say, if possible, make those zones significantly larger and more involved, with subzones such as Shield Helicarrier (Safe areas to get cool stuff) or Morlock Tunnels (Dungeons) and you can be done. No bigger than, say... SWG, for lack of a better descriptor.

It'd have a bigger map than CoH, in square footage, and fuller of points of interest, and have a few systems that CoH doesn't, but I'd hardly say that it'd be 'without boundaries' all that Space and Cosmic stuff would be for an expansion, imho. But hey, what do I know...

I think the hardest part would be getting all those powers and balancing them without having classes. That's what would be hardest, to me.

There could also be special off world areas. But maybe that's getting a bit far ahead.

Having Wakanda, Genosha, Latveria, etc as playable areas is a very good idea. You can't have a massive multiplayer with just one city.
