Well DC's big three is Superman, Batman, and WOnder WOman.

I guess Marvel used to have the same thing and Apparenty Namor is teh only one left. See, http://www.craveonline.com/comics/articles/04648082/the_submariner_1.html

My question is, who are the other two?

The second part of my question would be who is Marvel's current Big Three?

In terms of sheer power (mental or physical), I would say:

1) Sentry
2) Hulk
3) Xavier

In terms of popularity and as a "foundation" for the universe, I would say:

1) Wolverine
2) Spider-Man
3) Captain America

Good question. I only know their number one, Spider-Man

In terms of in-universe status and how others look at them, Marvel's big three is commonly accepted to be Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor.

i guess i was speaking "out of universe status" but what about the "original" big three that the article referred to.

the one that includes Namor?

It should be Cap, Iron Man and Thor, yeah.

But ranking by popularity among the general public, I'd say Spider-Man, Wolverine and the Hulk.

Here's a question kinda related to this that I've been pondering. In the DCU, Wonder Woman is one of the Big 3 and is the probably the definitive superheroine in that universe...one of the pillars of the DCU. So what would be her Marvel counterpart? Or does she even have one? Who would be considered THE superheroine of the Marvel U?

Ms. Marvel

In the 90's, Storm was considered Marvel's equivalent. These days, Marvel's really putting the spotlight on Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel

Yeah, I can see that. Especially lately. Although I've always been partial to Jean Grey...(who I guess is disqualified, what with being dead & all.) But I could see Storm there as well.

I've always kinda thought of Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Hulk to be Marvel's three big icons.

what abou tthe original question though?

what big three includes Namor?

You're a persistent little guy. That "Big Three" probably refers to Cap, Namor and the original Human Torch.

well that was my main question.

thanks for answering!

i wonder how long till Marvel brings Toro back as its new Insanely Powerful Mystery villian?

In-universe big three:Cap, Ironman, and Thor.
Most popular in reality:Spider-man, Wolverine, and Hulk. Maybe Human Torch instead of the Hulk though, but I'm not sure.

They definately are, but I still say Storm.

For Sheer recognizability.... Spider-man, Hulk, Captain America.

On top of Ms. Marvel and Storm, I've been reading some things from Marvel writers and editorial that suggest that Marve's gearing to make She-Hulk the "Wonder Woman" of the Marvel Universe.

A lot of interpertation here. Way I figure DC's three are that way because they contain the virtues that DC values most:

Supes - More power=better character, morally perfect

WW - Female version of Supes

Bats - Detective skills, martial arts, normal human in metahuman world

Marvel can't really relate because they have a different take on metas. Mainly that instead of being accepted and praised they viewed that most would be feared and and reviled. Instead of detective skills and crime solving they took a more human approach and showed flawed heroes with different reasonings and convictions.

That said here's my equivelent of DC's big three:

Bats = Bugs The most popular of the universe's hero's. Both are genius'. Both are the product of tragedy. Bat's has conviction and resolve (and lots of money) while bugs has superpowers (still can be downed by a bullet though) and a humanistic moral center that guides him.

Supes = Hulk This one is odd I know. I guess the reasonings for this is that both are the personification of vast superpowers on beings. While DC chose an alien that naturally had these powers from birth, Marvel went the way of showing what dormant tendencies lie within anyone. Supes is the personification of all that could be in humanity. Hulk is the personification of what actually exists inside humanity.

WW = She Hulk Both are created to show that a woman can be as effective a superhero as a man. WW takes a very similiar feel to Supes in that she is the ideal while Shulkie is what currently exists inside women. Not a mindless brute like the hulk but a being more free and willing to do what she wants (hence the sex)

Bugs is a rabbit....
