So Marvel has been making single issue comics of some very classic books: Jungle Book, Man in the Iron Mask, Treasure Island, and Last of the Mohikans, and I think there are others coming soon.

So what books would you like to see get made into a single (or multiple) issue comic?
And who would you like to see work on it? What artist's style would be perfect for that story, for example.

To get this started here is mine:

Book: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
artist: Jim Lee
Why: While reading it I always imagined McMurphy looking like Lee's Wolverine but with red hair.
And I would like to see the narration of Chief Bromden in those comic narration thought boxes.

What books, favorites or not, would you like to see get made into a Marvel comic?

I'd like to see someone do "Bridge of Birds" which isn't a classic, but it's damn funny. Maybe get Kaja Foglio do the art, since she illustrated the addition that collected the book and it's two sequels.

The Marquis de Sade's Justine and his follow up Juliette, each in it's own six issue miniseries, drawn by Frank Cho.

King Solomon's Mine. Un-abridged version. It was the book that got me into reading when I was a kid.

Stranger in a Strange Land, drawn by Steve McNiven.

the last legionary by aa hiller

Does it have to be a single issue? I think maybe I'd like to see... shoot, I don't know! I read so much but I can't fuse the idea of a book and a comic in my head for some reason!

How about Murakami's "After Dark" short enough that an oversized issue would work. Same with "The Stars My Destination" by Bester. Both of those would be really good as big single issues I think.

How about Mary Shelly's Frankenstein? I could see, say, Dave McKean or Ashley Wood doing some great art for it.

Various Roald Dahl works

The list could really be endless.

Hasn't Marvel done some Poe stuff recently?

I too would love to see these ones get made, ones already mentioned:
Moby Dick
White Fang
Mary Shelly's Frankenstien
Dracula
Lord of the Flies
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Those would all be great. They shouldn't have to be a single issue comic, thats just what Marvel seems to be doing right now with ones like Jungle Book, Man in the Iron Mask, Three Musketeers, and so on.

Here is another I would love to see, and this one can't be done in just one issue:
The Epic of Gilgamesh
I would love to see it one in a style like Andy Kubert's 1602, or Alex Ross, or (even though he is not alive anymore) it would have been cool to see it done in Jack Kirby's style.

There's a book by a Russian author, Bulgakov, called Heart of a Dog which would make a great comic.

I have a soft spot for Steinbeck, so I would say Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, and To a God Unknown.

The Stand by Stephen King (maybe not a classic, in the traditional sense, but a great read)

Which leads me into an idea I've had for a while: What if Marvel had a title called Stephen King Presents..... that could feature adaptations of his short stories, original horror stories, or maybe even allow novelists the opportunity to dabble in comics. I'm willing to bet Michael Chabon would give it a shot. the dude loves comics. And King opens so many doors, I betcha he could get a wide variety of authors to contribute. Amy Tan, Clive Cussler (and Barker), Michael Crichton, John Grisham, JK Rowling, Tom Clancy, Terry Brooks. Some of them write books that just beg to be made into comics. Just a thought.
