Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - Part 4

The thing is you always got someone chiming in whenever a non-white or non-male character is added immediately calling it affirmative action, which sad to say is not an unpopular mindset among some of the fanbases.

I heard one comic writer lament that they couldn't have more than one black member in the Avengers or Justice League at a time because people would scream affirmative action if they did. As regrettable as that may be, what's even more absurd is that there's no room for anyone but White and Japanese people in a roster of 50 characters except for one black character. Poor Storm must feel a lot like a token right about now... :(

Honestly I didnt even notice that there was only one black character in this and I dont care. They should go for the character and what they can bring to the table first over race instead of feeling they must meet a certain quota. Black Panther and Brother Voodoo are probably the only exclusions I probably would have loved to have seen here but considering Dr. Strange is in, there was little to no chance of Brother Voodoo.

Poor Storm must feel a lot like a token right about now... :(
She's not a token. She's a pretty substantial character and not merely thrown in there bc of her race. She is one of the most significant woman in Marvel history and her many accomplishments over the decades earned her a slot

What could he offer though that Deadpool and Dante don't already do?
Thats how I feel about Vergil. He seems HIGHLY redundant with Dante in there. They gave Dante a sh-t load of moves which covers quite a large range. Im interesting to see on just how different they actuallymake Vergill from him

It really shouldn’t matter what races the characters are. I would rather have Capcom look at it like: what interesting characters can we use, that would make for different kinds of gameplay? As appose to: we need more black guys just for the sake of having them.

Yeah, I mean all three of these guys a combination of swordplay, gunplay, and barehanded combat in their fighting styles. It’s pretty feasible to come up with two movesets with it, but three is making it difficult. In fact the one unique thing Blade has going for him would be which would be utterly out of character to utilize for him(his vampirism) considering how much Blade hates vampires and hates himself, to a degree, for being even part vampire. Not to mention that currently not in anything, or at least not a headline act. Most of his popularity came from the movies, which aren’t being made any more.

Those are... pretty lame.
Yeah they could have at least removed the sash, recolored her legs and given her a mask so it actually looks like her X-factor costume somewhat. The AoA one looks nothing like its source material. I hope she gets an actual new costume via DLC

Blade has the entire vampire mythology to draw weapons and fighting techniques from (or vampire killing in his case), so I don't think he'd be found wanting for interesting moves to utilize. Yes, there'd be some similarities with Dante and Deadpool, but he's still unique enough that he'd be well worth including IMHO.

Also, something that EVERYONE from Capcom to the fans who are supporting everything they've done so far are forgetting in regards to whether or not fan favorites should be in MVC3 rather than "characters that make sense," is that MVC3 is nothing without one simple compound word: fanservice. The whole reason the game is Marvel vs. Capcom and not just some other fighting franchise is because it gives you the chance to make your favorite characters fight each other. When Capcom deliberately snubs fan favorites like Mega Man because they want someone with a more "unique" fighting style, or when Marvel pads up their entire half of the roster with product placement for their latest multimedia ventures, they are in a way betraying the very spirit of what made the MVC franchise enjoyable in the first place.

Imagine if Nintendo left Mario out of the next Smash Bros. game because "his fighting style is boring" and replaced him with Lanky Kong. Yeah, Lanky Kong would offer a more unique fighting style that could potentially balance out the roster selection better, but he has no-where near the popularity of Mario, and the longtime fans of the series would feel like the game isn't complete if they can't have Mario in there tearing stuff up. When you do a crossover game, half of the appeal is based on whether or not your favorite characters are in the game, and if you're expected to learn to love a bunch of obscure characters who all but a few players are unfamiliar with, then you might as well just take a whack at an entirely new fighting game since either way you won't be looking at many familiar faces.

I'm not saying that MVC3 sucks because they didn't included Mega Man or Gambit, but I can't say that the drift away from using fan-favorites hasn't lessened the appeal to a notable degree, and I am hardly the only MVC fan who feels this way-- especially since Marvel and Capcom have already had two times already to include the characters who players have been clamoring for the most.

Watching that video, really not hating on Phoenix Wright, but I can't believe he got in over any of the different Mega Men. Their first whole effin' excuse for not including Mega Man in the first place, was how he'd barely have any moves. Well, what ****ing Moves does Phoenix Wright have?

According to Seth Killain

is all Phoenix Wright" in how he's implemented in the game. He says he's completely faithful to the games and heaps of fun to play as, and can either be very good or very bad.
So that settles that.

What this means, I have no idea. I'm still remaining neutral on him.

I don't care how he is gong to end up. I'm talking about the fact that they said Mega Man has too little variety, even though he's got tons of games with several different incarnations who all have different weapons, power ups, armors, etc. Yet Phoenix Wright, who's a lawyer and is basically known for yelling "Objection!", gets in without a problem.

You cant take what they say to heart. Its all BS to appease fans. They might be better off giving vague "no comments" instead of trying to give excuses

y'know....since they apparently don't want Cyclops in......how about his brother Havok?

he's never been in a Capcom fighting game before.........

having no Mega Man to represent Capcom is like having no Ryu to represent Street Fighter or Wolverine for the X-men.

he's your icon/mascot, for crying out loud

Man, Id so love that bc he's an X-man and they specifically went out of there way to not put anymore in

So they can give a guy a ton of different arrows but they refuse to put some of that effort into the mega buster.

I guess it's just not the Blue Bomber's year.
